Aia woke up feeling anxious. Her mind was still buzzing with questions about Zack and his behavior the night before. She knew she needed to talk to him and find out what was really going on.
While having breakfast, she decided to wait for Zack to wake up. She wanted to make sure she could talk to him before the situation worsened. When she saw Zack getting up, she offered a smile, but behind it, sadness lurked.
"Good morning, Zack," Aia greeted him, her voice laced with hope.
"Morning," Zack replied, his voice tinged with fatigue. He immediately sat down at the table, but his worry was still evident.
"Um, Zack," Aia began, her heart pounding. "We need to talk about what happened yesterday. Why did you come home drunk?"
Zack shook his head, his eyes avoiding hers. "Nothing, Aia. I'm fine. Just thinking about things."
"What are you thinking about? If you have a problem, I'm here," Aia replied, her voice filled with concern. "You don't have to hide your feelings."
Zack saw the sincerity in Aia's eyes. "I just want to protect you, Aia. I saw you and Hawthorne hugging. It hurt," he said, his voice softening.
Aia was confused by this. "Zack, you shouldn't ignore your feelings. I don't know what's going on with me and Hawthorne. But you... you're my friend. You need to know I'm here for you."
"But Aia, don't you think it might be better if you avoided Hawthorne?" Zack asked. "There are things you don't know about him."
"I know, and I want to know everything," Aia replied, her voice growing firm. "I need to face my past. And because of that, I want to know what happened to me."
With those words, a silence fell between them. They both looked at each other, full of emotion and misunderstanding. Zack knew Aia's past was important to her, but despite that, he felt a sense of fear.
"Sorry, Aia," Zack said, his voice full of understanding. "I just want you to be safe. I can't bear to see you hurt."
"I understand, Zack," Aia replied, her heart filled with compassion. "But we need to face this together. We need to find answers."
As Aia and Zack were talking, the door suddenly opened and Hawthorne walked in. His face was full of determination, and he seemed to be carrying important information.
"Sorry for the sudden arrival," Hawthorne said. "I need to show you something."
Aia and Zack were surprised by his arrival, but they immediately became cautious. "What is it?" Aia asked, her heart warming with hope that they might have answers.
Hawthorne presented a thick ledger filled with notes. "This is from my grandfather. It has codes I don't understand, but there are familiar names. I believe it's connected to what happened in the past."
Zack became interested. "What are the names?"
Hawthorne opened the ledger and began to read. "Here are some names..." As he read, Aia noticed something that seemed to trigger a strange feeling in her. "One name really caught my attention: Carmen Alonzo."
When Aia heard the name, a memory seemed to surface in her mind, but it wasn't fully clear yet. "Carmen Alonzo... who is she?" she asked, her voice becoming lighter.
"She was a friend of your grandmother," Hawthorne replied. "I know she was important to your family, but it's been many years since she was last seen."
"But why is she in the ledger?" Zack asked, confused.
"There are codes here that possibly connect people and family transactions," Hawthorne said. "We can study this more carefully. Maybe we'll find answers here."
A feeling of hope arose in Aia. "If Carmen is connected to all of this, maybe we can find information about what happened to me," she said, her voice filled with determination.
"Yes, and we need to find out what these codes are," Zack replied, his voice becoming more confident. "We need to work together."
As they talked, they decided to study the ledger more closely. Each page was filled with names and codes, and as they went through it, they gradually realized that they were connected to people surrounding their past.
After their conversation, the three agreed to divide the tasks to uncover the secrets in the ledger more quickly.
"Zack, you investigate Carmen Alonzo. See if you can find any information about her," Aia said. "Hawthorne, you go back to your place to study old documents and information that might help us."
"And I'll study the codes in the ledger," Aia added. "Maybe I can discover some patterns or clues."
They all agreed to their plan. When Hawthorne left, Aia and Zack were left alone in the house. "Do you want to come with me to look for Carmen?" Zack asked, his voice full of concern. "I know you won't be comfortable staying here alone."
But Aia decided to study alone for a while. "I'm okay, Zack. There are things I want to find out. Maybe I'll remember some things if I'm by myself."
"Are you sure, Aia?" Zack asked, worried.
"Yes, Zack. Be careful looking for Carmen," Aia replied, her voice laced with hope.
When Zack left, Aia was alone in the house. She began to study the codes in the ledger, but she couldn't shake the feeling that something bad was going to happen. Her intuition told her there was danger lurking.
And she was right. The door suddenly opened. Aia stood up and saw the man they had seen at the bar. She didn't know how he got into Zack's house, but she strongly felt he had planned this all along.
"I know you're wondering how I got in here," the man said, his voice laced with mockery. "Shouldn't you be more careful? People aren't always who they seem."
"Who are you?" Aia asked, her voice becoming firm. "What do you want?"
"I want to help you," the man replied, his smile turning dangerous. "I want to help you find the answers you're looking for. But you need to trust me."
Aia didn't meet the man's gaze. Her heart was pounding. "Why should I trust you? I don't know you," she replied, her voice steady despite her confusion.
"I know there are people around you who are trying to hurt you," the man replied, his tone becoming serious. "And I also know you have answers you need to know. But you can't achieve them alone."
"When will you help me?" Aia asked, her eyes fixed on the man. "Why now?"
"You're in danger, Aia. And you need to know the truth about your past and the people who hurt you," the man replied. "But it won't be easy. You need to be prepared."
"What do you mean?" she asked, still unsure of what she was hearing. "Why are you interested in me?"
"I have a reason," the man replied, his tone laced with mystery. "And I'll tell you everything if you work with me. We need to find answers in the ledger and your past."
But before Aia could speak, she suddenly felt a sense of danger. Her intuition was warning her. "No, I don't want to get involved with you. Leave!" she shouted, her voice filled with fear.
But the man seemed unfazed. "Aia, don't be angry. You need to listen to me. I promise, I can help," he said as he slowly approached.
Aia thought quickly. "I need to call Zack," she whispered to herself. "If anything happens to me, he needs to know."
In a swift movement, Aia ran towards the phone. But before she could grab it, the man grabbed her arm. "Don't worry. I won't hurt you," he said, but his voice seemed laced with malice.
"Get out!" Aia shouted, her voice filled with fear. "If you don't, I'll call the police!"
The man felt the tension in her voice and seemed to think. "Okay, Aia. If you don't want to cooperate, I'll leave you be. But remember, there are people watching you. Don't be so sure."
