May came and went, and with it Michigan’s short spring. The cherry trees blossomed, the tulips bloomed, and as June began, the tourists began to descend on the shore communities by the massive sand dunes that spread along Lake Michigan’s eastern shore. Dominic greeted each day at least knowing he wouldn’t be out in the freezing cold. Or wading into any cold ponds. It was the last week in June when his boss called him into his office. Dominic couldn’t imagine what for, as his boss had never called him into the office for anything. And there was someone else in the office with him. Dominic knew he had seen him somewhere before but couldn’t place him. “This is Howard Jones. He owns the house next to the pond where you rescued the kid out of the car back in April.” Now Dominic remembered him
