CHAPTER 9

As Mira’s thoughts spun with questions—how could she possibly survive in Hell when no other human could?—a sharp, thunderous sound cut through the silence. The unmistakable blare of a horn echoed from the distance, growing louder with every heartbeat. Ashen’s eyes widened. “The demon soldiers. They’re coming.” Mira’s panic flared. “What are we going to do? We can’t fight all of them!” Asmodeus reacted instantly. He reached for both Mira and Ashen, his voice low and urgent: “Hold on to me. Now.” Before Mira could draw another breath, the world twisted around her in a blur of shadows and fire. The oppressive heat, the flicker of blue flames, the very air shifted—and in the blink of an eye, they were gone from Ashen’s home. They reappeared in a new, unfamiliar space: Asmodeus’s house, hidden deep within the labyrinth of Hell. The walls here pulsed with a strange, protective magic. For the moment, they were safe—but the danger had only grown closer, and the secrets of Mira’s past felt more important than ever. Asmodeus looked at Mira with a knowing smirk and shook his head in disbelief. “Yeah… she is anything but normal. Teleporting a human into my home should have knocked you out cold—or worse. Most mortals can’t survive a shift like that without serious consequences.” Mira, breathless but alert, glanced between the two demons, the reality of her survival settling heavily on her shoulders. Ashen reached out to steady her, his worry now laced with awe. Asmodeus’s gaze softened just a bit. “We need to find out your history, Mira. There’s something in your blood—something old, something powerful. It’s the only explanation.” He turned to Ashen. “We’ll need to find someone who can uncover bloodlines and ancient ties. Hell’s secrets run deep, but if we want to keep her safe from Lucifer and the others, we have to know the truth.” Mira nodded slowly, realization dawning in her eyes. For the first time, she understood that her past might hold the key to her future—and perhaps the fate of everyone around her. Ashen glanced between Mira and Asmodeus, determination settling in his eyes. “There’s one demon who might be able to help us,” he said quietly. “Lilith. She’s powerful—and ancient. More importantly, she’s well-versed in blood magic and the secrets of ancestry. If anyone can uncover the truth about Mira’s lineage, it’s her.” Asmodeus arched an eyebrow, the suggestion clearly impressing him. “Lilith won’t be easy to find, and she’s even harder to bargain with. But you’re right, Ashen—if we want answers, she’s our best chance.” Mira’s heart pounded at the thought. She’d heard Ashen mention Lilith only once before, always with a mixture of respect and caution. “Will she help us?” she asked softly. Ashen squeezed her hand, offering reassurance. “If we’re careful and honest about what we need… she just might. But we’ll have to be ready for anything.” The decision made, the three of them prepared for the next step of their journey—knowing that seeking out Lilith could bring both the answers they needed and dangers they’d never imagined. Ashen turned to Asmodeus, his expression serious. “If we’re going to find Lilith, we can’t just wander Hell asking questions. Who can we trust to help us reach her?” Asmodeus considered for a moment, his gaze distant as he weighed their few options. “Trust is rare in this place, but there are a handful who owe me favors—or at least respect my word. There’s Valak, a demon guide who knows the hidden paths and keeps his mouth shut for the right cause. And Zepar, who’s skilled at tracking and has crossed paths with Lilith before.” He leaned in, lowering his voice. “But we have to be careful. Word travels fast, and if Lucifer’s spies catch wind of what we’re after, it could be over for all of us.” Mira listened intently, understanding the gravity of their next move. Ashen nodded. “Then Valak and Zepar. We reach out to them—quietly. We can’t afford to make a single wrong step.” The group’s resolve was strengthened. With the plan in place, they knew the search for Lilith would test every ounce of their trust, cunning, and courage.
