The sun glistened in through the window as a breeze pushed the curtains to the side. I was a bit sore from the wonderful night. I had found my mate. Shifting a little I realized he wasn’t in bed. I got up, and went to my closet putting on a comfy pair of jeans with a pretty flowing shirt that ruffled at the top. I went downstairs and the house was empty. I felt alone and sad that he wasn’t here. I felt as if I had done something wrong and he left. I decided to run upstairs and swiftly change into a jogging outfit. I wanted to see Granny Edna and Liz. I missed them and just needed to clear my head. I grabbed my arm band, fastened it, and took out the door. Running to the comfy motel. I was there in a twenty minute run and was greeted by Granny Edna’s beautiful beaming face. She enveloped me in a warm, comforting hug. Liz and Jonathan were out house hunting so I sat awhile with Granny. She brought out an old book and handed it to me.
“I found this beautiful little book of spells and think you might like this. It’s my housewarming gift to you.” She looked so chipper and it was absolutely beautiful. I had moved slightly as I heard the door open and Granny gasped. Startled I looked back with worry, only to find her hand to her mouth covering a big smile.
“Granny what’s wrong? What happened? Are you ok?” I said kneeling before her. She touched a spot on my neck, not realizing my mate mark had already appeared.
“Oh child you found your mate! He’s of royal blood and a true Lycan Alpha and it seems your past has a few secrets. “Puzzled I stood up and looked at my mark. A purple ring with two interlocking crowns in the middle, four stars hung above them, one side a werewolf had its head to the middle on the other a Werewolf with a symbol. Their foreheads pressed to one another with the infinity symbol at the point of their noses.
“Granny what does that symbol mean?”
“Child you are of the Moon Goddess's blood. Lycanista was mated to the demon Lucian and once every so often they meet, their love pouring out into the blood moon’s. Every blood moon a baby is given to a family to care and nurture. When the child reaches a certain age she gains immense amount of powers.” My heart stopped for a minute as I absorbed all of this. Panic had set in. I explained my dream with every detail. Granny stopped rocking in her chair, eyes lit with hope.. “You are one of those children, my beautiful grandbaby.” She stood up and reached for a book on top of the bookshelf. Flipping through it until she came to a page that helped her explain. She handed me the book showing me Lycanista and Lucian. My true mother and father. She rubbed my back and soon hobbled away. Allowing me to take this all in. My abilities enhance with every day, I would live forever, my mate would live forever along with our children. Why was I never told that I was adopted. Were they afraid of what would happen? I was left with so many questions and the ones with the answers could no longer give them.
I pondered for a while about it and decided to go further into town. It would take me a while to get there but I didn’t want to bother anyone. It was time to buy my own car. I drove my parents and had my license but after their crash I decided to walk, jog, or run anywhere I needed to go in Lolip. I called a taxi to come to the motel and drive me to a car lot. A small gas efficient car would suffice. I sat outside as I waited for the cab, my mind wondering to little bits and pieces of my childhood. They loved me just as my actual mother and father did. Rubbing the book Granny gave me, I made sure to keep it close, and to treasure it.
A small toot of a horn came from a yellow cab in front of me. Letting the driver know I wanted to go to a new car lot, he nodded, and started the meter. I sat with my hands on the book and watched out the window. Clearing my mind and numbing my emotions. Lost to the outside world I hadn’t noticed that we had arrived.
“Hey doll you ok? Is this where you wanted to go?” His grisly tone pulled me back to reality.
“I am so sorry, I was lost in thought, this is perfect.” I handed him a fifty and told him to keep the change. He gratefully tipped his hat and drove off. As I looked around a few cars peeked my interest, one seated eight and was very efficient with fuel. It was more of an SUV style but was still small with a lot of room. The vehicle was Ponda Hilot. A beautiful candy apple red with a black stripe down the side, built in movie player that linked to your phone’s hotspot or portable wifi, navigational system, and a good sound system. Leather seats that reclined or folded away. I decided this car was the best option. I walked inside and was greeted warmly by a sales associate. We chatted about the car and we started doing the paperwork. He asked if I had a loan and I told him I had cash. He seemed stunned by my comment.
“Ma’am this is a 56,000 vehicle, are you sure you wish to go this route?” He seemed worried but I reassured him I was financially capable of buying the car. After signing a few papers I handed him my card and the utter shock on his face when it came across Acepted was priceless. He handed me the keys, grabbed a license plate that he binded to my name, and walked out with me to the car. He installed the license plate, shook my hand, and I climbed into my new car. I started it with a button on the dash attaching the key to my arm band. I placed Granny’s book on the passenger seat and drove off the lot. I asked my navi system to direct me to the nearest super store. I needed to buy groceries and a few other items.
