Chapter 9: Daddy Knows Best

1720 Words
Jessica “Everything is gong according to plan.” Lucinda, Roxy’s mother, says with a grin. “You know she’s going to get you both for this.” Daniel says while eating a piece a rib. We were all sitting on a finely decorated table; outside on the porch with twinkling lights everywhere, music playing and the stars looking down on us. I had to give it to Lucinda, she knows how to throw one hell of a party. “Thank you so much for inviting us.” My father Jonathan says to Lucas. Lucas just smiled and wave him off. “You guys are like family to us, of course we would invite you.” Lucas said. “Plus, Jess and Roxy are super close, practically like sisters.” Lucinda finished. On the outside I gave the best smile and nodded at the comment, but on the inside my heart ached. Why does it hurt so much when someone calls me and Roxy sisters? It’s as if someone jabbed me repeatedly over my heart whenever I hear that name. “Well they grew up together, of course they would be close friends.” My father says to them but gives me a side eye. I just nodded. “I’m just happy to have Roxy apart of my life. She’s truly special to me.” I said with a smile. Lucinda and Lucas both smiled back at me, but my father hid his anger by drinking his juice. He always hated whenever I say things like that. He thinks too much into them. “What was the point of us having dinner outside again mom?” Daniel asked with barbecue sauce all over his face. I laughed at this appearance; Daniel really likes his barbecue. Lucinda rolled her eyes got up and took his napkin to clean him up. “No matter how old you get, you still eat atrociously.” She said, then she faced all of us. “The reason we did it out here is because I know my daughter. Have you noticed she and Supreme Alexander haven’t come back yet? It’s been about thirty minutes and still no sign of the?” She checks her watch. We all thought about it for a moment and then it dawned on me. There probably in there getting well acquainted right now. Just the thought of Alexander touching each other, making love. Her sweet moans escaping my mouth because of HIM! It made me livid. I can’t think about it, I won’t. The more I thought about possibly losing my secret love, the more my heart breaks. Roxy should be mines, not his. I want to shower her with love, spoil her and make her scream my name, but I can’t. My father forbids it, and whatever my father says in his household I must obey. Getting up I excuse myself to use the bathroom. I was so in tune with my thoughts that I didn’t comprehend what she was saying, I just nodded my head at her and walked inside. When I went to the first bathroom, I tried to open the door but couldn’t, so I knocked. “I’m in here.” Someone responded. “Sorry.” I then decided to use the bathroom next to the stairs, hopefully someone wouldn’t be in their so that I can cry in peace. Thankfully, the bathroom door was dark and open. Just when I was about enter the bathroom, something sweet tickled my nose. I couldn’t describe the smell, but it made my mouth water all of a sudden. ‘Go’ I heard a voice say in my head, and my body followed its command. The smell like it came from up the steps. I know Alexander and Roxy are in the house somewhere, but I must see what this heavenly smell is. Quietly traveling up the stairs, I closed my eyes and stuck my nose out. “I wouldn’t advise going up their child.” A deep voice said behind me causing me to jump. “Father.” I said while holding my chest. He was standing at the bottom of the steps with the drink in one hand and his other hand in his pocket. “Why not, my heart wants to go up there.” I said to him. “It is not your heart that wants to go up there, but you body. Your body can lead you into places that sometimes you want to be in and sometimes you don’t want to.” He says then starts to walk away from the steps.  “If you must go up-stairs, by all means go.” ‘He’s wrong.’ A voice says to me again in my head. ‘Go.’ Instead of focusing on my father’s words, I listen to the voice. My father is wrong, I know it. My heart is up there, and I must go for it. The sweet smell intensified; gosh I want to know what this smell is. I want to ingrain this smell in my head for the rest of my life. When I got upstairs and slowly walked in the hallway, the smell stopped in front of Roxy’s bathroom door. ‘What could be going on in here?’ I think, curiosity getting the best of me I reach for the handle and then my heart dropped. Before I can even place a finger on the handle, I heard a loud moan coming out the bathroom followed by a “Alexander, please.” It was Roxy. Roxy and Alexander were in there doing who knows what. Roxy is the source of the sweet smell. My heart was so shattered I ended up on the floor. I couldn’t move anymore or think straight. Why does it have to be Roxy? Why do I have to have my heart constantly broken by someone who means so much to me. I want to go in there so bad and break that f*****g man’s arm right now and claim her right in front of him, but they’re mates. I can’t do that to them and put my family in shame. The more she moaned behind those doors, the more I grew weak; unable to breathe anymore. Tears were starting to fall from my face. I can’t do this anymore; I can’t bear this pain anymore. ‘Gathering all the strength that I had I slowly walked away and headed downstairs. The tears still freely falling. I don’t give a damn he see’s me, my heart is shattered and nothing in this world can bring it together. When I walked down the last steps, I saw my father staring out the window with his arm crossed in front of him. “How was it up there?” He said without looking at me. “There was nothing there for me.” I replied, wiping my tears away. He turned around and looked at the broken daughter that stood before him. There was no sign of love, compassion no comfort. It was just cold and distant. “I told you your body could lead you to places that you won’t like, I told your mother about this and look how she turned out.” He said before walking away. I stared at him in shock. He hasn’t mentioned my mother in so long and the one time he chooses to bring her up is the one time I really needed comfort from. My mother—Serena. She’s the reason why my father works so hard to make sure we don’t anymore shame into this house. The person my father despises more than any enemy we faced. The person that left him, for another woman. Ever since the night she chose to leave the family, my father became extra strict on us. Any mistakes we made would not be tolerated, and when he went into my room one night and read my diaries; the one places where I could hide my secret desires about Roxy. He made it his business to make sure that I don’t fall into the same fate as my mother. —Flashback— “I can’t do this anymore John.” My mother said through the closed doors me and my older siblings, Josh and Caden, were listening through. “What do you mean, my love. We can’t get through this. We’re mated.” He said “I can’t keep denying myself any longer.” She said, the bed creaked. “John, the truth is I’m not your mate.” “What do you mean you’re not my mate. You felt it.” “No, I lied. My mother made me believe that you were my mate for so long that for a second, I believed it was so. The truth is I found my mate.” “A f*****g WOMAN!” He shouts, causing us to flinch. “SO WHAT!?” She shouts back. It was quiet for a moment. “Serena, please don’t do this. We have three beautiful children, don’t do this; to us.” He pleads. “I’m sorry John.” She responded and then we heard footsteps. When she opened the door, we saw mommy wearing a coat and carrying a suit case. She looked at us in shock then tears started flowing. “Mommy where are you going?” I asked. She wipes a tear away and puts the suitcase down. Then she gets lower and kisses all of our foreheads. “Mommy needs to go somewhere my darling pups.” “Will you be back soon?” My oldest brother Josh asked. “She will never come back.” A dark voice says behind mommy. I was too young to realize it, but the once playful loving dad that we all adored, would be replaced by a dark ruthless man that we will end up rejecting. —present— I heard footsteps trying to come down the steps quietly and without even looking I knew who it was. “Jess, what are you doing down here? The party is outside.” Roxy says coming behind me, but I didn’t look at her. I can’t look at her. The wound is too fresh. “Wasn’t feeling up to it.” I tell her in a monotone voice. She was quiet for a few moment “Jess what’s wrong?” She asked, placing a hand on my shoulder. I shrugged it off. “I’m heading home. See you later.” was all I could say before walking away. Just when I reach the door, I heard another pair of footsteps coming down the stairs. I stopped and turn facing the man I want to kill so badly. Alexander. He looked at me and I looked at him growling. “Jess what the hell…” Roxy said sounding annoyed but changed when I finally looked at her. With one last look at Alexander, I opened the door and slammed it close. I’m done.
