Everything's Fine

The next couple weeks Bridget focused on getting the trailer decorated and trying to make it feel like home. Dallas started his new job. Everything started to fall in to place. Bridget accepted that this was her new home and worked hard toward making it perfect. Dallas made friends with the neighbors quickly. He was always a social butterfly. As Dallas returned home from work one evening, Bridget was in the kitchen making dinner. "Bridget baby, the neighbor asked if we want to grill tomorrow. I told him I would pick up a little beer if thats ok." Bridget stopped and stared at her husband, "I thought we agreed you werent going to drink anymore." He sat on a barstool at the counter and slipped off his boots, "I can control myself. I won't drink anything more than a 6 pack, and when you say it's enough then I am done." Bridget sighed and rolled her eyes, "you know this always ends bad. You're an alcoholic, you cant control it." Dallas huffed as he stood up, "I am a 38 year old man. If I want a beer, I am going to have a beer!" Bridget shook her head disapprovingly, "if you say so. Just don't let it get out of control again, that is all I ask." The next morning Bridget woke up and got herself ready for work. Dallas was in the kitchen as she walked in and he handed her a cup of coffee made perfectly with her peppermint mocha creamer. "Baby, when you get home from work we have to go to the neighbors for the cook out." She rolled her eyes and sat down her cup. "Everything in moderation. Please." Dallas leaned in and kissed her cheek, "I promise baby. I won't lose myself again." Bridget picked up her purse and kissed Dallas "I really hope you're right hun, I gotta go. I will see you later." Work seemed to drag that day, as she sat and dreaded the evening to come. Her over thinking mind had convinced her that everything bad was going to happen. She couldnt wait to get home so she could put her mind at a little ease, she needed to see that he was sober. Bridget walked in the front door and smiled, the house was clean, the kids were playing in their rooms and her husband was on the couch watching tv. "Thank god" she thought to herself as she went to go sit by Dallas on the couch. He leaned over and kissed her "Welcome home. Go change out of those scrubs so we can go next door, the neighbor has been blowing my phone up for the last 3 hours asking when you were getting home." Bridget changed into shorts and a tank top and gathered the kids to go next door. As social as her husband was, she was not. She didnt like crowds of people and being around strangers. she always hated small talk but she suffered through because at least the kids were making friends. The cookout was pretty standard. Hotdogs. Hamburgers. Potato salad. Smores for the kids. Bridget sat and watched her husband, counting the beer that he drank trying to convince herself that it would all be ok. At the end of the night Bridget and her family headed back home, she put the kids to bed and then headed that way herself. Dallas was sitting on their bed already when she walked in "I told you I could control it. 6 beers. I'm fine." Bridget climbed into bed and laid her head down. "Yep, youre fine. Everything's fine."
