Chapter 4 - Don't Touch My Wife

283 Words
The Paris business dinner was torture. I had to smile. Shake hands. Be "Mrs. Virel". But the worst part? Mr. Laurent. The French investor. "Madame Virel, you are beautiful." He took my hand and kissed it. "Your husband is a lucky man." I pulled my hand back quickly. "Thank you, Mr. Laurent." From across the room, I felt it. Alexander's stare. Cold. Dangerous. Dinner ended. We were walking to the car when Laurent stopped us. "Mrs. Virel, may I give you my card? For business opportunities?" He stepped too close. His hand reached for my waist. In 0.5 seconds, Alexander was there. He grabbed Laurent's wrist. Hard. "Don't touch my wife." His voice was quiet. But it made everyone freeze. Laurent paled. "I-I was just-" "Get your hands off her. Again." Alexander let go and pulled me behind him. "And you will lose your contract with Virel Corp." We got in the car. Silence. For 20 minutes. Finally I couldn't take it. "You didn't have to do that." "Didn't I?" He stared out the window. Jaw clenched. "You're jealous." The words slipped out before I could stop them. He laughed. Cold. "Jealous? Of what? You?" "Then why did you do it?" He turned to me. Gray eyes dark. "Because you're mine. On paper. And I don't like people touching what’s mine." Mine. The word hit me harder than it should have. We got to the hotel. He went straight to the couch again. But this time... he didn't sleep. I heard him pacing all night. And I realized something. This contract was supposed to have no feelings. So why was my heart beating so fast... because a ruthless CEO got jealous for me?
