Amelia heard her name. Far away. Then again. Closer this time. Her eyelids felt impossibly heavy. She tried to open them. Nothing happened. There was darkness everywhere. Not the darkness of a room. This felt deeper. Older. She couldn't feel the ground beneath her. She couldn't feel her hands. She couldn't even tell whether she was breathing. Then something brushed against her fingers. Warm. Familiar. She held onto it. The darkness shifted. A heartbeat sounded. Then another. Slow. Steady. Human. She followed the sound. Light appeared ahead. A tiny silver glow. She moved toward it. The glow became brighter. A woman's silhouette appeared. Long hair. A pale face. A familiar pair of eyes. Her mother. Amelia stopped. Her mother smiled. "You found me." Amelia
