Roselyn was shocked just by reading the words on her phone screen. It sent chills down her spine, and her pulse quickened as she read the text again:
“Be careful, mind who you trust, he is watching”.
Her heart pounded fast as she glanced around the Café instinctively.
Her breath caught in her throat when she realised the USB drive Sophia had left on the table was gone.
She searched tirelessly, her fingers brushing over the table's surface as if it might reappear. Her eyes searched round the Café, scanning every nook and cranny but found nothing, and the barista kept wiping down the counter.
Couldn't it be Sophia that took it while leaving? Or had someone else grabbed it while she was distracted?
Roselyn’s mind spiralled into panic as she stood up, her chair scraping against the floor, drawing the attention of the barista.
“Excuse me”. She called out, and her voice was shaky.
“Did you see anyone take something from this table?”
The barista frowned , shaking his head. “No ma'am. He responded. I've been here the whole time. No one came to your table, he explained.
Her stomach sank immediately. Nothing was making sense to her.
How could the drive vanish, just like that ? She asked inwardly.
Roselyn’s phone buzzed again, expecting another cryptic message, but this time, it was a call from her husband, Raymond.
With trembling fingers, she stared at the screen of her phone. The temptation of answering the call was strong, but the fear of hearing his voice was much stronger.
Her chest kept tightening with each passing second that the phone rang.
Was he the one watching?she asked herself in confusion
Determined not to let fear paralyze her, she rushed out of the Café, with her thoughts still racing.
She needed answers, or she might lose her mind, and Sophia was the only person who could provide them.
The streets were eerily quiet as she stepped outside. She scanned the area, hoping to find a glimpse of Sophia.
“Where did you go?” She muttered under her breath, with so much frustration.
A flash of movement in the distance caught her attention. She squinted, spotting a figure turning to the corner at the far end of the street. Without hesitation, she started running towards the direction of the figure.
Her heels clattered against the pavement as she chased after the figure, her heart pounds as she gasps for breath with a mixture of adrenaline and desperation.
“Sophia!” she called out ,but the figure didn't stop.
By the time she reached the corner , the street was empty. She turned around searching for any signs of movement, but there was nothing. It was as if the figure had vanished into thin air.
She leaned against a lamppost while her lungs were burning. She couldn't shake off the thought that someone was watching her.
The memory of the text flashed through her mind once again:
“He is watching.”
She turned sharply, her eyes scanning every shadow and doorway. But she couldn't find anyone.
Her phone buzzed again, and her heart skipped. This time, the message was simple:
“Go home.”
Roselyn's hands clenched into fists. She was afraid and frustrated. She didn't know who was sending these messages. She was tired of the games. She wasn't going to run home like a scared child.
Instead, she got into her car and aimlessly drove away. Every moment felt like a heavy weight of unanswered questions.
By the time she arrived at her hotel room, it was nearly midnight.
She stepped inside, and the silence was oppressive. Her heels clicked against the marble floor as she made her way to the bathroom.
She undressed and put on the shower, hoping it would calm her nerves, but her heart raced so badly, remembering all that had happened earlier.
She quickly had her bath and walked towards her bedroom to rest. But her phone buzzed again. She nearly slipped while trying to pick up the phone.
with her heart racing, she read the message.
"It's not safe there, leave that hotel room now.”
Her blood ran cold, and she tried to move faster while her eyes darted around the room looking for her clothes. The hotel she booked earlier to gain sanity now feels like a prison with walls closing in. She quickly wore her clothes and grabbed her purse with her car keys. her instincts kept screaming at her to get out quickly.
As she reached the door, a shadow moved across the window. She froze immediately with a hitching breath.
Was someone outside? She asked herself
She peered through the window with her heart pounding.
Immediately, she saw a black car parked in the driveway and a figure approaching the hotel reception.
Her phone buzzed again, and she glanced at the screen.
“He's here”
Panic surged through her. She tries to move away from the door with her mind racing. She needed to hide somewhere before whoever was outside got in.
Suddenly She heard the sound of the doorknob rattling. She darted towards the bathroom immediately, breathing shallowly and her heart racing.
The door creaked open, and heavy Footsteps echoed through the entry.
She heard the Footsteps coming in the direction where she was hiding. Before she could react ,her phone buzzed again one last time.
The message reads :
“don't let him see you, or you're dead!!”
Roselyn pulse thundered in her ears, her trembling hands gripping the edge of the sink for balance. The message on her phone screen was still on display, and the words echoed in her mind: "Don't let him see you or you're dead!”
She turned off her phone screen to prevent the glow from exposing her hideout. Her breath was shaky and uneven, her body jolted with terror, and she wasn't ready to die.
The footsteps grew louder, deliberate, and unhurried. She knew that whoever was out there wasn't in a rush, but they were confident and calculating.
She squeezed her eyes shut for a moment, trying to reassure herself to stay calm and that all would be OK. But her thoughts weren't helping, it sRoselyn was shocked just by reading the words on her phone screen, it sent chills down her spine, her pulse quickened as she read the text again:
