Chapter 20: Under the Eyes of God Mason. Luke. James. Philip. Wes. Kyle. My six brothers sit on one side of a long table in black tuxes and shiny leather shoes. They sport tails and white roses on their lapels. Their beloved wives sit across from them: Pam, Patricia, JoAnne, Linda, Marissa, and Kendal. The wives wear ruby-colored gowns with matching heels. Each holds a bouquet of white roses. Mama is at the head of the table, bringing the husbands and wives together. She wears a gold lamay dress with two-inch heels. Her gray hair is twisted in a bun at the back of her head. She holds a champagne glass in her right hand, and a clutch that matches her dress in her left hand. She takes a sip of her beverage, smiles from her seat, delighted to be in this faraway place inside my silent body.
