Chapter 32

Dawn pulled out her phone and called Jessie repeatedly, ringing through a few times so she tried again and again until he finally answered. “What Dawn?” Jessie asked. Trying to sound like he wasn’t upset. “We need to talk.” Dawn cried. “No, we really don’t.” Jessie said. “You left, they don’t know why and I just got hit for it.” Dawn cried. Dawn heard the brakes get slammed and a screech in the background. She heard a few car horns honk as his car started indicating before the brakes squealed and he quickly turned around. “Who hit you?” Jessie asked. “That’s beside the point. We need to talk, the next time this happens I need to know why you left. That way I can at least have an answer to give them.” Dawn cried. “I’m coming back. Meet me out front.” Jessie said. “I’m not leaving my room. Right now, I have the door locked in case someone else is angry.” Dawn cried. “I’ll figure something out.” Jessie said. Jessie was about to say something else, but then he heard Dawn sniffling away from the phone. “Dawn, are you okay?” Jessie asked softly. “Yes.” Dawn cried. She sounded broken. It was hurting Jessie to hear her cry. “I’m coming back. I’m not far away. We will talk.” Jessie said. “Okay.” Dawn cried. Dawn hung up the phone and put it on charge and on silent. Dawn looked at her reflection and saw her cheek turning dark red. Dawn grabbed the briefcase and the envelope, she moved them to her wardrobe. Dawn turned off her bedroom light then Dawn went to sit on her bed. After a while she saw a figure creeping into her window slowly. Dawn watched closely as she sniffled. Jessie closed the window in case other windows were open. He walked towards her bed. “Let’s talk.” Jessie whispered. “Jelly.” Dawn said. He turned her lamp on, he looked at her neck and her face. “Who hit you?” Jessie asked. “First, why did you leave?” Dawn asked. Jessie looked down then looked at Dawn again. “I realised Mr Bridge was right. I will hurt you when I leave, but I would only be leaving for a better education. But it isn’t fair on you. And you would most likely not trust me anymore. The reason I didn’t mention college was because I wasn’t sure which one yet. I am still in the research stage.” Jessie said softly. Dawn looked down as she cried. “Now tell me what happened.” Jessie said. “Laura came in screaming that you left because of me. She said you packed because of me. Then I stated that I didn’t even say a word when I returned. I have a reason why I didn’t. But she didn’t know that. And then I said how I heard what she said on the phone last night. Claiming I was after her man. I was not after her man. She claims you’re her man and she was telling everyone. But then I pissed her off.” Dawn said. “How did you piss her off?” Jessie asked. “I said if I didn’t speak, and you left because of that. Doesn’t that show that you were there for me. I knew it would be mean to say but I felt like I needed to release the anger I was holding. Then she hit me. She hit me really hard.” Dawn said. Jessie hugged Dawn and laid down next to her as he hugged her. “What was your reason for not speaking?” Jessie asked. “I met my godfather, he gave me photos of my parents. He gave me a letter to read that was written for me in case they died. I was about to read it but that’s when Laura came in. And I received a briefcase that I never got to open. I was happy to know things about my family. That I have literally both my parent’s eyes. That’s why they are different. That they made a club, they were in every extracurricular activity. Mr Purkles was in their club. He loved my mother. And they saved him from bullies when he first went to school. They stuck around but he has no technology. He recognised me as a younger version of my mother. And that’s why he took me to his to talk to me.” Dawn said softly. Jessie was playing with her hair as she rested her head on his arm. “That’s a lot to learn.” Jessie said softly. “Also, the dress was slightly a bit too tight after I ate. I needed to change. But I was happy because now I have photos of them.” Dawn said. Dawn grabbed the photo of the BTL written on their hands. With the fancy outfits as they posed in the photo. Jessie was about to ask her about the BTL but Dawn spoke. “Apparently, I am like my mother. She tries to help others by putting herself in harm’s way. She had a motto.” Dawn started to explain. Jessie wiped Dawn’s tears as she laid against him. “Always be the light in other people’s darkness.” Dawn said. “You’re light, you’re a sunshine.” Jessie said. Dawn looked up at Jessie. He looked at her closely. “I’m sorry I made you run out. Mark had no right telling you about a private conversation. I was upset but I still trust you. I only agreed because Mr Purkles towers over me and yelled I was too young to like people.” Dawn said. Jessie chuckled quietly. “Please don’t stay away.” Dawn said softly. Dawn wrapped her arm around Jessie. “I promise, I will be here whenever I can. After I go to college, every break or holiday, I will visit if I don’t have to study.” Jessie said. Dawn nodded. “Thank you.” Dawn said softly. Jessie pulled her closer. They held each other until they ended up falling asleep. Jessie kept his arms draped around her. Dawn woke up to Jessie resting his chin on her shoulder. They were so close, she wanted to kiss him at least once more in case he changed his mind. Dawn leaned herself backwards slightly. Jessie tightened his hands which pulled her to him. She kissed him at the same time. Jessie took a moment before he returned the kiss. He kissed her repeatedly with one of his hands trailing up to her face. Dawn climbed onto him and leaned down. She whispered into his ear as she grabbed his wrists to hold down. “Looks like I can still pin you down.” Dawn whispered. Jessie wiggles his wrists free. He moved his arms to her waist. Dawn was visibly blushing and Jessie thought it was cute. “You can pin me down. As long as it’s only you and me.” Jessie mumbled. Dawn giggled and leaned down to kiss Jessie. A knock appeared on her door. “Dawn, you shut your window. Hawkeye is out here and freezing.” Mark said. Dawn looked scared. She got up and pushed Jessie into her wardrobe with his shoes before shutting the wardrobe door. Jessie tried to not laugh. She walked to the door and opened it. “Sorry Mark, it was cold last night. I thought he was in the room.” Dawn said. “Just make sure he is inside tonight. Weather app said tonight is going to be colder. Come down when you are ready.” Mark said. Hawkeye came flying to Dawn’s shoulder. “How’s your neck and cheek?” Mark asked. “I’ll be okay. Kind of want to ask someone to give me a hickey to make her angry. I can reach my shoulder when I turn my head so I can probably do it myself.” Dawn said. Mark sighed.
