(Alex’s POV)
“You guys go one ahead with that. Take it and the other to the packhouse. Alex and I will be right behind you.” I looked over at April after she said that. We were getting into the cars and Austin, with Jake's help, had put the tapestry in the back of his SUV so I figured we’d have passengers but I guess not.
Once we were in the car I started to ask where we were going but before I could she used a royal mind-link to say, “Babe, let your ears perk up a bit. Tell me, do you hear anything odd?”
Did I hear anything odd? Hmmm.
I took a second and began isolating different sounds. Birds, bees, bears. Squirrels. That sounds like a possum. No, three. A couple of men at the other end of the warehouse chatting. Leaves rustling. And.. hold on… what’s that? A weird ticking sound.