I arrived at the Titant Super and went down aisle by aisle, Picking up some more candles, bird feeders, brick pavers, diffusers, and a couple of wax warmers. I grabbed handfuls of wax cubes and essential oils. I grabbed items like trash bags, baggies, cleaning supplies, and office supplies. One cart full I grabbed another. I filled the cart with spices, baking items, and some other items that caught my attention. I paid and loaded my car, with the items. I went to the bakery, farmer’s market, butcher, and a little mom and pop store to grab canned goods. A feeling of fear and dread filled my emotions. This must be my mate because I was perfectly fine until a moment ago. I gather the rest of the items and headed home. Pulling into the driveway I noticed everyone’s cars.
“What the f**k?” I was confused as to why everyone had shown up while I was out. Had something happened? As I got out of the car and was grabbing bags, arms had swept around my middle. Sparks were flying wildly with his touch and he had buried his face in my back. Sorrow, fear, happiness, so many emotions flooded me. I could feel his heart racing, his breath was rapid, causing me to turn around to him to calm him. His face buried now in the nape of my neck as I hushed him and soothed him with my touch. “Remember this,” I whispered in his ear.” No matter what I will always return to you. Have no fear because hell wouldn’t be able to keep me from you. Calm down and breath. I am here.” I kissed his head. He had picked me up at this point, refusing to let go.
“Please don’t do that to me. I was so fearful that you had left, that I had upset you in someway. I went for a run with the boys and came back to you gone. We tried messaging and calling but your phone went to voicemail.” I hadn’t remembered to charge my phone so of course I had forgotten it was dead.
“Breath. I had to figure some things out while speaking to Granny Edna and decided I didn’t want to mooch off everyone for rides.” I looked at the new car behind me. “We also needed groceries as the cupboards are bare, and I grabbed a few other items.” Placing his forehead on mine the smell of cloves and cinnamon wrapped my senses. He was my peace and comfort. After a few moments everyone appeared making sure I was unscathed from my adventure. Everyone grabbed bags and brought them in as Vlad refused to let me out of his sight. Matthew assisted in helping me put away all the groceries, bagging certain portions of meat, bread and other items that would be placed in the deep freezer. My counter gradually cleared as cans, boxes, bags, and jugs were put away. Alex remembering the pavers had instructed the guys on how to place them. Grabbing a larger bag I pulled out a football, soccer ball, and some activities for people to play. Alex snagged the football and showed the guys and they all cheered and went out. Matthew helped me set up the diffusers in the bathrooms and the wax warmers in the kitchen, dining room, living room, and we place one on the banister for my room. Pulling out a cube on a shelf in the dining room I place the warmers and oils. My counters cleaned, I collected the bags for use in the bathroom trash cans and filled each bathroom with soaps for guys and girls, toilet paper, towels, wash clothes, and soaps.
Seeing as I had finished Vlad had wrapped me once again. Matthew giving me the puppy dog eyes. I grabbed some throws from the hall closet and we had gone to the back porch swing to watch the boys play. Vlad sat with me on the swing and Matthew wrapped himself with a throw on the rocking chair. Vlad held me to his chest for awhile and I felt him want to go.
“Vlad go have fun with the guys. I promise I am not going anywhere.” He smiled and pecked my lips a few times before finally going to have fun.
“That man hasn’t been this happy in quite some time.” Matthew admitted. “So girl, what did you get into today?” Remembering the book Granny had given me I had jumped up and dashed to grab it. Startled Matthew gave me a puzzled look. I came back cycling through the pages and realized it was the twin to Granny’s book. I flipped to the page where Lycanista and Lucian were. I returned to the guys sweaty and looking for answers at my sudden bolt.
“Brad remember when you said I was murmuring stuff in my sleep?”
“Yeah you were dreaming about a chick and a dude. You kept repeating mother and father and gibberish.” I nodded
“Well, courtesy of my mate mark Granny found out why.” My eyes met Vlad's as he c****d an eyebrow towards Brad. I snickered a minute at Brad’s reaction. Handing the book to Matthew, he read it aloud. Faces of surprise and confusion. Matthew stood up and sat the book on the swing.
“May I?” I nodded as he pulled my hair away from my mark, looking at the book and back at the mark. “Ahah there it is!” confused I stood still until I felt his finger trace and tickle causing me to jump and giggle. “ I had to, it was just too easy.” Matthew giggled.
“So why were you never told?” Benni blurted and was met with a jab to the ribs by Alex.
”Because the people I called mother and father were taken before they had time to.” looking at the book I felt sorrow. Due to the folklore, Lycanista and Lucian meet every 100 years causing the blood moon. They are ripped from one another and share a child they can’t nurture together. Forbidden love that has lasted so long because they made their vows just as Vlad and I had the previous night. They stayed true to their vows.
