Chapter 47

As time went on, Dawn slowly started getting back to normal. Jessie practically lived there, helping carry Dawn up the stairs because Wendy said no stairs. Dawn was feeling sad. She wanted to skate again but knew Jessie wouldn’t let her. Dawn cuddled him every night in bed with her bedroom door open. Scott, Lucas, Derek and Justin stuck around. They slept over while she recovered in case they were needed. They slept on the couch downstairs and the arm chairs. They all kept their eyes on her. Laura wasn’t allowed to eat with them anymore, she was moved to the outside area to eat every meal since she treated Dawn like s**t. Dawn wasn’t okay with them doing that but they wouldn’t listen, well read her opinions on it. One morning she woke up really early to use the bathroom. She decided to go downstairs to get a drink. But descending the stairs was making her feel light headed. As she went to sit on a step, she felt two strong arms pick her up. “Where are you going?” Jessie whispered. His tired voice was very attractive to her. “Water.” Dawn said quietly. Jessie carried her down the stairs and put her on the kitchen counter. He gave Dawn a bottle of water and a bottle of milk. Jessie grabbed her antibiotics and handed it to her. Dawn hugged him. “Take your medicine, drink your drinks then we are going back to bed.” Jessie whispered. Dawn nodded. She kissed his cheek. Jessie wrapped his arms around her and held her close as she drank. Hearing every gulp, he tried to not laugh. He could tell she was really thirsty though. Jessie grabbed another bottle each and handed them to Dawn to carry. Dawn grabbed them and Jessie carried her to the room. When they laid down, Dawn rubbed the cold bottle along his neck. He shivered then laughed. “Come on cheeky, it’s bed time.” Jessie said softly. “I’m still thirsty.” Dawn said quietly. Jessie opened her other bottle. She drank it and burped really loud. Jessie laughed and then wrapped his arm around her. Dawn snuggled up to Jessie. “For the record.” Dawn said quietly. Jessie opened his eyes to look at her. “I love you too.” Dawn said quietly. “I know, I could tell. You just didn’t say it because you were upset at Laura for hurting you.” Jessie said. “Stop knowing me so well.” Dawn said quietly. “Never, you’re my girl forever. I will know you until I am old, and then beyond that.” Jessie said. “You know, you’re weird in a cute way.” Dawn said quietly. “I know, now go to sleep Darth Vader and rest your voice.” Jessie said. Jessie and Dawn laughed at his joke. A knock on the door appeared. “Behaving?” Mark asked. “Yes, Mr Bridges. Dawn snuck off trying to get to the kitchen. She was about to fall on the stairs. She said she was thirsty and she’s refusing to sleep now she’s had her medicine and drinks.” Jessie explained. “Dawn, you know the rules.” Mark said. “I know, but I can’t sleep.” Dawn said quietly. “Darth Vader won’t sleep.” Jessie said. Mark laughed. “It’s almost 6am. How about Dawn hangs out downstairs with me if you want to sleep.” Mark said. “I can stay awake.” Jessie said. “Then get your butts up. I have something to show Dawn.” Mark said. Dawn stood up. Jessie grabbed his water and handed it to Dawn before he picked Dawn up and carried her behind Mark. They were led to a room in Mark’s office. The room was a theatre and it was soundproof. “Sit down. I will be back. I need coffee.” Mark said. “Can you please grab me one?” Jessie asked. “Yep.” Mark said. Mark left and returned a few minutes later with two coffees and a box of tissues. He put the tissues in Dawn’s lap. He also put his coffee on his coffee table then handed Jessie a coffee. Mark turned the large screen on and clicked for it to start. It loaded a video of an olden day prom. Dawn realised she was about to see her mother. A younger Mark was wearing a silly hair style on his head and Dawn laughed then pointed at him. “Look at your hair.” Dawn laughed. “Okay scratchy, shut up and watch. Hair styles were different back then.” Mark said. Jessie laughed and hugged Dawn as she opened her mouth offended at Mark’s name for her. Dawn leaned against Jessie while she watched the video. There was her mother in a beautiful shiny blue full-length dress that hugged her features. She was walking on stage after being asked to join the band and sing. Miriam wore her hair in a curly style with real blue flowers along a headband. The students applauded her as she walked up on stage. Dawn watched as she grabbed her microphone, the BTL was showing visibly on the camera. She sang so many beautiful songs on video. She twirled herself on stage and giggled between each song. It showed her boyfriend Brutus taking over. Miriam went to the floor for a drink and it showed her dancing with Mark. They looked like they loved each other. Dawn was already using the tissues, but she was curious why Mark didn’t end up with her. Mark twirled her and Miriam giggled. They walked closer to the cameraman as Miriam grabbed a small drink.
