Chapter 3: Ruined

1236 Words
Lily stood outside the Ford enterprise building anxiously waiting for Alex to come out. She held the medical reports in her hands as she stood there with a pale face. Lily had tried to enter, but the guard wouldn't let her in without an appointment. She decided to wait patiently for him to go outside. When the glass door flung open, she saw an elegant-looking lady walking out of the building. Lily already had a guess of who this person was. Eleanor marched elegantly down the stairs as she noticed the anxious expression on her face. Approaching her carefully, she said. “How may I help you Miss..” “Evans, Lily Evans.” “How can I help you miss Evans”, Eleanor asked with a gentle smile, but that was all a facade. “I'm here to see Mr Alexander pls.” “Well, as you can see, my fiancé is very occupied, but you can talk to me instead” Eleanor stared at the report in her hand. “I'm sorry ma'am, but it's something personal.” “You don't have to worry,” Eleanor cut her off. We can speak in private. Why don't we go to the nearby café? I can see your stressed.” Lily hesitated but she decided to follow her. They entered the café and both ladies sat. “So what is the urgent thing you had to tell my fiancé?” Eleanor asked. Lily could hear her tone, and it was not as soft as before. She hesitated for a moment before saying “I'm pregnant, and Mr Alexander is the father.” Eleanor scanned the document before saying “And what is Alex supposed to do?” “I don't know. "I just thought it was his right to know ma'am,” Lily said softly. Listen carefully, Miss Evans. "My fiancé is a man of great responsibility and influence, so he doesn't have time for… distractions.” “I'm not expecting anything from him ma'am. I just thought he had to know.” “And you think he is going to accept an illegitimate child?” Eleanor interjected in an icy tone. Don't be pathetic, Miss Lily. Alex is a man, so, of course, he has to release himself sometimes, but that doesn't give you the right to expect that he will take responsibility. For all we know, the baby may not even be his as you claim.” “But the report says so” Lily countered. “And this,” Eleanor said while tearing up the report, “is just a mere piece of paper. "The truth can be twisted into anything you want, so it is best for you to get rid of this...accident.” Lily was shocked “You can't be serious ma’am.” “Listen, Miss Evans, there is no place for an illegitimate child in my family. Do you know how scandalous this would sound? I can't have you ruin Alex's reputation, so it'll be best for all if you disappear with this baby.” Lily's eyes became wet. “ I don't want any trouble ma'am.” “ So you had better leave and let's all pretend that none of this ever happened,” Eleanor said in a cold voice. “ Don't you ever come near my family, or it won't be all talk anymore.” Eleanor left, leaving Lily speechless at the Café. What was she supposed to do now? Her life was ruined. Alex had no idea of what had transpired outside the building. He had hired an investigator to search for that woman but all he got was her name. “ Lily Evans” he murmured to himself. He couldn't wait to find her, and he was already getting restless. He called the club again to see if she had returned, but she had not. Lily arrived at the doorstep of her house. She didn't have anywhere else to go. She stepped inside to see her aunt seated on the chair. Nothing had changed, but it didn't feel like home anymore. Margaret noticed her niece approaching with a pale figure. “ So you decided to come back”. She said nonchalantly. “I'm sorry aunt, I need to tell you something,” Lily said worriedly. “Before you say anything, I want to let you know that I pleaded with Daniel's family, and he still wants to marry you. "You should count yourself lucky”, Margaret got interrupted by Lily. “ There is no easy way to say this aunt. I'm pregnant.” A dry laugh echoed in the house. “ You must be joking, right?” “I'm sorry aunt, I didn't mean for it to happen”, Lily apologized. “ How could you make such a mistake, Lily?” Her aunt said furiously. “ Here I am doing my best to get you engaged into a respectable family, and you've just ruined all my efforts.” “ I'm sorry aunt, but I don't want to get married anyway,” Lily reasoned. “Silly girl, listen to me all you have to do is get rid of this pregnancy before Daniel finds out. You still have a chance with the proposal.” Lily was shocked: “How could you say that aunt this is the baby we are talking about?” “You want to throw away your future because of an accident with a stranger who won't even acknowledge you?” Her aunt was beyond mad. “That's not how it is aunt.” “Where is he then?” Margaret snapped. “He would never leave his fiancé for you while Daniel is ready to take you, so don't be stupid.” Lily was shaking because her aunt had never spoken with so much anger before. “ I can't do what you've asked aunt.” “Then get out of my house,” Margaret said, pointing at the door. “You can't be a serious aunt. "Where would I go to” Lily asked with tears in her eyes. “Why not go to the man you're wasting everything for.” Margaret had taken Lily under her wings after her parents abandoned her. She knew she would be reaping something from her in the future, but this girl just ruined all her plans. She was of no use anymore. “Are you sending me away because I want to keep this baby aunt?” Lily asked in disbelief. “Yes! Margaret said without batting an eye, “You are of no use anymore, so leave and never come back.” “Fine aunt I'll leave”. Lily left with tears-filled eyes. She stepped outside, the cold air biting against her skin. Homeless. Pregnant. Alone. She felt so empty and lifeless. Lily didn't know where to go. She thought of going to Emma's place, but she knew Emma's parents didn't like her. She kept wondering how her life had come to this point. She kept crying as she dragged her bag. She rubbed her belly, thinking about her baby. What kind of world would he be born in? How would she raise her baby now that she was homeless and jobless? Her life was ruined. Everything around Lily turned blurry as she began trailing away from reality. The next thing she heard was a screeching sound, and she lost consciousness.
