Lucifer Laurens
I drove again after my short nap and by the time we arrive, it was late into the afternoon. I parked at the back of the building. The three kids were asleep, I get out my phone and call the number again. To think I could've been getting these resources a while ago. This really takes a bit of pressure off of us for a while.
"Hello?" I hear the familiar voice. She sounded tired, I regret worrying her so much. It wasn't like I did it on purpose. Not entirely at least.
"Hey, Ms. Lee? It's Lucifer. I'm outside," I said.
"Perfect! I'll see you soon. Just meet me at the door," she said and hung up. I looked at the three sleeping bundles and roll down the windows a bit. I'm sure they'll be fine. I locked the car and headed to the door. The door opens and I see the lovely Asian secretary. She wore a simple blue dress and had an apron on. She smiled her eyes watering. Everyone seems so emotional as of late.
"Lucifer! You're alright!" She said and ran to hug me. I stubbled and felt the burning pain in my leg. I somewhat hug her back but she held my arms down.
"Ow, hi Ms. Lee," I said. She apologized profusely and leads me inside. The inside was like a soup kitchen, with a few tables, and people eating. She had a box of food and placed it on the table.
"I don't know how you've been getting food in those conditions but from now on every month you'll get a box of food and any other resources you need. All you have to do is call. It's just you right?" She asked. I smiled and shook my head.
"Actually it's four of us. I have a house a bit far from here and I usually work at the mill. I got laid off about four months ago so we're using Will's check. Everyone else is in school and I'm still injured," I admit. She gave me a concerned look and nodded. Suprise adoption isn't something I need to be doing at the moment. It's not helping us in any way.
"Every week you will get a few boxes sent to your house. Just fill this stuff out and I'll put a few of these in your car," Ms Lee patted my shoulder, and she went to grab the paperwork. Ms Lee came back with the papers and a pen. I flexed my hand in the plaster. I am not gonna get a job at this rate. I took the papers and get started as she took the boxes filled with food. I sighed sitting at a table. So much work just to eat some damn veggies and get milk. Once halfway, Ms Lee sat in front of me. I tried not to pay so much attention to the pitiful looks I get from her and others around me. They're f*****g homeless or worst off, pity yourselves. I sighed and looked up. She's begging to ask something.
"Can I ask something personal?" She asked. She's great, young, and quiet. But damn it Ms Lee I don't want to be interogated.
"Uh okay?" I said printing my name and date for the one-hundredth time.
"How long was he hurting you?" She asked. The others around glance at me. I ran a hand through my hair. I don't need the spotlight. Sure as hell don't want the rest of these bums to know my business, but it's not a secret. I'm sure the whole town knows about Frank's tendencies to shove his d**k in places he's not supposed to.
"I was three when he first hurt me. I was five when he touched me. I was fourteen when I left," I smiled remembering how free I felt the moment I could sleep with an open bedroom door or wandering around my home without looking over my shoulder. She gasped and gets up to hug me.
"I'm so so sorry," she said. Apologise? Apologise for acting too late. I don't want to say anything I don't mean. I finished the work trying not to talk as much because I'm tired and equally in pain. I hand her the stuff and go to the car. I grabbed a cigarette from my case and lit it. A long drag. I open the boot and found four large boxes of food. Good, now I can have food if Mikasa comes over or the others. Ms Lee pat my shoulder before going back to work in her soup kitchen. My phone goes off. I answer confused.
"Hello?" I answer.
"Murder is illegal right?" Will said. He's desperate to have to ask a stupid question. I can hear the commotion in the background.
"Can't handle a few kids?" I chuckled bringing the cig to my lips.
"I need a drink. Let's meet at the Hell Storm campout. Marceline loves you so she'll be okay with it," Will said, I can hear him scolding Tony, Sam, and Jaime. I wonder what they were doing. All Will was doing was running errands!
"She hates you though? How far are you from the city? I'm on the outskirts. We can stay at the motel I passed. It's Tonio's, I think," I told him. I took a long drag and blew a ring.
"Meet you there in thirty," he hung up. I close the boot and get in the driver's seat. I made my way to the motel. Another f*****g hour's drive. Mikasa was awake now.
"Lucy. I've been meaning to tell you this... I got a girlfriend. She's sweet, her name is Amber Collins," she said softly. I look at her through the mirror.
"She treats you well?" I asked looking back at the road. I saw that same dreamy look in her eyes. Mikasa was quite the dreamer.
"Like a queen," she giggled.
"Let me meet her and I'll see. But that's wonderful you have someone," I said. She nod and cried.
"Thank you, Lucy," she wiped her eyes and looked out the window. I play the radio trying to keep myself awake. Sometimes everyone is too emotional, I wonder how's Will holding up.
