Episode 6: Botulinum Toxin (C6760 H10447 N1743 O2010 S32)

    Maybe. Maybe coming to the lab in the first period was a blessing by a God if there was one. It was the lecture that reminded Hermes of one solution to the extinction of humanity.

"Now, students. Beware of this chemical: Botulinum Toxin, this is made up of CHNOS, with..." the lecturer started with her lecture in the lab.

    It was then. He remembered what the monster's weakness was.

    To classify, there were three types of monsters: Class C, Class B, and the one and only Class A. Among them, Class A was the leader of the group, and we referred to it as the Savage. In the last quarter of the war, Hermes found out that Class C monsters stop reacting when inserted with Botulinum Toxin; however, that discovery was not that result-changing. Humanity was already out of forces, and Class B and A were dominating.

"Things are different now. Botulinum Toxin. Class C-cure. We can find the rest when as we go on." Hermes murmured.

    Although Hermes was glad to find the cure for Class C monster type destruction in the pre-war time, Peter, Diana, and Mel had no idea of what Hermes was thinking. It made them nervous and afraid.

"Is he normal?" Mel asked Peter and Diana.

"Hmph... I think he just has a specific thing in his mind that we don't understand," Peter sighed, "Let's just wait until he tells us what it is, or maybe he won't if it doesn't relate to us, anyways."

"I guess so," Diana and Mel both agreed.

    It was somehow frustrating, though, for Diana to see sudden smiles and quick emotional changes of Hermes in between lectures and classes. He was not definitely normal in the eyes of Diana. To Diana, who was full of curiosity, she couldn't hold back any longer.

"Hey, Hermes, quick question." Diana quickly asked.

"Yeah, Diana?" Hermes replied.

"You know... it's bizarre that you keep smiling suddenly, and your emotions... just come and by without any prior notice or reason... Is there something that you are troubled or happy about?" Diana sincerely asked.

    Only then Hermes was able to find out that his actions might have looked awkward to many people, not to mention Diana, but also Peter and Mel. It was necessary to tell them but now was not the time. Hermes did not want to involve them as early as now in the first place, and it would sound weird if he told them directly about the extinction in the near future, that is, by monsters which did not even exist or arrive yet.

"Diana, I know I might look really weird and abnormal, but I'm completely sane. Whatever I think or act at this moment, it will sound weird and unreasonable to many people, but when the time comes, I will tell you and the others, I promise." Hermes replied with a true look, holding the hands of Diana to request for trust.

"Oka... Okay. I understand.." Diana answered with her face blushing, looking down at the floor while answering.
