I race out into the hallway with Naya and Salazar close behind me, sniffing the air to try to figure out where Carter went, searching for his scent.
I can't find it but it makes no difference as a crash sounds out from behind one of the closed doors, giving their location away. My heart in my throat, I head towards it, each second feeling like an eternity until I reach the door and throw it open, coming to a halt as I take in the scene in front of me.
The sorceress is on her back on the floor, an overturned chair beside her, her hand to her throat. Carter and Erica are kneeling above her, looking at each other. They don't even turn to look as the three of us rush in.
Kadee immediately begins whimpering in my head. Something's wrong, she whines. Something's changed.
