The sunlight that assaulted her senses made Pax grimace. Disoriented, she sat forward, her head spinning. She scrambled to her feet and swiped the sand off her dress, wincing at the sun in the soft pink horizon. There was no time to waste. She raised an arm to point at the sun, then carefully pivoted on her heel, lowering her arm until it was parallel with the wall. She wasn’t sure if she had done that correctly, but she didn’t have time to think about it. She needed to get on the other side of the wall as soon as possible. She sprinted toward the wall as fast as her body would allow, grateful for remembering to wear Dinah’s shoes before she went to sleep. But of course, Pax remembered, she hadn’t really been asleep.
