Vanessa, Quinten and Zander's mom, has the power to see into the future. When Zander was born Vanessa saw that if she and Nicholas raised him then Zander would slaughter thousands of humans and end up hating them for not stopping him. The thing about Vanessa's visions is that they were not 100% accurate but, she and Nicholas would not risk Zander doing these horrible things. Quinten would not know that he had a brother because Zander could still possibly commit these atrocities if Zander came back to the family.

Zander is building an army of vampires to fight Nicholas, Vanessa, and Quinten for the throne of the vampire world. Zander is using his compulsion power to make vampires with powers to join his cause. Stephanie is mated to Zander but, feels betrayed, used, and violated by Zander because Zander uses his power against her but, is unaware of it until they finish the s****l component of the mating process. Stephanie realizes that she may be able to help more if she stays with Zander.

Quinten runs into Zander at Darkmyth University and confronts Vanessa about Zander. Vanessa confesses that she decided because it would have caused Zander to become more violent if Zander had stayed with them. Quinten did believe that his mother when she told him that Zander was evil. When Quinten finds Crystal at Darkmyth University as well it could be the one person that can defeat Zander.
