Warrick's POV Everything hurt. That was the first thing I noticed when I started waking up. My entire body ached like I'd been trampled. My throat felt raw. Every muscle screamed. I groaned before I could stop myself. "Warrick." My mother's voice, close. "Can you hear me?" I forced my eyes open. The light hurt but I pushed through it. My mother sat beside the bed, holding my hand. She looked exhausted, her hair loose instead of neat like usual, dark shadows under her eyes. "Mother?" My voice came out rough and broken. "What happened?" She looked relieved. "You're awake. Thank the Moon Goddess." I tried to sit up but my body wouldn't cooperate. "Why do I feel like I fought an army?" Her face changed, the relief disappearing and replaced by something heavier. Sadness and maybe guilt
