AARA
Delhi Wedding Hall Night
For a moment, no one moved.
Not the guards.
Not the guests who were still hiding behind overturned chairs.
Not even me.
Because the way that man looked at me… it wasn’t normal.
It wasn’t curiosity.
It wasn’t confusion.
It was recognition.
And I hated that I couldn’t understand why.
Arjun stepped slightly in front of me, his body blocking half my view. It wasn’t a protective gesture exactly. It felt more like control.
Like he was deciding how much of me the other man was allowed to see.
“Raghav,” Arjun said again, his voice calm but carrying something darker underneath.
So that was him.
The name I had just heard minutes ago from the guards.
The one they sounded nervous about.
Raghav smiled like he was enjoying this.
“Relax,” he said casually, glancing around the hall. “I’m not here to ruin your wedding.”
My eyes narrowed slightly.
Not here to ruin it?
Then what exactly was this?
Arjun didn’t respond. He just watched him.
Carefully.
Like a man measuring distance before pulling a trigger.
Raghav took another step forward, completely ignoring the guns pointed at him.
Bold.
Too bold.
His gaze shifted again.
Straight to me.
“And you,” he said, tilting his head slightly. “You look even better than I imagined.”
My stomach tightened.
“Do I know you?” I asked before I could stop myself.
He chuckled softly.
“That depends.”
“On what?”
“On how much you remember.”
That irritated me instantly.
“I don’t like riddles.”
“I know.”
The way he said it made my chest tighten again.
Like he actually meant it.
Like he knew me.
Arjun’s voice cut through the tension.
“Stop talking to her.”
Raghav raised his hands slightly in mock surrender.
“Possessive already?”
Arjun didn’t react to the teasing.
His expression remained the same.
Cold.
Controlled.
But his grip on my wrist tightened just a little more.
And for some reason…
I noticed.
Raghav noticed too.
His smile shifted.
Just slightly.
Interesting.
Very interesting.
“You married her fast,” Raghav continued. “Didn’t even give me time to send a gift.”
“This isn’t your concern,” Arjun replied flatly.
“Oh, I think it is.”
Raghav’s eyes flickered toward me again.
Because every time he looked at me, something inside me twisted uncomfortably.
Like a memory trying to surface.
Failing.
Then trying again.
“You really don’t remember me, do you?” he asked.
I frowned.
“No.”
He studied my face for a few seconds.
Then smiled again.
“That’s unfortunate.”
“For who?” I shot back.
“For you.”
The answer came too quickly.
Too confidently.
And I didn’t like it.
At all.
Arjun stepped forward slightly.
“Say what you came to say and leave.”
Raghav sighed like he was bored.
“You’re no fun.”
“Leave.”
But Raghav ignored him again.
Instead, he focused completely on me.
“You were in an accident six years ago,” he said.
My breath caught.
The words hit harder than they should have.
“How do you
“Do you remember what happened that night?” he interrupted softly.
Arjun’s voice dropped dangerously.
“Enough.”
But I wasn’t looking at Arjun anymore.
I was looking at Raghav.
Because something in his tone…
It didn’t sound like a question.
It sounded like he already knew the answer.
“I remember,” I said slowly.
Rain.
A slippery road.
Brakes failing.
The crash.
The blood.
“I remember enough.”
Raghav’s smile didn’t fade.
“Do you?”
Something cold slid down my spine.
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
Arjun moved again, placing himself fully between us now.
“You’re done.”
“Oh come on,” Raghav said lightly. “Don’t you want her to know?”
“To know what?” I snapped, stepping slightly to the side so I could still see him.
Both men went quiet for a second.
And suddenly, the air felt heavier.
Raghav tilted his head.
“That the story you’ve been telling yourself… isn’t complete.”
My chest tightened.
“I didn’t kill anyone.”
“I know.”
The answer came instantly.
That surprised me.
Then he added
“But someone did.”
Silence.
Heavy silence.
Arjun’s jaw clenched.
“You think this changes anything?” he asked coldly.
Raghav shrugged.
“Not for me.”
Then his gaze shifted back to me again.
“But for her? Maybe.”
I felt it again.
That strange pull.
Like I was standing at the edge of something important.
Something dangerous.
“What are you talking about?” I demanded.
Raghav reached into his pocket slowly.
Every single guard tensed immediately.
Guns lifted.
Safety clicks echoed.
But he didn’t pull out a weapon.
Just a small silver lighter.
He flipped it open.
The flame flickered softly in the dim hall.
Then he spoke.
“That night… your brakes didn’t fail on their own.”
My heart skipped.
“What?”
“They were cut.”
The world tilted slightly.
“No.”
“Yes.”
I shook my head.
“That’s not possible.”
But even as I said it, doubt crept in.
Because I had always wondered.
Why the brakes failed so suddenly.
Why nothing made sense afterward.
“You’re lying,” I said, but my voice wasn’t as strong this time.
Raghav smiled faintly.
