CHAPTER FIVE 5. WHY WERE YOU SPYING ON ME ? I take a step back but Milo takes one forward and growls. Kieran starts moving towards me in quick steps and I bolt. My vans clad feet stomp loudly into the mud, the muddy water splashes and stains them, but I’m not concerned about them at all. I ran as fast as I could, ducking under plants and knocking a few vases and bird houses aside. I might have also trampled on Aunt Stella’s sunflowers. She really had a hard time growing them and would spend hours doing research on them. Sorry Aunt Stella. The rain had started coming down in torrents. Milo ran towards me, nearly snapping my ankles with his strong jaw, but I escaped at the last minute, slipping down onto the grass. Ouch, I think I scraped my knees. I don’t have time to confirm or let myself acknowledge the pain or cry over it. I blink back the tears and get back up, tearing towards the gate again. “Hey you. STOP THERE.” I heard Kieran say and curse loudly. It only makes me run faster. His voice is getting way too close. I reached the gate and yanked it open. I feel his rough fingers graze my bare neck lightly in an attempt to grab me. It’s futile. My heart is beating so hard against my ribcage in fear and I’m sweating in the cold rain. I slid inside before slamming the gate right in his face. He was a second too late. Milo doesn’t stop barking. I grab the latch to lock the gate, sighing in relief. His hands slammed onto the gate, pushing it back with enough force to send me stumbling back. Kieran walked into my backyard like he belonged there and had every right to come in freely. Well, he kind of had. He grabs me by the front of my shirt and slaps my cap off. I flinch and stare at him wide-eyed in shock, my long blonde hair tumbles down. His brows furrowed more and he growled as he recognized me. He drives my back into the gate and invades my personal space. He’s trying to intimidate me with his height and strength. I glared back at him. He yanks my glasses off. Using his bootclad feet to break them onto the floor. “What is wrong with you? You psycho! Those are freaking dolce and gabbana”, I scolded. That was a gift from Chloe’s grandma. I slammed my hand into his hard chest with my full strength, trying to shove him off me, but to no avail. He was unmoved and remained in my face and space like a solid rock. “Why were you spying on me?” He demands and slaps my fist away like they’re pesky little flies. “Why would I do that? Get over yourself.” I bit back “Are you f*****g crazy now? I caught you red-handed.” He laughs in a voice that holds absolutely zero humor. I flinched at the cuss word. “Your backyard is not off-limits to me. You’re the crazy one for chasing me out. Get away from me.” I said, my resolve clearly leaving me. His jaws clenched and I knew I’d poked the devil with my answer. If I know something about Kieran, it’s the fact that he hates lies the most. He used to get so angry and violent whenever someone lied to him and I was clearly doing that right now.. His hands dig into my hair and jerk my head back so hard I’m looking right into his eyes. They weren’t brown as I had thought. They were a dark shade of green. His pupils dilate, growing darker and darker, his hold tightening as my scalp burns. I slapped him as hard as I could, dragging my acrylic nails across his face. He curses and let’s go of me in shock. I sprint to our door. Not even looking back or picking up my cap. I was playing with fire and if I looked back for even a micro second, I’d get burned into ash. “f*****g witch nails.” I heard Kieran grunt before he tore after me. He was right on my heels as I made it to the porch and took the steps three at a time. He wouldn’t dare come inside, where my parents might wake up from the noise and see him harassing me. “Dad!” I screamed, but the wind was strong and it carried it away. “f**k” Kieran curses as he covers my mouth so hard, I’m unable to make a single noise or even bite. He grabs me by the waist and hoists me off the floor, holding my back against his naked chest. I scratch and kick desperately. Lightning flashes and thunder crushes onto a tree in the garden, breaking a branch. I latch onto the swing chair but he yanks my hands off and proceeds to descend the stairs. The tears I was holding back spill down my cheeks at my helplessness. How could he still win after everything he did to me? Life is really unfair. I elbow him in his ribs as he grunts in pain. I did it again since it seemed to be his weak spot. He curses as his feet slip on the wet stairs. He doesn’t let me go and we both crash hard onto the floor, rolling onto the bottom of the stairs. I try to get back up but he’s quicker and pushes me back down into the mud. He pins me down with his powerful thighs, slamming my wrists above my head and into the mud with one hand. I moan into his palm in pain, bucking up and thrashing wildly, trying to break free. A fiery and hungry look appears in his eyes and he grabs my neck, pressing me further into the wet ground. “Keep doing exactly that, it’ll be the perfect incentive to snap your neck, baby girl.” I slumped back quietly because it really looked like he would go along with that threat, without a moment of hesitation. I grit my teeth and glared at him, hatred shining in my eyes. I hated being overpowered just because I was the physically weaker gender…. “You have something that belongs to me. Give it back whilst I’m being nice.” Kieran says in between clenched teeth. “I don’t have anything of yours.” I lied. “Give me the f*****g phone, Ali.” He knows I hated being called Ali and going back to his old ways meant he wanted to see me weak and powerless. He always liked to look down on me and boss me around, but we’re grown now. That old Ali was gone. “It’s Aaliyah Waters to you now, ass hat, and I don’t know what you’re talking about, so go ahead and do your worst. My parents might open the door any minute from now. Let’s see how you get out of this then.” I said with a grin. Please don’t do your worst, it’s all false bravado. His lips curl up in a smirk before his hands dive into my shirt, grabbing onto my boob and squeezing it hard. I yelp and buck up against him. His hands latch onto the phone on my stomach and yank it out of my muddy wet shirt. I’d placed it in my shirt when he had grabbed me earlier, in an attempt to hide it. Something wet licks my face. Ew. It’s Milo’s tongue. He pants and does it again, wagging his tail. Oh, so you recognize me now buddy? Well, poor timing. He jumps on me and licks my face some more. “Argh Milo!”, I jerked my face away and hugged him instead, scratching behind his ears where he used to love. Apparently, he still does, as he makes an appreciative growl. I smile and look up, realizing we are both alone. He must have left when Milo attacked me with his sloppy tongue. Oh and my phone was gone too, plus my dignity and pride. He had taken them with him. That bastard had openly sexually and physically harassed me. This was my most insulting moment! Forget humiliating me in the cafeteria. “C’mon Milo, let’s go inside.” I sigh.
