NORA'S POV
I could see Antonio fuming as he narrated how he found Milagro at Cisco's house unharmed, but scared for not seeing his papa and mama. He had managed to convince Cisco to let his child go, but not before warning him that he'd pay for involving our family In his mess. As Antonio narrated what happened at Cisco's, my hatred for him grew by the minute. How dare he fail his promise of not harming my family. How dare he involve my family in the first place? What was his motive, and what for.? Money? Power?.
But at the same time, I couldn't help but feel guilty for agreeing to bring Antonio to Cisco, and for eben agreeing with Antonio to go on with the plan. If I had just said no, probably, just maybe the issue might not have ended up being this much. I was desperate to protect my family and I had to take that move. There was silence for a while as everyone battled with different thoughts.
"We need to find a way to stop him," Christabel spoke suddenly disrupting the silence that had fallen over us.
"Right, Antonio nodded in agreement. We will, but, safety first. Also, there's nothing you both can do to help except to make sure you're safe."
We huddled together in my living room trying to figure out a plan on how to deal with Cisco. It wasn't going to be easy- Cisco was a powerful man with connections. To spoil it all, he's a werewolf. Not just an ordinary werewolf, he was the alpha of his own. This was a job for wolves only... This was a fight between wolves, but my family ended up getting involved. Anyway, we were determined to protect our family and loved ones from getting involved any further.
As dawn broke outside, we finally came up with some sort of plan we all agreed on. It wasn't foolproof but it was better than coming up with nothing. However Christabel and I were in no way involved in the plan as it was not our fight, but we were involved in the plan to be aware of whatever will or is going on. After we decided on the plan, my husband and Chris were ready to swing into action as soon as possible.
We started the day carefully going around the house not trying to move out of the house not to talk of moving out of the front porch. I made sure to take care of Christabel and Milagro as time went on. We sat for a meal as a family. We had a quiet meal. There was obvious tension in the air. Just then, I remembered the phone call I had from Cisco last night.
"Babe, Cisco called last night before you came in." I broke the silence. It was killing me.
"And what did he say.? Antonio asked not looking away from his food.
"He said he wants you.. what does he want you for.? He said if he doesn't get you, the child will have to pay for it." I said and my voice shook. That was before you came with the baby tho." I let out a sigh.
"Everything will end soon. Nothing is going to happen to our baby. If we're able to execute our plan well, we should be fine." Antonio said and then took a glass of water. Soon, he was done with his meal.
After the meal, we went about the household routine while Chris and Antonio got ready to execute the plan. Soon, it was night again. And we sat down for another meal. The silence reigned again as we had our meal. Everyone was confused about what to say to start a conversation. Antonio had a serious face. At least, Chris was with us for a while again even if it was for preparation for war, at least he had his friend by his side again.
After the night's meal, we all retired to our rooms to rest and prepare for the upcoming events. I didn't get to sleep with my husband this time. He needed to have his time with Chris to make further plans. I slept with Christabel. But then, I couldn't bring myself to sleep. My mind raced with thoughts of what if...
What if something goes wrong, what if Antonio gets hurt in the process, what if we lose someone we love and care about? I couldn't bear the thought of losing someone so dear to us. As I lay in bed, a soft palm landed on my skin. It was Christabel, the moonlight shone on her face revealing her worried and scared-looking face.
"Nora, can I talk to you? She asked softly already sitting up in bed.
"Of course, I said as I sat up in bed putting my hands across her shoulders and pulling her close to myself.
"I'm scared", she admitted tears welling up In her eyes threatening to fall. "I don't want anything to happen to any of us".
"I know", I said as I pulled her closer giving her a tight hug I could feel my nightie getting soaked with her tears. She had already let out the water. "But we have to be strong for each other and our family. I never knew things would get so out of hand, I wouldn't have invited you over to look after Maligro. We wouldn't have even gone for the date. But we will get through this together."
We talked for a while before we finally drifted to sleep in each other's hands. The next day was going to be a long one, and we had to brace ourselves for whatever challenges might come our way.
The sun shone bright, signaling a new day. I was lazy to get up from the bed but I couldn't help but get up. I got ready and waited for others to get up from bed. I decided to take a walk to clear my head a bit. As I walked down the street, I could feel something or someone was tracking my movement. I walked faster and I realized a figure was truly lurking in the shadows trailing my path. I stopped for a while to confirm if truly I was being followed. As I stopped, everything stood still.
I turned to my right taking another route back home. I ran as fast as my legs could carry. I felt I was been followed, but I didn't stop until I got home. As soon as I got home, I saw Antonio. I was breathing fast.
"What is the matter, where did you go and where are you coming from.?" Antonio bombarded me with questions.
I explained what happened to Antonio and we knew we needed to act fast. Antonio called for reinforcement from his pack and Chris made the necessary preparations to set out. They made sure our house was secured before they left.
"Close all the doors and windows as soon as we leave. There will be enough security to keep anyone from coming in, but make sure to brace yourselves." Antonio said as he got set to leave the house with Chris.
As Antonio and Chris left the house, I couldn't help but feel a sense of dread wash over me. I was terrified for myself and for the people under my care. The fact that Cisco sent someone to trail our path meant he was up to something mischievous, and he was getting close to reaching his goal.
We needed to act fast before it got too late to act.
I spent the day with Maligro and Christabel, trying my best to keep them distracted from the danger that loomed outside. Every single time I heard a noise, my heart would race. Soon, it was night again. This was the first night I would spend without seeing or hearing my husband's voice.
I rolled around in bed waiting for that good news. I couldn't sleep, I felt very restless and anxious. My heart raced when I heard a bang on the roof. I stood up in haste, but I knew It would be stupid to go find out what happened. I forced myself to lay back in bed trying hard to put myself to sleep. I was lost in thought when suddenly I heard a knock on the door. It was Christabel. She looked tense as she walked up to my bed. It seemed the loud bang also woke her up, and she ended up not being able to sleep any longer.
"You don't look too good." I commented as she climbed up on my bed. "are you okay.?"
"I'm not fine Nora, she said. I'm scared, I couldn't sleep after I heard the loud bang. I hope we are safe where we are." She said as she choked on her words.
"We are, I'm sure Antonio's people will not let any harm come to us.
Just then, we heard another loud bang. This time, it was on our door.