“Am I?”
Arjun’s voice came out sharper.
“You’re playing games.”
But something in his tone had changed too.
Doubt.
Just a little.
Raghav noticed.
And that seemed to amuse him even more.
“Oh, Arjun,” he said softly. “You still haven’t figured it out, have you?”
“Figured out what?” I demanded.
But neither of them answered immediately.
Instead, Raghav took one slow step closer.
“You weren’t supposed to survive that crash,” he said quietly.
My blood ran cold.
“What?”
“That accident…”
He snapped the lighter shut.
“…was meant to kill you.”
The words echoed in my head.
Kill me?
Why?
I didn’t even know him.
I barely knew anyone who would want me dead.
Arjun spoke again.
And this time his voice was darker than before.
“Why?”
Raghav finally looked at him properly.
Their eyes locked.
And for the first time, his smile faded just slightly.
“Because your brother got in the way.”
My chest tightened instantly.
Arjun’s brother.
The one who died that night.
“You killed him,” Arjun said.
Raghav didn’t deny it.
“Yes.”
The word fell like a bomb.
One of the guards stepped forward angrily, but Arjun raised his hand again, stopping him.
He was still staring at Raghav.
Like he wanted to tear him apart.
“Why now?” Arjun asked quietly.
“Why tell us this now?”
Raghav shrugged.
“Because now it’s interesting.”
My head was spinning.
None of this made sense.
“Why me?” I asked again, my voice barely steady.
Raghav looked at me carefully.
Long.
Almost… thoughtfully.
“Because you were in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
“That’s not an answer.”
“It’s the only one you’re getting tonight.”
Arjun’s patience finally snapped.
In one swift movement, he grabbed a gun from the guard beside him and aimed it directly at Raghav.
The entire hall froze.
“You’re done talking.”
Raghav didn’t even flinch.
Instead, he laughed.
“You won’t shoot me.”
Arjun’s finger tightened slightly on the trigger.
“Try me.”
But Raghav leaned closer.
And whispered something into Arjun’s ear.
I couldn’t hear it.
But whatever it was…
It changed everything.
Arjun’s expression darkened instantly.
His grip on the gun loosened just a fraction.
Raghav straightened again.
Then looked at me one last time.
“Enjoy your marriage, Aara.”
My stomach dropped.
Why did he say my name like that?
Like it meant something more.
Then he turned and started walking toward the exit.
No one stopped him.
No one dared.
Just before stepping out, he paused.
And said one last thing
“If you really want the truth…”
His gaze flickered toward Arjun.
“…you married the wrong man.”
Then he walked out.
Just like that.
The tension didn’t leave with him.
If anything…
It got worse.
I turned to Arjun immediately.
“Explain.”
He didn’t answer.
“Arjun.”
Nothing.
His eyes were fixed somewhere else.
Like he was replaying something in his head.
Something Raghav had said.
Finally, he spoke.
But his voice sounded different.
Colder.
“If what he said is true…”
He paused.
“…then everything I believed for six years was wrong.”
I crossed my arms.
“You think?”
He ignored the sarcasm.
Instead, he looked at me.
Carefully.
“Did you call for help that night?”
“Yes.”
“And you stayed?”
“Yes.”
His jaw tightened.
“My brother said something else.”
My chest tightened again.
“What?”
Arjun hesitated.
Then said quietly He said the girl in the car ran away.”
I stared at him.
“I didn’t.”
Silence stretched between us.
Heavy.
Uncomfortable.
Then suddenly, his phone vibrated.
He checked the screen.
And whatever he saw made his expression turn deadly serious.
“What now?” I asked.
He didn’t answer.
Instead, he turned the screen toward me.
A video was playing.
Grainy footage.
Dark.
But recognizable.
My breath caught.
It was the accident.
My car.
Spinning.
Crashing.
Then a man running toward it.
Not Arjun’s brother.
Someone else.
He opened the driver’s door.
Looked at me.
And then…
Walked away.
My stomach dropped.
“That’s him,” I whispered.
Arjun nodded slowly.
“Raghav.”
The video froze on his face.
Smiling.
Like he knew exactly what he had done.
Then Arjun looked at me again.
And this time, there was no doubt left in his eyes.
Only something darker.
More dangerous.
“Looks like our marriage just became a problem.”
My heart skipped.
“Why?”
He stepped closer.
Too close.
“And because if he wanted you dead once…”
A pause.
“He’s going to try again.”
My breath caught.
“And this time…”
His voice dropped.
“…you’re my responsibility.”
Before I could respond
A loud explosion shook the building.
The ground trembled.
Glass shattered somewhere outside.
People screamed again.
One of the guards rushed in.
“Sir!”
Arjun turned sharply.
“What now?”
The guard swallowed hard.
“Raghav left a message.”
Arjun’s eyes narrowed.
“What message?”
The guard hesitated.
Then said quietly
“He said next time…”
My stomach tightened.
“…he won’t miss.”
