OTSANA
Like, literally, today was a special day for me.
What happened a few nights ago had made my father overly protective of me. Like, he didn’t used to believe me whenever I told him I was being bullied.
Fortunately for me that night, he was a witness to everything that transpired. Alpha Adolphus was informed, and you know what he did to Nixie and co.? You wouldn’t want to imagine that.
They are being made to do all the dirty chores in the packhouse and always report to me every day after they have finished the task. They were still serving the punishment, and they will come to report tonight as well.
Like, I’m very excited with that judgment, you know, the look on their faces when they come to tell me they were done with all the pack's dirty chores, looking all humbled. I feel on top of the world each time. Thanks to Alpha Adolphus.
“Hello, Otsana.”
A rush of adrenaline surged through my veins as I sprang up on the bed I was lying on and rushed to the door. I opened it and peered through the corridor, looking both right and left, which was practically empty.
I shut the door behind me and checked the bathroom and every other place in my room, but there was no one in sight. I was alone.
Then who could have called my name? I heard it. It was audible and clear!
“It’s me, Otsana,” I heard the voice again.
“Who are you?” I found myself asking, even though I’m not sure of whom I was speaking to. Or was I hallucinating?
“It is me, Maya, your wolf,” the voice rang through my head again loud and clear. Then I knew the voice was coming from my head, not from anywhere around.
I stopped thinking about anything and decided to concentrate or maybe figure out what I just heard, or maybe it was difficult for me to believe.
“Maya, my wolf?” I wanted to be sure that I heard right. I didn’t know when my mouth went agape like a comic book character.
I felt something walking to the front of my mind. “Yes, and happy eighteenth birthday, girl,” she whimpered.
Oh my goodness. I palmed my mouth in excitement. This was too good to be true. Like, literally, I have my wolf now? And she was talking to me?
Wait, remember I earlier said today was a special day for me, right?
It’s my f*****g eighteenth birthday today! And guess what happened. I got my f*****g wolf!
Yay!
I didn’t know when I suddenly found myself on the bed, jumping with excitement. Like, literally, it was like I was on cloud nine, floating with excitement.
So the moon goddess hasn’t forsaken me after all.
I need to find my father right now because he needs to know I have seen my wolf. Alpha Adolphus needed to know too.
While these thoughts were running in my head, beads of sweat were rolling down my face as a result of me jumping on the bed with excitement.
“Maya, are you still there?” I stopped jumping so as to hear her voice clearly.
“Yes, I am,” she confirmed. “Can you shift, and let’s go for a run afterwards?”
“Yes, we can,” I smiled giddily, forgetting that I wanted to let my father and the Alpha know I had gotten my wolf. But that can wait, right?
The number one thing I had on my wish list after getting my wolf was a run through the woods. It was as if Maya knew I couldn’t reject such an offer. Well, who would after waiting two years?
I closed my eyes and allowed my wolf to take over me. I felt my bone, or was it her bone? I would say, cracking and breaking. It was ridiculously painful, but it was what I wanted. I have waited so long for this day.
It happened so fast. I was on fur, and I could feel it. My skin stretched out, and tears welled up as my eyes were closely shut, and I allowed them to flow freely.
My father had educated me about what to do when I needed to shift, so I was not naive.
Soon, the pain stopped, and I sighed in relief. I opened my eyes; I was on my paws.
I was in my wolf form. I was all brown with a white color around my neck.
I could smell, see, hear, and feel everything around me. Every one of my senses was magnified. The feelings were different, and everything was wonderful.
Without thinking twice, I ran out through my window and off into the woods. I galloped slower, and then the speed continued increasing as I kept running faster and faster, and as I ran, I felt the breeze brush my fur.
I kept running for what felt like an eternity; it was like I shouldn’t stop, but I had to. A few hours later, I decided to return to the pack house.
I took the same window where I went out, and luckily for me, my dress was where I left it, and that meant my father hadn't been home yet. He should be with Alpha Aldophus.
Once I was done changing, I walked out of our home with excitement, heading towards Alpha’s office, where I could possibly find my father and Alpha Adolphus.
As I walked closer, my wolf was humming excitedly in my head. Maybe she was happy to be here with me because I was too.
Now, she was getting too excited, and I also felt a scent hit my nostrils. Like, the scent was very strong, intoxicating, and soothing, and it was drawing me so close that I couldn’t resist it. I couldn’t help but follow the scent away from my initial destination.
“Our mate is somewhere near,” Maya whimpered excitedly through the mind link.
Our mate? Wasn’t this too good to be true? As excited as I was, I was still having this feeling of uncertainty gnawing at me because of where the scent was leading me to.
I was already in front of Alpha's palace. Could it be that? I shrugged off the thought and kept going.
“Mate!” Maya shouted and started dancing around in my head.
I raised my head to see the person in front of me, and my heartbeat gradually increased from the usual. Impossible! I shook my head in disbelief or maybe disapproval.
Alpha Adolphus? My mate?
A part of me felt it wasn’t possible, but then, he hasn’t also gotten a mate, so it was possible the moon goddess paired us up, right?
“Otsana, you don’t have a wolf yet, and the Alpha can’t be your mate. Stop being dramatic!” My father's stern voice broke my chain of thought.
His eyes bored into mine. There were four eyes bored into only mine. Adolphus was also staring at me with this intense gaze.
I just stood still, not knowing what to say or waiting for Aldophus to confirm what I had said because he should feel it too.
“Whitlock,” Adolphus broke the silence. “She has her wolf. And she is saying the truth: we are fated.” Adolphus stated, taking slow and calculated steps towards me.
As he moved closer, his presence was making me feel anxious, and it somehow felt like I should jump over him and kiss him, but I couldn’t. I was afraid. He was the Alpha, but also my mate.
An indecipherable expression appeared on his face.
“She is my mate,” he mouthed the words slowly, tracing his hands on my face, and doing that pumped my adrenaline, and my nervousness meter racked up the scale.
I could feel some sensation in between my panties. something I hadn't felt in the years that I have known Adolphus.
His touch sent a jolt of electricity through me, making my skin tingle. I think that was as a result of the mate bond because I haven’t felt like this ever since he has been touching me.
I couldn’t tell why I was afraid because I shouldn't be. It was Alpha Adolphus. He has been here with me when I had no wolf, and I’m sure he wouldn’t desert me now that I have a wolf.
“But…,” he paused and took the same slow and calculated steps backward. The indecipherable expression he wore earlier was now replaced with that familiar pity face he used to give me when I hadn’t gotten my wolf.
But? There shouldn’t be any but in this, right? Why did he step back?
His jaw clenched tightly.
“I will reject her.” Chillness pebbled my skin. It was like a bucket of cold water was emptied on me from head to toe, drenching me.
“I can’t accept her as my mate...”
