Chapter Four

Third person's POV

Things had been going well for Ruby ever since Aiden confronted her and instructed her that she keep it a secret from everyone. After that day, everything went back to normal for Ruby and Aiden, it was like nothing ever happened between them and Ruby liked it that way. A month had passed by and everything slowly began to fade away until a few days ago when Ruby woke up to some weird symptoms, at first she saw it as a sign of stress because work was starting to become really busy for her but as days went by, Rita was able to convince Ruby into going to the hospital for a few tests. Ruby did so and today she is receiving the tests results.

Ruby walks out of her work place with a throbbing headache. She pleaded to her boss that she had something urgent to attend to and Aiden had to let her go after several pleas.

Ruby releases a heavy sigh as she boards a cab to the hospital. The drive to the hospital is slow to her because she can not help herself from thinking about the tests results and what could actually be wrong with her, Ruby has her suspicions which is why she asked the doctor to conduct a pregnancy test alongside the other tests the doctor planned on conducting.

Ruby hopes in her heart that the tests do not come out positive, everything is going smooth for her, her relationship with her boss is back to normal and the last thing she would want is that some pregnancy comes in the way and ruins it all. The taxi pulls the car into the hospital's parking lot. Ruby gets off and pays the driver. She bids the driver goodbye and steps into the hospital building. She gets a few heartwarming greetings from the workers around and she can not help but smile at their cheerfulness and happy attitude to their work.

Ruby walks towards the receptionist with a small smile plastered on her face.

"Hi, good morning." Ruby says. The receptionist raises her head up from her desk and flashes Ruby a smile as well.

"Hi, how can I be of help to you ma'am?" The receptionist asks.

Ruby clears her throat and goes ahead to say "Actually, I have an appointment with Doctor Dorcas in the next few minutes. I am supposed to collect the results to the test I conducted a week ago." Ruby explains. The receptionist nods her head and excuses herself to place a call to Doctor Dorcas just for confirmation.

After a few minutes of waiting, The receptionist finally returns to Ruby who already has an impatient look on her face.

"Sorry about that. It is just my job to make confirmations." The receptionist says noting the tired look on Ruby's face.

"No problem, I totally understand." Ruby replies forcing a smile on her face.

The receptionist nods her head and speaks up "Fifth floor, first office on the left."

Ruby's entire body freezes at the mention fifth floor, her mind immediately drifts to Aiden and then to the night where everything began.

"Ma'am are you okay?" The receptionist asks tapping Ruby gently on the shoulder and jolting her out of her own thoughts.

"I am fine, thank you very much. Fifth floor, first office. Noted." Ruby rants, she excuses herself and walks towards the elevator. Ruby steps into the elevator and leans on the walls, her entire body feels weak and she feels nauseous. The elevator door dings open for the fifth floor and Ruby steps out. She makes her way towards the first office on the left. She delivers a small knock on the door and the feminine voice immediately yells "Come in, the door is not locked!"

Ruby pushes the door open and steps into the small space. The room makes Ruby feel comfortable because of the size space. She nods her head as a form of greeting to Doctor Dorcas who ushers her to sit on the chair facing her.

"Good morning Ruby and how are you feeling?" Doctor Dorcas asks with a concerned look on her face. She notices the tired look on Ruby's face and releases a small sigh. "You need to take care of yourself more dear. The child in you needs enough care as well."

Ruby's face becomes pale at the mention of a child. She raises her brows in surprise at the doctor and her entire body begins to shake in fear.

"What did you just say doctor?" Ruby manages to say in a low tone. Doctor Dorcas rubs her temple and scolds herself for blurting it out so easily.

"I am sorry Ruby. I should not have mentioned it that way. I should have let you have a look at your test results first before asking you to take care of yourself and the child you are carrying. I just did it out of concern." Doctor Dorcas explains. Ruby opens her mouth in shock at the doctor's words.

"What child doctor? Please tell me it is not what I think it is." Ruby bursts into tears. Her entire body vibrates in fear at the consequences of her own actions. She begins to regret the day she ever crossed paths with Aiden and she even dwells in deeper regret at even allowing Rita to persuade her into going to the hotel that night.

"Ruby Daniels, I am going to need you to calm down. Do not be scared, it is not the end of the world." Doctor Dorcas says rising to her feet.

"I DEMAND AN ANSWER DOCTOR! WHAT CHILD?" Ruby exclaims slamming the doctor's table and startling the doctor.

"You are pregnant Ruby. The pregnancy tests came out positive." Doctor Dorcas says gulping a lump down her throat and waiting for Ruby's next reaction.

Ruby takes the doctor off by surprise, she rises to her feet and staggers backward. Ruby suddenly shuts her eyes close and collapses to the floor succumbing to the darkness.
