The dream was off and on through the night, never able to reach them, I kept hearing them say
“Anya, awake our beautiful daughter. The world needs you.” The woman had goddess like features while the man had the look of a demon.
“Anya,” I was being gently shook. “Anya, are you ok?” I heard a male voice whisper, I had tensed up from fear that someone had managed to get in my house. Fear rose up through me, until the shadowy figure reached over and clicked on my bedside lamp. Blinking off the light I could see Brad with a worried expression, looming over me. “Hey, are you ok?” He repeated.
“Yeah,” All fear ebbing away as I sat up rubbing sleep from my eyes.” you just startled me a bit.” I chuckled. Standing up and stretching, I grabbed my clothes and headed to the bathroom.
“Anya,” Brad’s voice muffled through the door.”Were you dreaming of your mother and father>”
Puzzled by this question I answered back “No why do you ask?”
“You were murmuring in your sleep, that you were coming. Mother father I am coming was your words.” His words shocked me. I called the figures in my dream mother and father yet those were not the parents I saw before. Had I made them into something they weren’t or was there a deeper meaning to my dream?
“Hmmm, that’s strange,” I opened the door with a quizzical expression,” I dreamed of a goddess-like woman and a demon-like man. Hand in hand, asking for me to awaken.” I pondered if deep down if this were a sign of sorts.
“Well, I don’t know much about dreams,”He heaved a sigh while scratching the back of his neck.. “but I could tell you about the mythical creatures I tend to.” He chuckled a bit with a shrug.
“Well, that is a conversation I would love to hear.” I had secured my arm band and zipped in my phone. Placing my hands on my hips, I smiled at Brad, giving him the okay I’m ready look.
“Well damn, the guys take forever to get out of bed and then forever to get dressed.” He chortled, reminiscing the last time he woke one of them for a run. “Well let’s head out. If you have any issues keeping up do not hesitate to let me know. I tend to get in the zone and run a lot.” I nodded as we headed out the door, placing my key in the opposite pocket of my card and cash.
We began running down the driveway and to the left. I stuck close to Brad, I had never been this way yet. We continued down the road and off onto a trail that was beside the road. Running again felt amazing, the energy surging through me, everything was beautiful. Nearing a development we crossed the road, entering into the development.
“Gotta go wake up Alex.” He called out. “You get to see how hard it is to wake them up.” I chuckled at the thought.
We turned down another road which had single floor apartments. We stopped at the third apartment. Brad knocked for a few minutes without an answer. He let himself in and waved for me to come in. The apartment was neat and very well organized. We turned down the hall where we came to a door at the end of the hall. Brad once again knocked a few times and waited. Again no answer and again Brad let himself in.
“Alex I hope your decent, don’t want Anya seeing your dingaling.” Brad hollered as he kicked the foot of the bed causing Alex to sit up. My cheeks flushed at his little joke.
“Asshole.” Alex growled at him. “Ugh I’m up damn it In up.” Alex rubbed his eyes and stretched. “Oh hey Anya. What’s up?” Alex’s bed head was everywhere, eyes slightly baggy, and shirtless. I squirmed a bit under his gaze as dirty thoughts seeped into my mind.
“I...I’m good.”
“Look you done scared her. Who’s the asshole now.” Brad said mockingly.
“Sorry Anya.” Alex’s face full of worry and defeat, as if he actually scared me.
“No, no you’re fine. I am perfectly fine.” I say trying to not look at him. His room was just as neat and organized. As I pandered around the room, Alex had shuffled to the bathroom. A suit of sorts caught my attention. Brad had went to the kitchen and I step closer, making sure not to touch. I inspected the suit, much like my father’s, it was a fitted knights suit. However, unlike my father’s brown leather, this was black with red claw marks on each shoulder. The chest was neatly covered with pins that marked his rank, achievements, and area of command.
“Is it really that intriguing?” The sound of Alex’s voice caused me to jump and spin to face him.
“I’m sorry, it caught my attention, just as my father’s did.” Placing my finger just below my lip as I thought of all the times I had seen it. His chest piece was neatly decorated with pins, but was brown leather with black crescent moons on the shoulder.
“No need to apologize.” Alex had placed his hands on my shoulders and squeezed my shoulders. “So before I forget, you’re coming to the beach party tonight.” Alex had a grin that was hard to say no to.
“Definitley.” Brad pipped up about me going.
“Looks like I am.” I chuckled at them.
“We’ll finish running so Matthew can take her out for some threads.” Brad was squirming and fidgeting. Alex laughed and nodded. I kept up with them pretty well, they never ran to far ahead and after about an hour of running we had ended up back at my driveway. “Well, we shall see you later, if Matthew doesn’t walk you to death in the shops.” He chuckled. “You can run with me anytime. You definitely kept up and never whined or complained.” He patted my shoulder before running off. Alex waved and went running after him. I sent a message to Matthew and jumped in the shower. The hot water felt amazing on my skin and I felt completely refreshed. I threw on my favorite, comfy jeans and a tee. I took all my dirty clothes from the previous days and tossed them in the washer, only to realize I had no laundry detergent. Making mental notes to get other items while out and about.
