1 Year Later "Alexander! The baby's kicking again!" I was on the couch. 8 months pregnant. Craving mangoes at 2AM. He came running from the kitchen. No shirt. Hair messy. CEO of Virel Corp... and terrified of a pregnant wife. "Where? Here?" He put his hand on my stomach. The baby kicked. Right into his palm. He froze. Then grinned. That stupid, beautiful grin. "She's strong. Like her mama." "Or stubborn. Like her papa." I teased. He sat beside me. Kissed my forehead. Then my belly. "Hey, little one. Don't bully mommy, okay?" The house was quiet. Our house. The one with the garden. My mom was asleep upstairs. His sister was in her room. No penthouse. No board meetings tonight. Just us. "Remember this?" He pulled out an old paper from his wallet. The first contract. `1 YEAR. FAKE MARRIAGE.` I snorted. "You still have that?" "I keep it to remind me." He tore it in half. Then in half again. "That the best thing that ever happened to me... started with a lie." "Hey." I hit his arm. "Rude." He laughed. Pulled me into his arms. Careful of the belly. "The truth is better. Right?" "Much better." His phone buzzed. Work. Always work. He looked at it. Then at me. Then he turned it off. "Tomorrow." He said. "Tonight is for my girls." I melted. "Cheesy." "Guilty." He kissed me. Soft. Slow. Like he did in Bali. Like he did at our real wedding. Later, we stood at the balcony. Looking at the stars. "Scared?" he asked. About the baby. "Terrified." I admitted. "What if I'm a bad mom?" "What if you're the best mom?" He countered. "What if she's perfect?" "What if she's like you?" He pulled me closer. "Then God help us all." We both laughed.
