CHAPTER XII. - THE CAUSE OF A FRIEND.Mark was doing a desperate lot of thinking during that brief walk down to the headquartersbuilding. Every one he passed turned to stare at him, but he did not notice that. He knew that in a very short while now the critical moment was coming. Texas could not speak for himself; Mark must tell his story for him, and save him from disgrace and dismissal if the thing could possibly be done.
