Chapter 4 He's My Boss

600 Words
Yna loved her job. Every day was different. She talked to customers, helped the staff, and made sure everything in FreshMart ran smoothly. She was happy. Busy, but happy. Until one day, her phone rang. "Yna Stewart?" "This is HR. Ms. Heidi. Mr. Reyes wants to see you in the main office. Now." Yna's heart skipped. The boss? She fixed herself quickly and headed to the company headquarters. Along the way, she felt someone watching her. A man. He was following her from a distance. Yna pretended not to notice and walked faster until she reached the building. Outside, the man stayed behind. Waiting. --- At the same time, in the CEO's office. Daniel was going through employee files. Then one name caught his attention. Y...n...a? Yna? The name was familiar. The store managers always updated him about her. "She's diligent." "Customers love her." "She handles problems well." That was why he decided to promote her to a higher position. She deserved it. --- "Good morning, Ma'am," Yna greeted the HR officer. "Come in, Yna. Boss Daniel has been waiting for you," Ms. Heidi smiled. "Thank you, Ma'am." With nervous hands and a racing heart, Yna opened the door. Head down. "Good morning, Sir Dan—" She looked up. And stopped breathing. Daniel. Daniel Reyes. The man from the grocery. The man from the street. Her boss. The room went silent. Cold. Still. Then both of them said it at the same time. "YOU?!" Yna quickly composed herself. "Ah— I mean, Good morning, Sir. I'm Marina Stewart. You can call me Yna Stewart. Cashier at FreshMart. You called for me?" Daniel couldn't look away. She was tall. Morena. Beautiful. She looked like she was raised with love. "Sit down," Daniel said. "So you're Yna Stewart." He remembered that name now. From the day he bumped into a girl on his way to the office. He never expected to see her again. Especially not like this. "Ms. Yna Stewart," Daniel continued. "I called you here because I have an important announcement. You're being promoted. You won't be a cashier anymore. Starting today, you'll be my Personal Secretary." Yna stared at him, shocked. "R-really, Sir? Is that true?" "Yes," Daniel nodded. "Because of your excellent performance over the years. You work hard and you work well. You deserve this. You can start tomorrow." Yna stood up quickly to thank him and— "Ahhh!" She stumbled. Daniel caught her immediately. His arms wrapped tightly around her waist, pulling her close until their faces were almost touching. Almost. Slow motion. The sound of their hearts: Dugdugdugdug. They stared at each other. Daniel's thoughts: `Her eyes are sparkling. That's why my heart beats so fast whenever I see her. Since the first time in my store. Since that day on the street when she was coming from the market. She hasn't changed. She's even more beautiful. If only she knew... I think I love her already.` Yna's thoughts: `His lips. His handsome face. It's what made me like him. I know he has a good heart. I wish I could be his girlfriend... But how? How would someone like him like someone simple like me? But it's not wrong to admire him, right? I think... I think I love him.` They pulled away, both red-faced. "Th-thank you, Sir," Yna bowed. "I'll do my best!" She ran out before she could embarrass herself further. Outside, the man was still waiting. --- Neither Daniel nor Yna knew it yet. Their parents had already made a deal. An engagement. Between them. And they had no idea.
