“Dawn.” Mark said.
Dawn looked up.
“Sit down, we need to talk.” Mark said.
Dawn flinched but slowly walked to the table.
“I know. Patrick just told me.” Mark said.
He looked visibly pissed off.
“I didn’t know the walls were that thin. Or that I was loud.” Dawn said softly.
“Not the point. You shouldn’t be doing that at all. Especially when you are near his room. Guys can’t control their body from getting aroused. And doing that is actually torturing him. He knows you might be his sister so he is trying his hardest to not do anything. You need to be considerate of the males in the house.” Mark said.
Dawn caught on to him saying males. She realised it wasn’t just about Patrick. This was involving when Jessie used to come over.
“I’m sorry.” Dawn said.
“And Patrick told me about your phone call, who touched you?” Mark asked.
“It doesn’t matter. They are gone at college and it happened over a year ago.” Dawn said.
“It does matter. Now who was it?” Mark asked.
“No one.” Dawn muttered.
“Go to your room if you won’t answer me.” Mark said.
“But Mark, I made a promise to go to my friends for a girl party.” Dawn said.
“No, you respect the rules or you leave.” Mark said.
Dawn sniffled. She ran to her room.
Mark sighed as he looked at his reflection in the glass door near him. Dawn slammed her door and locked it.
“DON’T SLAM DOORS!” Mark screamed.
Dawn grabbed a bag and started packing her things. She grabbed a charger and stuck it into her things for her phone. Dawn then grabbed her computer and its charger as well. Dawn grabbed her favourite clothes and she grabbed her boots. Dawn had two bags that were full, about to burst. Full of things like her essentials. Her clothes.
Dawn climbed out of her window and looked at Hawkeye.
“Stay here Hawkeye. I won’t be allowed to take you with me for a while okay.” Dawn said.
The hawk screeched loudly and it scared Mark and Patrick. They ran to her door. Dawn dropped her bags and climbed down. She carried the bags to her car then she loaded them in quickly and took off before Mark and Patrick reached the front door. Dawn just drove and drove.
Dawn was heading towards Princeton with nothing but hopes and dreams.
Mark called everyone and said Dawn ran away. He rang the police and gave them the licence plate number. But by now, Dawn was already far out of town and only the local police were looking for her. Dawn received calls from everyone but ignored them as she drove.
The days turned to weeks, time was rapidly approaching her birthday.
Dawn was starting to get low on cash for food and for fuel. But she was almost there. She stopped eating so she could save her money to make it last longer. As Dawn neared the sign for town, she used the car’s phone charger to charge her phone.
Dawn decided to dial Scott.
“Where have you been?” Scott asked.
“I’ve been avoiding everyone while I was driving towards Princeton.” Dawn said.
“You’re here?” Scott asked.
“Almost. I am outside of town. I just realised I have no idea where the Princeton college is.” Dawn said.
“I can come get you.” Scott said.
“Please do. I think I have to ditch the car.” Dawn said.
“I’m on my way. Where are you?” Scott said.
“I’m at the town sign. I am going to push my car behind the sign.” Dawn said.
“I’ll see you soon.” Scott said.
Dawn hung up and started to push the car.
Dawn had no clue where she was going to stay, or what she was going to do. Dawn decided to look at the results. She locked the car up and walked towards the boot. Opening it and sitting inside it, Dawn grabbed the letter.
Dawn opened it and read the results slowly. Sighing an annoyed sigh, then taking a picture of it. Dawn decided she was going to piss Mark off. Dawn got up, turned around and took a selfie aiming away from the sign so they didn’t know where she was.
[Well, you got your wish. I don’t respect the rules so I left. I turn 18 tomorrow. So, you can’t try bringing me back. I am starting a new life. I should probably tell you now, I read the letter that was left for me one night, the one from Brutus, when I was at a gas station. Turned out Brutus was infertile. Congrats dad. You made your daughter leave. Don’t contact me from now on. You made it clear that you wouldn’t give me a little bit of privacy or understanding. And it was an uncomfortable discussion that I wasn’t prepared for. Instead of giving me time, it was now or leave. So, I left. I’m glad I left. Goodbye.] – Dawn texted.
Scott pulled up after 20 minutes and helped Dawn load her stuff into the car. She booked a room at a cheap motel and Scott shook his head. He brought her to the college and into his room with Lucas. They kept her there in secret until she was able to start her own classes.
When Dawn was assigned a room in the new year, she was in their dorm and ironically just a few doors down. She was first to set up out of the new students. Dawn got a job as a waitress/barista and she got a modelling gig before she started college.
Dawn had earned a lot of money from doing a Victoria secret and a Vogue fashion show. She wowed everyone with her clothes. But she stayed on stage and changed behind a curtain because she was singing. Dawn never left the stage.
One day, the Vogue show that Dawn was performing on, was cut short because one of the models were found dead in Dawn’s dressing room yet she was seen last alive while Dawn sang onstage. And she died before Dawn left the stage. There was a box of chocolates on the desk with a note.
[To Dawn, sweets for a girl like you.] – Written by anonymous.
One was eaten but Dawn didn’t eat it. She was proven innocent because the stagehand said she was with him at first during the first song, but then while Dawn stayed singing her second song, he said she walked away to pinch a chocolate and never returned. So, Dawn realised that Mark was right about someone wanting her dead like her mother and Brutus.
Dawn was paranoid after that. Both Lucas and Scott cuddled her that night. They moved their mattresses to the floor to make a big enough bed. Dawn cried into both of their arms.
Her photos and magazines were out and everywhere now.
The videos and the press releases were everywhere. Dawn threw herself into studying before school even started. She was pre-set up in her dorm and reading with Scott and Lucas sitting with her reading their books when the door opened suddenly. Scott and Lucas got up protectively.
“Hello. Which one of you is my roommate?” Kai asked.
“Are you room 67?” Dawn asked.
“Yes miss.” Kai said.
“I’m your roommate.” Dawn said.
“Uh, I thought it was same gender rooms.” Kai said.
“So did we all.” Dawn said.
Dawn pulled Scott and Lucas’s hands to sit back down. They watched him closely.
