Chapter 0 - Prologue

962 Words
Summer went by so slowly that it never crossed my mind that I had to go back to school already. I spent most of my summer days inside my house, barely talking to anyone, which concerned my dad the most. Despite his busy schedule due to work, he has a handful of time nagging by my bedroom door. He even tried to bribe my way out of the house by giving me his card, but I still refused. He was the one getting all my stuff for my return to school as I had no energy to do it myself. Though there were moments when I was completely bored inside the house, I still refused to even step outside the house - mainly because I was trying to avoid any encounters with someone living across the alley. After that humiliating announcement I made on my 18th birthday, my pride refused to humiliate me more just by seeing my best friend's stupid face. I spent the entire summer avoiding him despite the fact he was the first one ignoring my calls ever since that night. I did not expect to make him so flustered even though I just announced it in front of our friends and not on stage in front of my family and relatives like a lunatic! Now, I'm sitting in this classroom, completely miserable, knowing that he will be entering the room at any moment. I have never seen his face since that night, so it would feel weird to finally see him after such a long time. We have spent most of our time together since elementary school and this is the longest time we have been out of contact. It feels like I lost him and gambled our friendship. I lost him. I lost my childhood best friend. I lost my soulmate. I lost Grayson James because I confessed my feelings to him. That's what I feel. My eyes stared outside the classroom window to avoid any eye contact with my classmates. I know for sure they have at least gossiped about my confession to Grayson James. I've been with these people for years and they know how valuable my friendship with Grayson James is, so it must be a shocker to them that I confessed and got rejected. What's worse is that he did not even let me finish and just rejected me! He left the venue and I was left standing like an i***t trying to process what had just happened. I had hoped for a while that I wouldn't be in the same class as all of them for my last year in high school, but here I am with the same group of people since 7th Grade. "Farah! Farah!" I looked up and saw Leane, one of my close friends. I had not seen her in such a long time, since she was not able to come to my birthday party after visiting her family in Singapore when school ended. I gave her a small smile. "Hello, Leane." "You seem to be not in the mood," she frowned. "Don't you miss me?" A small laugh escaped my lips. "I do. I'm just a little tired." I proceeded to lay my head on my desk. She leaned closer to me after sitting down on the empty seat in front. "You did not get any sleep last night?" I shook my head. "Poor thing. You really enjoyed this summer, huh?" I sighed. "I spent my entire summer sulking. I did not enjoy it." She playfully hit my arm. "What do you mean you didn't have fun this summer? Didn't you go on a cruise last month?" My eyes lit up as I remember. "I've seen your pictures on i********:. I doubt that trip bore you," she smirked. I sat up straight. "What are you smirking at?" Leane shrugged. "I may have heard a thing or two." I crossed my arms and raised my eyebrows. She sighed. "I saw that i********: story of yours. You were with a guy," she said. "So if I was with a guy?" "It was not Grayson James and it is interesting," she grinned. I looked out of the window. "Why would I take him on a cruise?" "I don't know. Maybe because you're close and you confessed to him at your party?" "You heard that, huh?" I sighed. As I tried to look at Leane to hear her response, my eyes turned to the classroom door. I saw a familiar figure standing by the door, talking to Terence, the class president. As Terence stepped back, the guy entered the classroom. My eyes widened. My jaw dropped to the ground as I was able to see a better look as he walked closer to the front. I have seen those curly locks, tall height, and tanned skin before! I looked away as I saw his head turned in my direction. I am screwed. Why is he here?! Is he a transfer student?! I'm pretty sure he was a complete stranger when I met him! I had never seen him before and now he was standing in the same room as me, wearing a school uniform similar to mine?! As I recall, he has never mentioned where he lives! Was the reason why he knew how to push my buttons because he already knew me? Although it is quite impossible, I doubt that he would even remember me. "Farah! Are you listening to me?" Leane snapped. I turned to her and blinked a few times. "I want to hear more about this mystery guy you met on the cruise." She whispered while giggling. Do you want to know more about him? Well, Leane, he's standing right in front of the room right now!
