Episode5:A safe place to begin

866 Words
(In the living room, after Nur confesses his feelings to Rita and asks for Rosma’s blessing.) Rosma (pauses for a moment, looking back and forth between Nur and Rita) You said… you’re serious about my sister? Nur (sincerely) Yes, I am. I’m not playing around. Rosma (calm tone, but sharp) Do you even know what kind of life we’ve had? Rita isn’t an ordinary girl. She grew up with wounds you might never understand. Nur Maybe I can’t understand all of it… But I’ve also felt loss, Kak. I grew up without a father. My mom worked hard on her own, and I learned to respect women because of her. And that’s exactly why… I want to be a safe place for Rita. Not another scar. Rosma (pauses again) Words are beautiful. But trust doesn’t come from promises. It comes from time—and proof. If you’re serious, don’t rush into dating. Build trust first. Help me. Be present. Show me who you are. Nur (nods firmly) Alright, Kak. I’ll prove myself through actions. (That night, in Rosma and Rita’s room.) Rita (sobbing softly) Kak… why do you act like you don’t trust me? Nur is a good person, I know he is… Rosma (hugging Rita) It’s not that I don’t trust you… It’s because I do, that I’m afraid you’ll get hurt. You’re all I have, Rita. Rita I just… want to feel loved. The right way. Rosma And I want you to have that too. But the healthy way. Slowly. In a way that doesn’t make you lose yourself. (A few days later…) Nur (comes in to help Rosma lift trays of cakes) Kak, let me help. Lots of orders today, right? Rosma (glances briefly, then nods) Yeah. Be careful with that one. (From a distance, Rita smiles seeing Nur helping her sister. Rosma gives a small smile too—without realizing it.) (The next day…) Rita “Kak, I’ve been thinking about something.” Rosma “What is it?” Rita “What if we try opening a little food stall in front of the house? We can sell your cakes.” Rosma (smiling) “That’s a great idea… but we need some capital, Ta.” Rita “I can help look for it, and maybe Nur can help us find customers or promote to his friends.” Rosma “You’re serious, Ta?” Rita “Totally. I want to help you. You shouldn’t work alone all the time. We can do this together.” Rosma “Then… let’s talk to Nur when he comes over again.” (A few days later, Nur visits again.) Nur “Hey you two, anything I can help with?” Rosma “Nur… Rita has an idea, and I think it makes sense. She wants to open a small stall out front.” Nur “That’s awesome! I can design the banner and promote it on social media. A lot of my friends love snacking in the evening.” Rita “Yes! And when we open, you have to be our first customer!” Nur (laughs) “Gladly!” Rosma “Ta, are you sure we can start next week?” Rita “I’m sure, Kak. We already have our cake recipes. Just need to buy ingredients.” Nur “I already made a banner design, want to see it?” Rita “Wow, really? Show me!” Nur (shows phone) “Here. Bright yellow theme to attract attention. The name is… ‘Kue Rosita’. A mix of your names.” Rosma (touched) “Nur… that’s really thoughtful of you.” Rita “I love it! ‘Kue Rosita’—it sounds so nice!” Nur “Now we just need to think about capital for ingredients and a table. I can lend it first, if you’re short.” Rosma “But Nur, we feel bad—” Nur “I’m sincere. Just think of it as my share. We’ll split profits later if it goes well.” Rita (eyes shining) “I promise we’ll take this seriously, Nur. This stall will succeed!” (One week later, early in the morning…) Rosma “Rita, wake up. We need to start making the batter.” Rita “Yes, Kak. I’m ready. Today’s our first day, right?” Rosma “Yeah. Bismillah, Ta.” (In front of the house, their small food stall opens for the first time.) Rita “Fresh cakes, everyone! Still warm! We have sponge cake, fried cakes, and pastels!” Customer 1 “Mmm, smells amazing. Homemade?” Rosma “Yes, ma’am. Homemade—family recipe.” Customer 1 “I’ll take five pastels and two sponge cakes, please.” Rita (whispers to Rosma) “Kak… this is our first customer!” Rosma (eyes teary) “Yes, Ta… Alhamdulillah.” (Later that afternoon…) Nur “How was the first day?” Rita “Tiring… but so happy! We had ten customers!” Rosma “Most of the cakes are gone, Nur…” Nur “You two did amazing. This is only the beginning. But remember… tomorrow might be even tougher.” Rita “Whatever the challenge is… we’ll face it together.” TO BE CONTINUED…
