STUCK WITH HIM

1004 Words
SUMMER's POV "We will just call you if you get in." the HR told me before I could even tell her my credentials. I looked at her in confusion. "M-Ma'am?" "I said, we will just call you. You may go now. There are a lot of applicants waiting outside." "B-But I haven't— She then looked at me with sharp eyes. "We still have applicants outside, so please leave the room now. We'll just call you to let you know if you get the job." In the end, I had no choice but to leave that room. I even saw HR throw my resume into the trash bin when I was about to close the door. "When will I be able to get a job?" I mumbled to myself as I stepped inside the elevator. It was my fiftieth interview already. I just graduated from college last year and now I am looking for a company to work as a marketing officer. But all the companies that I have applied to seem to look for a beautiful marketing officer. They immediately cut me off whenever they see my appearance. A curly hair that appears as if I have not combed it for years, big eyes with thick eyeglasses that my mom bought me last year, and lips that look dry as my hair. Plus, the blouse that my best friend, Pen, lent me. It was a floral blouse that she even got from her grandma. The world is full of beautiful people. That's what my grandma used to tell me when she was still alive. She used to tell me that there is no such thing as an ugly face, but only ugly eyes. She said that what's important is what's inside your heart. But of course, she only said that to make me believe I am beautiful. But that's not true, because people will only want you if you're beautiful. But if you're an ugly witch like me, you have no space in this world. You will always be the last choice for everyone. Sometimes, you're not even included in the choices. It's like, trying to fit into a place where you don't really belong. I stepped inside the elevator and I almost choked from the water I was drinking when I saw a tall, handsome man with curly dark hair standing inside while scrolling on his phone. I kept on glancing at him while the elevator was moving. Okay, but why does he look familiar? Oh, maybe he's one of those angels I saw in my dreams. "Why are you staring at me?" I came back to my senses when he suddenly looked at me with furrowed brows. "H-Huh? I-I wasn't staring at you." I lied. He then put his phone inside his pocket and turned to me. "If you think you can fool me, then you are wrong. Do you even know who I am?" Shoot. Why is it a big deal for him? It's not as if I could kill him just by staring! "Fine, I was staring at you. I did that because you actually look familiar to me. But now I realized you are definitely far from him." "And what do you mean by that?" "Huh? Nothing. I just mean that--- I wasn't able to finish what I was about to say because suddenly, the floor of the elevator started moving slowly. "Oh my God! The floor is shaking! There is an earthquake!" I shouted. "What?! What are you— The floor began moving again, then the elevator suddenly stopped. "W-Wait, why did it stop? The door isn't even opening!" "What?!" I tried pressing every button on every floor, but the elevator just won't move. The floor was still shaking, so I also tried calling Pen, but there was no connection inside. "What the hell is happening?!" the man yelled. "Look, an earthquake is obviously happening and we're stuck inside this elevator. And since we can't do anything about it, we just have to pray and wait until someone rescues us." I said as I held on to the rails to regain my balance. The man kept on looking around. He also tried pushing every button, but it was useless. Then suddenly, he started cursing. I could see his hands shaking as if he was so scared. "H-Hey, it's going to stop soon. Don't worry." I said to calm him down. He shook his head. "No, I need to get out of here! Let me out! I need to get out of here!" Wait, why is he acting like that? Don't tell me this handsome man has a mental disability? "Get me out of here, please! I want to get out! Somebody help! f**k!" he kept on yelling while tapping the elevator door. "H-Hey, calm down." "Get me out of here! I need to go out!" He was freaking out intensely. His face was turning red and his face was red and his body was shaking. Slowly, I moved near him while he was still yelling. I didn't know what has gotten into me that time, but I held both of his cheeks and made him look at me. "Don't be scared. Everything's going to be alright, okay? I promise. I won't leave you alone here. We will get out of here together." Looking like a poor kid, he finally stopped freaking out and looked straight into my eyes. For no apparent reason, I could feel my heart beating so fast while staring back at him. And I thought he would actually kiss me when he moved his face close to me, but then he just pulled me close to him and hugged me. "Don't leave me here, please.." he mumbled while hugging me. "I won't, I promise I won't leave you here." I admit, even I felt a weird feeling of security just by hugging that handsome stranger. It was as if there wasn't anything that could harm me anymore as long as I was beside him.
