Alpha Aaron lay unconscious for three full days.
When he awoke, he saw only Serena by his bedside, weeping inconsolably.
"Aaron!" Serena rushed into his arms the moment she saw him awake.
Alpha Aaron's gaze was vacant, his eyes hollow.
It all felt like a nightmare from which he could not awaken.
"Where is Evelyn? Have you found her?" he croaked, his voice raspy as if sandpaper had ground each word.
Serena fell silent.
Only when she met Alpha Aaron’s anxious gaze did she slowly shake her head.
"No. Not even a body. Two brothers tumbled over the cliff. We managed to rescue them, but... well, no one... no one wanted to go back."
Alpha Aaron's impatience flared, and he struggled to rise.
"No, you can't! Evelyn, how could you leave me behind? I won't accept this!"