“Hey, Ho, Hellloooo.” I heard Matthew call out as I reached the top of the stairs.
“I am here.” I giggled. I grabbed my armband and fastened it. I needed both hands with this shopping trip. Matthew smiled as if he read my thoughts.
“Smart girl right there.” He winked, grabbed my hand, and lead me out to his sporty SUV. I hopped in with excitement. We drove into the city and went store to store. His taste was impeccable, which him being a fashion designer, I wouldn’t go up against him.
“So what’s your favorite color? I want you to LOOOVE these clothes.” He inquired
“Deep reds, like that beautiful burgundy, candy apple red, they are just intoxicating.” I was so enthusiastic he perked up.
“Yeeeesss girl! Your flawless skin, its fair complexion, ooouuu it just screams compliments against you.” He squealed with just as much excitement. He pulled beautiful shirts, knee length skirts, dresses that flaunted my curves, leggings, jeggings, you name it. I had a blast trying on the items and coming out spinning and modeling. He took photos of me as if I were a true model.
At one shop I found a beautiful, deep red dress. It was above the knee length with the soft fabric gently swept to one side to form into a bow about mid thigh. I paired it with gladiator sandals that came up to just below my knee. As I came out with new found confidence Matthew gasped with how it looked on me. What I hadn’t notice was I now had a slight audience with 7 other guys staring at me. Once I looked up my face flushed to a slight red. They were all staring in disbelief.
“Told you she was f*****g hot!” Matthew said matter of factly. “Boys pick your jaws up, your drooling.” Matthew laughed at their speechless reactions. In turn each guy blushed and tried looking elsewhere. Matthew winked at me. “Girl you have got to wear that tonight.”
“Please do! You would be the light of my party!” Curtis looking at his shoes spoke up. “Sorry I didn’t invite you last night. I feel like a total oaf when Alex brought up he invited you. It completely slipped my mind last night.” He seemed genuine and kind of saddened by his forgetfulness.
“Awe Curtis don’t feel that way. We were moving so much stuff and so much was happening. I don’t blame you a bit. It happens.” I smiled at him with a kind and gentle expression. He perked up and seemed at ease with my interjection.
Once I had all the items that we had picked, the guys helped me carry everything up front to the cashier. She glared at me, seeing the boys around me. What have I done to deserve that glare? Alex spoke and she smiled dreamily at him. I understood now. She rang everything up with haste trying to get me out of the way. Matthew had seen the total and slightly flinched as he didn’t realize that we had gone a bit crazy. I had put up a pair of shoes Matthew had been swooning over but couldn’t afford.
“Anya you shouldn’t add those!” Matthew said frantically.
“!03,697 is your total.” She smirked, as she smacked her gum, thinking a homely little girl like me couldn’t afford it, I swiped my card and entered my pin. ACCEPTED flashed on the screen and she went ghostly white. The guys all seemed awestruck except Alex, as he saw the day before that I had money. When I checked my account it still read $777 million. Not even dented. The cashier began bagging everything as if she was pissed off that my transaction had gone through. I handed the bag of Matthew’s shoes to him and he squealed.
“Happy new beginning day!” I said. I treated them all to a buffet of all they could eat. Satisfied we joke and laughed. I felt at home with them, excited for the future. We put everything in Matthew truck a familiar scent on the wind spiked my attention, causing me to stop mid conversation. I studied the scent of clove and cinnamon wondering if I’d ever find the person it belonged to. Everyone stopped and took in the wind trying to pick up what had taken and captivated my attention.
Alex grew slightly rigid and gave Curtis a strange look. Once the wind died I came back to my senses and looked at everyone. In all of their expressions they knew what caught my attention. My mate was close. I dropped my head and sighed heavily. Matthew seeing my depressed expression hugged me tightly. Everyone comforted me knowing the pain of wanting to find their mate. Alex and Curtis had stepped away out of earshot. Alex explaining something and Curtis nodding. Curtis looked at me, grinned, waved, and took off towards his car.
Matthew decided I needed to go home and relax a bit. We said our farewells and went to my house. Taking all the bags to my walk in closet and filling it up. I put away soap, shampoo, and oddities I had grabbed for cleaning and keeping the house organized. I even bought a little streaming device and linked my phone to it to play movies, TV shows, and watch occasional videos. I even set an appointment up for the following days for internet. We sat and enjoyed the time together gossiping about what to wear to the party, makeup, everything. Matthew took his leave to get ready. I had a few hours before it started anyways so I got into a movie.
