Dress Shopping

By the time we finished playing it was dark outside, my hair was a mess, I had a couple of red marks, but I’ll be fine. My sister and Mother got their asses handed to them, then Mother (again) and Mom got their asses handed to them.

“I’m the best defender in the world!” I excitedly shout out.

“You got lucky, we’ll play tetherball and we’ll see!” Kayanna shouted back.

“Those are two different sports, but I’m still gonna kick your ass,” I say as we enter the house.

“Whatever. We all need a shower and dinner. I’m not eating with stinky people.” Kayanna said while pretending to throw up after sniffing the air around us.

“Says the one who just ate dirt,” Mom said with a little smile as she walked upstairs to her and Mother’s room.

Kayanna struggled to say something back. I walk back and place my hand on her shoulder,” It’s ok you’ll get the perfect comeback in the shower,” I fold over like an omelet and laugh then run from my older sister into my room, laughing more as I heard her cussing as she stomped to her room.

I laughed as I entered my bathroom and began showering. I changed and went downstairs into the kitchen area where everyone else was, and ate then went off to bed.

“Bella wake up.” I instantly shoot up from the bed to see Kayanna holding a bucket of water with a disappointed look on her face, “Damn I was hoping that you stayed asleep a little while longer so I could splash you.”

“It’s you and Mom’s fault that I respond so quickly to wake up. Always splashing me with water if it took longer than a minute to get up.”

“I went through it, you went through it, my partner will go through it, and my children will go through it. It’s a tradition.” I get out of my bed.

“Why did I have to wake at 9:30 a.m.?” I ask squinting at my clock.

“Ah, Miss. Foureyes no longer has four eyes, where are your contacts?”

“In the bathroom. You didn’t answer my question.”

“Dress shopping, you need a dress for tomorrow, hurry up and get dressed so we got to Mint’s store.”

“I haven’t seen Mint in so long, I can’t wait to see her, what about Jonathan?” Kayanna shrugged her shoulders.

“I don’t if he’s at Mint’s store, he might be in the mall today. Hurry up though.”

“Yes ma’am!” I say with a little salute as she walked out of my room.

After my shower, I put on a white t-shirt with faded light blue ripped jeans, a red sheer sweater with a flower pattern, and white sneakers. I walk downstairs and see Kayanna in a white one-shoulder sleeveless crop top, baggy black sweatpants, and white sneakers. I nod my head at her and we walk to her car, a black Mercedes-Benz AMG 634, and we were off to Mint’s shop.

We reach a little store, with a sign ‘? ????? ?? ????????’, we walk into the store and see an Asian woman with shoulder-length caramel light brown hair, chestnut brown eyes, and thin downward turned lips wearing a black long sleeve shirt, with a multipatterned thigh length skirt with black leggings was talking to two other women.

One woman was also Asian and had waist-long blond hair (it’s styled like Yuko Gasai from Future Diary), wide chestnut brown eyes, and golden medium skin, wearing a black long sleeve shirt, dark blue jeans, and sandals.

The other one had wavy light brown hair with her ends dyed blond, chartreuse green eyes with a star marking slightly to the left of her right eye, and warm tan skin, wearing a black sleeveless top with light blue jeans and heeled sandals.

“Kayanna!Belladonna! Hi babes! Let me finish with these two and I’ll come over.” The caramel brown-haired Asian woman called out to us. I smiled while shaking my head at her antics. Things never change with Mint. Even the two women had smiled as the blond one followed after Mint.

The brunette with blond ends came over to where we were sitting and sat down near us, “My name is Beatriz Lucca, yes my name has a z at the end.” She said with a small smile, she also sounded like she had an accent, but not a strong one.

“I’m Belladonna Shade,” I say waving.

“And I’m Kayanna Shade, her older sister,” Kayanna said fixing herself on the couch.

“Oh, we’re going to your graduation party tomorrow. Congratulations, by the way, college is a large milestone.”

I nod my head agreeing, “Thank you! Are you and your girlfriend both attending or just you?” Beatriz’s face turned a bright shade of red and played with the ends of her ponytail.

“Joey isn’t my girlfriend. I mean she’s a friend that’s a girl, but that’s about it! She’s nice and someone I really trust, but as far as I can tell she doesn’t like girls like that, but I haven’t exactly asked, but knowing my luck she doesn’t, but it would be nice, but she’s a friend that’s a girl.” Beatriz stopped rambling and covered her face.

I was going to ask if she was ok and offer an apology for assuming, but she took a deep breath and spoke, “I’m sorry about that, it tends to happen a lot. Um, we’re both attending along with our other friends, your Mother knows us pretty well.”

“Really? You guys are business partners? What’s the name of y’alls company, and what do you guys sell?” Kayanna asked jumping into the conversation.

“Well it’s sorta a mix of different talents and hobbies that come together to solve problems of bigger companies,” Beatriz explained.

“Ohh, that sounds interesting and cool. Maybe Kayanna can join and work as a driver.” I say snickering which was cut off by Kayanna throwing a pillow. Beatriz gave a confused look.

“I’m a driver.” Kayanna explained, “I don’t wanna get into too much detail, but that’s the easiest way to describe it.” She ended with a shrug.

Beatriz nodded her head, “That would be a great addition to the company, but it’s one of those things where you get asked to join, you don’t ask.” Kayanna and I nodded.

“Bea!” Mint called from behind somewhere.

“Oh, my turn already? It was nice talking to yall see you guys tomorrow.” We wave her off and Joey walked back out to where we sitting.

We talked to Joey as well as we waited, and she had the same reaction as Beatriz when I said they were girlfriends.

Finally after an hour Mint and Beatriz come back to the front of the store, “Alright you two are all set, hope to see you guys soon!” Mint hugged both women and they waved goodbye to us as they left.

“Alright, y’all’s turn. Whos going first?”

“The graduate can go first. I don’t mind waiting.” I curtsey with my sweater and Kayanna rolls her eyes as she started playing on her phone.

I hug Mint as she leads me to a rack filled with a variety of dresses, “I selected ones I think you would like, but you’re free to look around if you’d like.”

I nod, “You can go over to Kayanna, cuz I can’t decide on things even to save my life.” We laugh together as Mint back to the front of the store.

Looking at the rack filled with dresses, but a blue dress really stood out to me. I pulled it off the rack and see a blue Amanda velvet maxi dress and I press it to my body,

“Do you like that one? It comes in purple too.” I shake my head at Mint.

“Nah this royal blue is beautiful. Can I try it on?”

“Of course!” Mint stepped out and let me try on the dress.

“Mint!Kayanna! Come look!” They enter and their eyes shine.

“You look so beautiful!” Kayanna said clasping her hands.

“It fits you so well!” Mint says as I turn around in the mirrors.

“Well, you two found your dresses pretty quickly. Come to the front and I’ll ring yall up.”

I changed back and walk to the front. The three of us talked as Mint rang us up.

“It was nice seeing you guys again! Have a great party and tell my nephew hi for me.”

“Whos your nephew?”

“Rowan Adan. Bye!” I nodded as we left.
