Chapter Two

1040 Words
In the city.......... Seraphina's POV Sophie rifled through my belongings while I sat on the bed, munching on my cereal. I continued sharing the gist of the interesting scene from my recent adventure trip. It all started when I was 18, and I had lost my parents in a terrible accident. I had to take on various jobs to make ends meet. Until At 22, I landed a job as an explorer. It was tough at first, barely having time for myself and often feeling exhausted. I wanted to quit, but over time, I grew into the role. It became fascinating, educational, and rewarding. And here we are now, at 25, I enjoy a fulfilling, well-paying job, a supportive fiancé, and the best life I could ever ask for. "Have you told Matthew you're back?" Sophie asked, concern etched on her face. "He was worriedly sick, kept calling to check on you, wondering if you'd reached out." "Yes, I called him last night when I finally had a network. I even texted, but he didn't answer," I replied. Sophie raised an eyebrow. "You hardly have time for the innocent guy. Is this how it will be after you marry?" I sighed deeply. "The company is working on a new project. Once that's done, I'll take some time off to plan our wedding and focus more on us," I said eagerly, continuing to munch on my cereal. Sophie raised an eyebrow. "You know, that guy's a billionaire, right? And can even handle your expenses. I don't know why you wouldn't grab the opportunity and leave this dangerous job behind," she pressed, "if I were you-" I cut her off. "Sophie, I don't want to depend on any man. I don't want to come as a burden to anyone. I would rather earn my own money, no matter how tough it is." "Okay, workaholic," she teased, and we both burst into laughter. Just then, my phone rang, Matthew's name lighting up the screen, and my cheeks flushed. I stood up and stepped out of the room to take the call, catching Sophie's knowing smile as I left. In the living room, I picked up the call. "Hey, baby," Matthew's deep voice flowed through the line, smooth and sweet. "Why didn't you answer my calls when I called? I even texted you to let you know I'd be back soon, but you didn't reply." "Sorry, love. I was swamped. Remember that contract I mentioned before your trip? It took all my time," he explained. "How did it go?" I asked, curiosity piqued. "Great! It was a success! Your man is now a zillionaire!" he exclaimed, pride evident in his voice. "Congratulations!" I responded, a twinge of insecurity creeping in. "I'm leaving the office now. I'll pick you up at your place. Dress up and look good for me. We're going to have fun today," he said. "Can't wait to see you, babe" he said again "Same here" I replied, pouting. "See you soon. Bye , baby," he said, "Bye," I said, feeling a rush of excitement as the call ended. I smiled, warmth flooding through me, my cheeks flushed, excitement bubbling within me. After some time, I pushed myself off the couch and made my way back to the room. I swung the door open and spotted Sophie sprawled on the bed, boredom written all over her face. When she finally saw me, she sprang up. "So, what did he say?" she asked, her eyes lighting up with curiosity. "He said I should dress up because we're going out!" I exclaimed, unable to contain my joy. Sophie squealed, "I'm so happy for you, b***h!" Then, with enthusiasm, she jumped off the bed."Let's get you dressed and show off that banging body of yours!" She walked over and pulled me towards the bathroom, her energy infectious. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ After a long soak in the bath, I stepped out, towel wrapped snugly around me. Sophie stood, in the closet room, her gaze absorbed in the colorful array of clothes. "Are you done?" she asked, finally noticing me. "Yes," I replied. With a gleeful tsk,"This is it!" she exclaimed, reaching for a stunning burgundy gown adorned with shimmering gold stones. It's a new dress I had bought on one of my adventure trips. She grabbed a gold clutch and matching heels. "Let's go and get you dressed up!" We left the room together. Once, I slipped on the knee-length burgundy dress, which had a daring slit that ran from my knee to the thigh. It hugged my curves perfectly, accentuating my full hips and ample backside. I loved my body; clothes fit me perfectly. Yet, the attention it drew often made me uneasy. "Matthew won't be able to keep his hands off you today," Sophie teased, her voice sultry. I laughed at her playful jab. "Let's deal with your hair," she said, ushering me to the dressing chair. She began working on my long blonde hair. After straightening and curling my hair, she gathered it to the side, exposing my shoulder and neck from the off-shoulder dress. "I'm so jealous of you right now. You have it all: the gorgeous body, the loving man, the best life," she joked, and we both burst into laughter. I heard the sudden buzz of my phone. I glanced at the screen and saw a message from Matthew. A warmth crept up my cheeks. "Is he here already?" Sophie asked, catching my distracted gaze. "Yeah," I replied, feeling a mix of excitement and nerves. "Don't keep the poor guy waiting," she said with a grin. I stood up, and we made our way out of the room. Once outside, I spotted Matthew leaning against his expensive Bugatti car, his eyes focused on his phone. When he finally looked up, he tucked his phone away and strode over to us. "Hey," he greeted Sophie, who beamed back at him. Then, he turned to me, took my hand, and pressed a gentle kiss on it. I felt a thrill run through me as he led me to the car. "Bye!" I heard Sophie call out behind us as we climbed in. The engine roared to life, and we drove off into the evening.
