Red Dress

A few days had passed since the meeting in the woods with the foal. Tine thought it was hilarious. She kept singing ‘Call Me Maybe’ in my head and laughing. What did the foal even mean? Call me. With what? A landline? A mobile? Just shout foal? Maybe I had inhaled some forest mushrooms. I looked out of my bedroom window and that’s when I saw a man enter the driveway. The usual delivery driver was an old man but this new guy was... ‘Delicious. s*x on legs. Can we pounce on him?’ Tine asked. I peered out. He had tattooed muscly arms, olive skin, a very short dark beard, short hair but enough to grip your hands through, and dark eyes. He looked up into my window and winked. I nearly fell off the bed. I quickly ducked, waiting for my next move. ‘Get downstairs and greet him.’ Demanded Tine. I peeked up again as I watched him leave. As he left, he turned back around and glanced up at my window again before he got in his van and drove off. Tine, do you think it’s about time our lives became a little more interesting? I asked her. Whenever I spoke to her, it was in my head. She was like an inner part of me. When I wolfed out, it was then Tine in control. I wasn’t allowed to wolf out anymore due to her being so crazy and impulsive. Once I was marked and mated, they said I could free her again, but she was basically a prisoner in my head, as I was in this house. ‘You missed your chance. Damn it, if I was in charge we would be mating right now.’ She declared. Tine, I agree with you about losing our virginity to someone else so that Quinn doesn’t have full control over everything. We need to be careful though. We can’t go around getting random delivery drivers laid and then killed. I explained to her. Silence. I knew she was mad at me. She had been thirsty for s*x since she came into my life at eighteen. We agreed to find our mate first, but that’s when I was given the bad news about being a spare. I remember it like it was yesterday. Three years ago My party was small. On my fourteenth birthday, everything had come crashing down. There had been chaos amongst the pack. A traitor had delved into information and our pack was targeted. The lives of many pack members were lost that day, my father included. My grandmother and Grandfather were never found. I assumed they had been taken too. I continued to go to school until I was eighteen. We leave school at twenty-two here. It’s like a human school mixed with training etc. up until the age of eighteen. Then, until the age of twenty two you are organised into your strengths and weaknesses. You learn how to fight with extreme intensity, learn how to fend for yourself such as growing your own food, surviving any and every type of war and natural disaster, you would learn how to care for the sick, caring for the pups etc we all learned a little in the first year before being organised into our main strength. On my eighteenth birthday, I hadn’t been allowed a proper birthday party like the other years. They said it was for my protection, which I found strange considering Quinn had a huge birthday bash planned which I was invited to. He said that even though it was his party, I could invite my friends so that we could all celebrate together. I was looking forward to my little birthday bash tonight, but even more so for Quinn’s in a few days. I put on a tight red, figure-hugging dress. It was silk and ruched up at one side, emphasising my curves. It came down to above my knees but the top of my breasts were on show. I plaited one little side part of my hair and clipped it back, added a red lipstick and some mascara. Quinn walked into my room without knocking, in his usual cocky way. ‘Fuck.’ Was all he could say as he looked me up and down, the hunger in his eyes. ‘If you weren’t saving yourself for your mate then I would ravish you right now.’ I giggled, as I wrapped my arms around my body shyly. ‘You don’t need to be shy when you look this good.’ He said as he walked over to me. He held out a box in his hand. ‘Happy birthday Clem.’ Before he caressed my cheek with his thumb, kissing my cheek. I blushed and he opened the box out to me, revealing the most beautiful necklace. A white gold chain with a vintage locket. Inside the locket was a photo of my Grandmother on one side, and my Grandfather on the other. Tears began to fall down my face as he wiped them away. Pulling me in for a cuddle. He was much taller than me, so my head leaned against his chest as he held me close. ‘Whatever happens with our mates, promise me that we will always be together. Raising our pups alongside each other just as we were raised. Nobody will ever come between us.’ I must have looked at him wrong, because as I glanced towards his face. He lifted up my chin and then bent down to kiss my lips. We were interrupted as I heard my name being called. As I walked down to the ‘party room’ Tine was eager. ‘He can ravish us. Let him, let him ravish us.’ She said. I laughed. I had only met her at midnight and already she had me in hysterics. Tine, we are saving ourselves for our fated mate. I promise it will be worth the wait. You never know. He might be at school tomorrow. I said as she agreed and hoped it was the case. Many mates were found at either birthday parties or school. The Moon Goddess tended to match people of similar ages. It helped to prevent people from having chosen mates as they waited for their mates. Every so often, people would be mated to someone who wasn’t a similar age, but their love was undeniable and worth the wait. I was so excited to find mine. I danced with my Mum, but she couldn’t stop crying. I’m guessing seeing her baby grow up would make a significant impact on her. I think she worried about being lonely after Dad, but I’m sure the Moon Goddess will give her a second chance mate. I danced with Quinn, Theo and some of my girlfriends. Quinn couldn’t keep his eyes off me. It felt weird to get the attention from him like this. We had grown up together since we were infants. After the party, Quinn and I were called to a room by his mother and father. I assumed they may have heard what he said to me. It wasn’t my fault though. Although, girls always got the blame. I’d be told not to wear this again so I didn’t tempt their darling son. It’s not my fault he was so tempted, but I knew he would never hurt me. I trusted him completely. We walked into the back room where we saw Luna Vivian and Alpha Seymour looking serious. Quinn wasn’t supposed to drink until he was eighteen, but he had of course been sneaking a little, I was a little tipsy too. We couldn’t help but giggle at their serious faces. ‘Sit down, both of you.’ Demanded Seymour as he gestured for us to sit on the opposite sofa to them. Quinn held my hand and squeezed it as we both giggled. ‘What have we done now.’ Quinn's eye rolled his father. It was just like when were kids and Theo would tattle and get us into trouble. Years had passed since we were being told off again though. ‘From this day forward, Clementine will no longer attend school. She will be your spare.’ Stated Seymour. I gasped in shock. ‘What did you just say?’ Asked Quinn, standing in front of me to protect me from his father, not letting go of my hand as he gripped it tightly. His mother began to speak. ‘Quinn sit down and just be quiet for a moment whilst we explain everything. The more you interrupt, the longer it’s going to take.’ Quinn immediately sat down in shock and we both looked at each other with so many questions. ‘On 29th June 2002, chaos tore our pack apart. This was all at the hands of a traitor. My father's Beta Winston Toussaint had revealed our secrets to other packs, in turn, they came for us and killed our pack members. Weakening our pack.’ My heart sank as he accused my Grandfather of such a horrific crime. He would never ever betray the pack. They were more like brothers than friends. Tears began to roll down my cheeks as Quinn wiped them away, holding me to his chest. ‘It was the fault of his actions that you grew up without a father, my best friend and Beta was murdered. Upon capturing Winston, he begged and pleaded with us to allow his family to live. To protect and keep you safe. We didn’t know how much your mother knew, and we weren’t sure if she was part of it but we had all grown so close, it didn’t seem right to end her life. We allowed her to keep her lifestyle but as punishment for the actions of her father, and to ensure that she couldn’t betray us, we agreed that you would be the spare.’ Quinn and I both looked at each other, still not understanding. He didn’t dare ask, he knew better. His father would beat him. He wasn’t the nicest of men. They had the warmth of their mother. Although, Quinn had shown more of his father in him the past few years. He had spent the last four years picking on me at school, only for me to now realise, it was because he liked me. The whole ‘boys pick on girls when they like them’ had never sat right with me though. ‘In the event that we lose pack members, and you lose your Luna, we made the decision that you will have a backup. Our pack will never be weak again. You have a backup, Clementine will be that backup.’ Quinn got up to say something but his father backhanded him to the face and he immediately sat down, cowering from his father into the corner of the sofa. I was too scared to speak as I comforted Quinn, leaning over him to try and protect him. Just as I did when we were pups. ‘We understand that you are both very close and always have been. It’s clear to see that you have feelings for each other. Those feelings will be lost once you find your fated mates. I will not allow you to find yours Clementine. You will now be homeschooled and the only men who will be allowed in your presence will be myself and Quinn. Theodore can be around you until his eighteenth birthday.’ Quinn gasped again, as he whispered to me. ‘They are even taking Theo away from you.’ We were never able to ask why. Seymour stood up and pulled Vivian out. She had tears in her eyes. Once a strong Luna, she was beginning to show the cracks and the soft spot which was me, the daughter she always wanted and treated like her own. She was practically my Auntie. Was. Previously, now in the past tense. ‘You can say your goodbyes. In a few days, Quinn will celebrate his birthday without you, he is likely to find his fated mate. If anything is to happen to her, you will be prepared and waiting to fix him.’ He stormed out of the room as we both sobbed. Quinn held me in his arms, as he sobbed and sobbed. He hadn’t shown me his tears since he was around five. Seeing this side of him was unusual. ‘I never knew Clem, I never knew any of this. I’m so sorry, I’m so, so sorry.’ He cried. I placed my forehead onto him as we nuzzled each other. I guess Seymour was right, we were very close. We shared such a strong bond. How was he certain that we weren’t fated mates? Why did they need a spare so badly? I cupped my hand around his cheek and we looked into each other's eyes. I decided that tonight, I would lose my virginity to the one I had always loved. I kissed him passionately, as he gasped in shock. Our tears ran down our faces and onto our lips. He pushed his tongue into my mouth as we continued to kiss urgently. He gazed into my eyes for a second, as though he was asking the question. I nodded my head and began to kiss him again. Quinn started to unzip the back of my dress as I ran my fingers through his hair, licking the spot where he would be marked, just knowing that it would be where I would mark him. I did not doubt in my mind. Quinn groaned in pleasure as he started to roll the top of my dress down, massaging my breasts. That was when we were interrupted by Seymour barging in and pulling him away by his ear. Whilst Quinn shouted ‘I know she’s my mate. Dad get off of me, she’s going to be my mate.’ I cried myself to sleep that night, and every night for the next year. When my nineteenth birthday candles went out, I swore I would never shed another tear again.
