Kelly Greg cut the truck’s engine just before the border between Nightstalker and Blackfur territory, out of sight of the safe house, and rolled to a stop, the dry dirt and rocks crunching under the tires. Rolling her window down, she waited for the jeep to come to a stop next to them so they could discuss what their next step was while listening to the sounds of the night. Somewhere in the distance, a wolf howled, sending shivers down her spine. Given that it was the full moon, though, hearing howls wasn’t uncommon, she reminded herself. Growing up, it had been so loud here that she hadn’t been able to sleep, which is why she had started going to her cabin. Now, the crickets were louder than the howls.
