CHAPTER SEVEN

KATARINA After a short drive, I arrive at the pack house. My heart races as I step out of the car. The weight of the upcoming meeting presses down on me. Seeing the Alpha and Luna in person always makes me anxious, knowing I'm about to break their hearts. I take a deep breath, steadying my nerves before walking through the doors. Roman and I don't live in the pack house; we have our own place at the edge of the territory. Roman insisted on it, craving the peace and privacy it offers. But honestly, I believe it's a load of crock. The so-called peace and privacy are just excuses to avoid dealing with being with me around the pack members and staying away from his father. As I walk through the doors, I remind myself that this decision was for the best, even though it makes moments like this even harder. As I walk inside, I see omegas cleaning up after lunch and a few warriors sitting around talking in hushed tones. Their conversations cease as they notice my entrance, and a heavy silence fills the room. I nod in acknowledgment and continue down the hallway, towards Alpha's office. His door is open, and I can see Alpha intently reviewing some paperwork on his desk. He doesn't notice me immediately, giving me a moment to gather my thoughts. Finally, I clear my throat softly, and he looks up, greeting me with a warm smile. "Please come in. What brings you to my office today?" he says, setting the papers aside. "Good afternoon, Alpha Lewis," I respond, trying to keep my voice steady. "I have something important to discuss with you." His warm smile fades slightly, replaced by a look of concern as he gestures for me to take a seat. "Of course," he says, leaning back in his chair. "What is it that you need to discuss?" I hesitate for a moment, then take a deep breath. "It's about Roman. There's something you need to know." Alpha Lewis's eyes narrow slightly, and he leans forward. "Has Roman been mean to you again?" he asks, his voice filled with protective concern. "If he has, I will have a word with him. You know he can't keep treating you this way." I quickly shake my head, trying to dispel his worry. "No, Alpha, it's not that," I assure him, my voice trembling slightly. "Roman and I have decided to divorce." Alpha Lewis's eyes widen in shock, and he grips the edge of his desk as if to steady himself. "Divorced?" he repeats, the disbelief evident in his tone. "I never imagined it would come to this. Are you sure this is what you both want?" Alpha Lewis's face contorts with a mix of shock and sorrow, his usually composed demeanor faltering. He runs a hand through his hair, eyes searching mine for any hint of hesitation. "I just can't believe it," he murmurs, almost to himself. I nod slowly, feeling the weight of the decision settles in my chest. "It's been a difficult choice, but it's the right one for both of us," I say, my voice barely above a whisper. "Staying together would only cause more pain." Tears well up in my eyes as I continue, "Alpha, you and Luna have always treated me like a daughter, and I can't thank you enough for that. This is painful for me too, but I believe it's for the best." His expression softens, and he reaches across the desk to grasp my hand, offering a silent but comforting presence. "Is Luna here today?" I ask, wiping away a stray tear. "I would like to dissolve my pack connection as well." Alpha Lewis’s face falls even further, but he nods understandingly. "She is in her office. I'll take you to her," he says gently, standing up and offering his hand to help me rise. Dissolving my pack connection means severing the deep, spiritual bond that ties me to this community. It signifies a complete break from the life I have known, allowing me to start anew elsewhere. This decision is not made lightly, as it involves leaving behind not just friends and family, but also the sense of belonging and identity the pack provides. As I walk to Luna's office, a whirlwind of emotions churns within me. Each step feels heavier than the last, a mixture of sorrow, fear, and a glimmer of hope for the future. The hallways that once felt like home now seem foreign and distant, amplifying the ache in my heart. Arriving at her office, Alpha Lewis knocks softly on the door, the sound echoing in the silence. Luna's voice invites us in, and as we step inside, her eyes meet mine with a mixture of concern and understanding. She rises from her chair, crossing the room to envelop me in a warm, comforting embrace. "It's okay, my dear," she whispers, her voice soothing against my ear. "Alpha Lewis mind-linked me about your decision. We both understand how hard this is for you." I nod, feeling a sense of relief that they are both so supportive, even in such a difficult moment. I melt into Luna Dianna's embrace, seeking much-needed comfort in her familiar warmth. Her hand gently strokes my back, and for a moment, the overwhelming emotions seem bearable. "We will always be here for you," she whispers softly, her voice filled with unwavering support and love. "Thank you, Luna," I say, my voice trembling. "I need to officially dissolve my pack connection." Luna pulls back slightly, her eyes searching mine. "Are you certain this is what you want?" she asks, her tone gentle yet firm. "Yes, I am," I reply, though my voice quivers with uncertainty. "I understand that this means losing the pack's protection and support, and that I will be vulnerable and alone in many ways. But I believe this is the path I need." "Thank you both for every kindness you have shown me over the years," I say, my voice filled with genuine gratitude. "I will always cherish the memories and the lessons I’ve learned here." Alpha Lewis nods solemnly, placing a reassuring hand on my shoulder. Luna Dianna's eyes soften further, and she gives a small, knowing smile. "I know how much you love Roman," she says gently, "and I understand that this decision is partly because of him." My heart tightens at the mention of Roman, and I nod, tears welling up in my eyes. "I love him so much," I confess, my voice breaking, "that I'm willing to give him up if it means he will finally find happiness." Luna Dianna's grip tightens around me, offering silent but powerful support. "Sometimes true love means making the hardest sacrifices," she whispers, her eyes reflecting my own sorrow. Alpha Lewis sighs deeply, his expression tinged with regret. "I wish things could have worked out differently, as I had hoped," he admits, his voice heavy with emotion. "But this is what Roman has wanted the entirety of our marriage," I continue, my voice barely above a whisper. "I can't hold him back any longer, even if it means breaking my own heart." Luna Dianna and Alpha Lewis exchange a glance, their faces etched with understanding and sorrow. We are so lost in our conversation that we don't hear Roman standing at the door, laughing softly. "You've always been the dramatic one," he says, amusement twinkling in his eyes.
