Chapter 5 - It Was Just The Contract

314 Words
I couldn't sleep. Because of him. Because of "mine." At 1AM, I went to the kitchen for water. Alexander was there. Shirtless. Hair messy. Holding a glass of whiskey. He looked different. Not the ruthless CEO. Just... a man. "Can't sleep?" he asked without looking at me. "No." "You should." He took a drink. "We have a meeting at 9AM." I leaned against the counter. "About last night-" "Forget it." He cut me off. "I overreacted. It won't happen again." Liar. I don't know what came over me. Maybe it was the whiskey. Maybe it was Paris. Maybe it was 3 months of pretending. But I stepped closer. "Alexander." He finally looked at me. Eyes dark. "Don't." "Don't what?" "Look at me like that." Like what? Like I wanted him? Because I did. Stupid. It was all stupid. This was just a contract. But when he set his glass down and walked toward me, I didn't move. He stopped inches from me. I could smell his cologne. Feel his heat. "This is a mistake." His voice was rough. "Then don't do it." I whispered. His hand came up. Fingers brushing my cheek. So soft. So careful. Like I would break. "Last time." He said. "Just this once." And then he kissed me. Not cold. Not calculated. Desperate. Deep. Like he was drowning and I was air. My hands grabbed his shirt. His arms wrapped around my waist and lifted me onto the counter. For a moment, the contract didn't exist. The rules didn't exist. There was only him. And me. Until his phone rang. He pulled back instantly. Breathing hard. Face unreadable again. "Work." He answered the call. Walked away. And just like that... it was over. I sat there, lips still tingling, heart breaking. Because the worst part? He said "last time." Like this kiss never meant anything. Like I never meant anything.
