My Dawn

Chapter 35

Patrick walked in and sat in his seat with Laura next to him, Laura was opposite Dawn.

“Dawn has a few good ideas for after school. You should be more like her Patrick.” Mark said.

Mark laughed as Dawn looked down nervously playing with her plate of eggs and bacon, with toast and sausages.

“Let’s skip the conversation.” Dawn said softly.

“If you wish. Just do the research and let me know.” Mark said.

Dawn nodded. Mark started to dig in with Patrick as Laura just stared at Dawn with an evil eye.

“What time are you both leaving later?” Mark asked.

“In an hour.” Patrick said.

Dawn’s eyes opened wide. Laura noticed it.

“Well, if you need any money for Dawn, let me know.” Mark said.

“I don’t need anything.” Dawn said.

“I have it covered, but Jessie also offered to help if we are low on cash. His dad raised his allowance again. He claims he’s saving to buy a good car.” Patrick said.

Laura looked at Patrick and then Mark. She kicked Dawn from under the table.

“Laura, don’t kick me.” Dawn said.

Dawn got up and stormed to her room. Dawn heard the sound of glass smashing as she slammed her bedroom door shut.

“You were warned.” Mark said.

Mark kicked Laura’s chair backwards and made her fall while she was holding a glass. The glass shattered.

“Tell Jessie you might be later, let him know how Laura has been treating Dawn.” Mark said.

“Dawn already told him about last night’s incident. But I will call him now.” Patrick said.

Patrick got up and called Jessie as he walked away from the dining room.

“Jessie, get here. Dawn just got hurt from Laura again.” Patrick said.

Jessie hung up and Patrick knew it meant he was angry.

Patrick turned around with wide eyes.

“Laura you should hide. Jessie was that angry, that he didn’t say a thing.” Patrick said.

Mark kept eating his breakfast ignoring Laura crying about being hurt. Patrick sat down and ignored her. By the time the two finished eating, there was a knock on the door.

“He can do what he wants, she doesn’t listen when I discipline her.” Mark said.

“You’d let him hurt me?” Laura asked.

Laura was crying.

“You hurt Dawn again, you keep hurting Dawn. You deserve what’s coming.” Mark said.

Laura cried and got up to run away to hide. Patrick opened the door.

“Dad said you can discipline Laura, she isn’t listening when he does it.” Patrick said.

“With all due respect, you do it. Dawn’s my concern.” Jessie said.

Jessie ran up the stairs to Dawn’s room and knocked on the door. There was no answer, he opened it to find Dawn in the wardrobe crying.

Jessie locked the door behind him. The sounds of screaming and hitting was happening behind him. Patrick was hitting Laura four times with a belt. He did as his dad instructed.

Jessie sat next to Dawn and wrapped his arms around her. Dawn cuddled into Jessie as she cried. Her face was forming a bruise as well as around her neck from the night before.

Jessie saw a red mark near Dawn’s shin. He lifted her legs and carried her to her bed. He held her as she cried.

“Come on sunshine, it’s not supposed to rain with you.” Jessie joked softly.

Dawn chuckled as she wiped her tears.

“What happened?” Jessie asked.

“Laura heard we were hanging out with you and she just kicked me. I didn’t say anything to encourage it and she kicked me.” Dawn cried.

“Look, I think it’s clear she doesn’t want to be your friend anymore. How about we ignore her from now on?” Jessie asked.

Dawn nodded. She hugged Jessie.

“Why do you keep getting through my guard.” Dawn said.

“Your guard?” Jessie asked.

“You are the only one that I disclose everything to. I try to keep everything to myself. But with you I can’t help it. I tell you everything.” Dawn said softly.

“I think it’s because you know I will never intentionally hurt you.” Jessie said.

Dawn nodded.

“Now come on, you’re not wearing that. It looks like you have no pants. You go get dressed then we will get you something to eat when we are out.” Jessie said softly.

Dawn nodded and kissed him. Jessie kissed her back then stood up.

Jessie picked Dawn up and carried her to her wardrobe. Dawn grabbed a dress, Jessie put it back on the rack.

“That doesn’t cover your ass, pick something else to wear.” Jessie said.

Dawn laughed at his face, he looked jealous. His hand slid to her butt to hold her as she used two hands moving the hangers looking for something to wear. She pulled out a knee length dress and a pair of knee length tights. Jessie nodded approvingly and made Dawn laugh.

Jessie unlocked Dawn’s door and carried her in his arms to the bathroom for her to change. Laura was crying as she watched Jessie holding Dawn. Mark and Patrick watched them.

They were both happy but curious what he was doing. Jessie opened the bathroom door and put Dawn on the counter in the bathroom. He handed her the clothes and then shut the door. They watched Jessie pull his phone out and look like he was typing.

[I told Dawn that Laura made it clear she doesn’t want to be Dawn’s friend anymore. So, I told Dawn I will ignore Laura from here on out until Laura mends things.] – Jessie texted.

Patrick got the text and showed his dad. They nodded in agreement.

The bathroom door opened and Jessie picked Dawn up while she tried walking past him. He carried her to her room and sat her on her bed.

Jessie left the door open and grabbed her hair brush and started brushing her hair for her. Mark and Patrick came up quietly and slowly to watch.

Jessie was sitting behind Dawn on her bed, Dawn still wiped a few tears away but he was taking care of her.

“Do you want a ponytail? Or a bun?” Jessie asked.

“A ponytail braid please.” Dawn said.

Jessie laughed. He reached her bedside and grabbed some hair ties to do her hair.

“I will miss you when you go.” Dawn said.

“I’ll be back whenever I can.” Jessie said.

“I know, but then if I go to college, I can’t see you until I finish.” Dawn said.

Jessie froze and hugged Dawn.

“You’re worth the wait. Also, I messed up the hair. I need the brush again.” Jessie said.

Dawn laughed and handed the brush back to Jessie. Jessie brushed her hair again and tried again. He followed Dawn’s instructions on how to do it and eventually did it.
