Chapter 34

Laura also had a clear view of Dawn’s shoulder. Laura screamed and stomped down the stairs. Mark ran into the room. He made sure Laura knew he was there. “She slept with Patrick!” Laura screamed. “We didn’t sleep together Laura!” Patrick shouted. Laura was distraught, but Mark was finding this funny. He was surprised that Dawn knew how to hurt her back without physically hurting her. “You gave her a hickey!” Laura screamed. “Trust me, it wasn’t me.” Patrick said. “JESSIE!” Laura screamed. Laura ran at Dawn. “I didn’t have s*x with anyone.” Dawn replied with a smirk. Laura was close to her but Patrick stood up and held her back. “You f****d Jessie! He’s mine!” Laura screamed. “Laura, Jessie doesn’t want to date you. He told us.” Dawn said. Laura was on the verge of crying. “Your lying!” Laura screamed. Laura was fighting against Patrick’s arms. “She’s not lying. Jessie even told me you asked him out when you know you aren’t allowed to date until your 17.” Mark said. “He’s waiting for me.” Laura said. Her tone at Mark was making him angry. Dawn stood up and approached Laura a little, closing the gap. “Laura, you can’t tell people to stay away from someone who isn’t even interested in you romantically. Jessie admitted his feelings for me. Yesterday at the party we kissed. Mark knows about it, ask him if you don’t believe me.” Dawn said bluntly. Laura looked at her dad. “They did. Jessie was open about it. They held hands while eating and everything.” Mark said. “But he’s mine!” Laura cried. “He’s not yours Laura! Jessie is capable of choosing who he wants to be with. He chose that it wasn’t you. So, accept that and move on. Right now, the only person bothered by this is you. So just grow up, shut up, compose yourself like you should. You’re acting like a spoilt brat and quite frankly it’s annoying.” Dawn said. Dawn spoke with attitude and left everyone silent for a moment. “I hate you Dawn, I wish I never met you. You’re just a slut and you always will be.” Laura cried. Patrick pushed Laura to the ground. “Speak ill of her again to us, herself or anyone else and I will f*****g hurt you. You are behaving like a spoiled brat, a stupid b***h. I can’t believe I was so blind to it before. No wonder none of my friends want to hang out when it’s just you with us. They can’t tolerate your shit.” Patrick said. Laura cried and looked at Mark. “Laura, go to your room. You can come back downstairs when you calm down.” Mark said. “No! Dawn should go to her room! She slept with Jessie!” Laura cried. “I swear you are seriously pissing me off. Do you not listen?” Patrick asked. Patrick grabbed her arm roughly and dragged her up the stairs to her room. He threw her into the room and shut the door behind her. Patrick stormed down the stairs and looked at his dad. “Got a problem with that?” Patrick asked. “Don’t give me that tone. I was about to do the same thing.” Mark said. Mark walked away. Dawn hugged Mark then hugged Patrick. Dawn then sat with Patrick again. Patrick’s phone was in his pocket and was vibrating. Dawn laughed as it vibrated against her hip. Patrick looked embarrassed as he answered it. “Hey Jessie.” Patrick said. Dawn raised an eyebrow at Patrick. “How was your secret sleepover?” Patrick whispered. It was quiet for a moment. Dawn raised her eyebrow. “Don’t worry, I won’t tell. When are you coming over? You missed a hectic morning. Dawn gave herself a hickey to piss off Laura and it worked. Laura came screaming at her like a rabid dog going for the kill.” Patrick said. Dawn started to walk away but heard Patrick click his fingers and turned to see him gesture Dawn to come back. “She’s okay, she is right here. I will put her on.” Patrick said. Dawn gulped and walked over slowly. “Jelly.” Dawn said. “You didn’t answer my calls.” Jessie said. “My phone is upstairs in my room. You know it is always there until after breakfast.” Dawn said. “I was calling to see if you wanted to hang out today.” Jessie said. “Where?” Dawn asked. “Ice skating.” Jessie said. “Who else will be there?” Dawn asked. “No one, just us.” Jessie said. “You mean like a date?” Dawn asked. “Yes, like a date. Will you go on a date with me?” Jessie asked. “I would love to, but given the recent behaviour from Laura, I think it’s probably best we don’t. Or we pretend to be mad at each other in person and just sneak around for a bit.” Dawn said softly. “What I am hearing, is if it’s a secret date you might.” Jessie said with a cheeky tone. Dawn chuckled and Jessie knew she was blushing. “If it’s a secret.” Dawn said. “Can you put Patrick back on please, sunshine?” Jessie asked. “Yes Jelly.” Dawn said. Dawn handed the phone to Patrick. “Hey again.” Patrick said. Dawn was blushing and looking at her toes on the fluffy rug. “Haha, yeah, she is. Yeah, I can help you with that.” Patrick said. Dawn looked up confused. “What time?” Patrick asked. Dawn noticed Mark walking close to them. “Hello Mark.” Dawn said. Patrick looked back and waved at his dad. “Okay, I will see you later. I will bring Dawn so she can get out of the house.” Patrick said. Patrick hung up. He got up and saw his dad looking confused at him. “Hey dad. Jessie is going to hang out at the carnival with me later. I am going to go and take Dawn to get her out of the house, away from Laura.” Patrick said. Mark nodded. “Breakfast is ready. Can you get Laura for me Patrick?” Mark asked. Patrick nodded. Dawn walked to the table as he served the plates. The spot next to her was vacant. Mark noticed her looking at it as he grabbed juice from the fridge. “He’ll be back one day.” Mark said. “He needs to finish college first.” Dawn said. “What are your plans for when you finish college?” Mark asked. “Honestly, just pass high school. Then maybe do journalism, law enforcement or something thrilling. I have an idea on a couple colleges already. But I doubt I can go to any Ivy League ones.” Dawn said. “No matter what one it is, I will pay.” Mark said. “That’s asking way too much.” Dawn said. “I already decided. So just accept it and move on.” Mark said. Dawn hesitated and nodded. “Good girl, don’t argue with elders.” Mark joked. Dawn laughed.
