CHAPTER 3: THE JOURNEY TO ENLIGHTENMENT

Aia stood in front of the mirror, scrutinizing her reflection. The scars and bruises on her body were proof of the battles she had endured, but her mind was filled with determination. She knew she had to confront Hawthorne. Not just for herself, but for her family and the secrets that shrouded their past. "Zack, when should we start our plan?" Aia asked as she packed her things. "It's best to start now. We need to make sure we're ready for anything," Zack replied. "I have some people I can talk to who might be able to help us. A contact of mine has information about a gala happening at Hawthorne's family home. It's a good opportunity to gather evidence." "These kinds of events are nerve-wracking, but we have to adapt," Aia said, her voice filled with courage. "I'll meet Hawthorne before the gala. I need to tell him about his family." As they planned, Zack offered some tips: "Be careful about what you say. The people around him might be listening. But don't forget that the truth is on your side." They decided to rest for a bit and get ready to meet Hawthorne. In her heart, Aia hoped she could salvage their relationship, but she knew it wouldn't be easy. When Aia arrived at Hawthorne's house, she hesitated for a moment before opening the door. As she entered, she saw Hawthorne packing his things. His eyes lit up when he saw her, but there was hesitation in them too. "Aia, what are you doing here?" Hawthorne asked, his voice a mix of surprise and concern. "We need to talk about your family," Aia replied, her voice steady. "There are things you need to know." With those words, the tension between them eased. Hawthorne welcomed her in, and they decided to sit down. "What do you mean?" Hawthorne asked, his tone turning serious. "It's about your grandfather and what happened to my grandmother. I discovered information that connects you, and you need to know the truth," Aia replied, her voice filled with emotion. But before she could continue, Hawthorne hesitated. "Aia, I know this is difficult, but you're missing information. People often get things wrong about the past." "But this is the truth, Hawthorne," Aia said, her eyes filled with tears. "You need to know about his character and the mistakes of his family. This isn't just a story; it's a part of who you are." There was a moment of silence. The words Aia had spoken emphasized a truth that was hard to accept. But despite everything, Aia knew she had to fight for the truth. Despite their conversation, Hawthorne still didn't know how to accept it. "I need to think about this, Aia," he replied, his voice filled with hesitation. As they talked, Zack decided to step outside to give them space. Outside, he thought about the next step in their plan. They needed to get information from the gala happening at Hawthorne's family home. After the intense conversation between Aia and Hawthorne, an unexpected event occurred. Instead of getting angry or hiding, Hawthorne made an unexpected decision. He called Aia the next day. "Aia," Hawthorne began on the phone, his voice seeming serious and determined. "I need to apologize for what I said yesterday. You were right. I know the truth about my grandfather and what happened to your grandmother. I just don't know how to accept it." Aia was surprised by what she heard. "Hawthorne, is this true? Are you ready to face the truth?" "Yes," Hawthorne replied. "And I want your help and Zack's help. There's a gala happening at our house later. I want to invite you both. I've promised to help uncover the truth that day." Aia couldn't believe what she heard. Her ex-boyfriend, the man she thought was on the other side, was willing to cooperate. But there was still hesitation in her heart. How could she be sure Hawthorne wasn't lying? "Hawthorne, how can I be sure you're not lying?" Aia asked. "Aia, I know it's hard to believe, but I'm willing to prove what I'm saying. At the gala, you'll see the truth. I'll help you in your search," Hawthorne replied. "I need to know the truth too, for myself, for my family." After the call, Aia immediately called Zack. She told him everything. Zack was worried, but they decided to accept Hawthorne's invitation. It was a risky move, but it was also a chance to get the truth. When the day of the gala arrived, she and Zack got ready. They were both nervous, but also determined to face whatever might happen. When they arrived at Hawthorne's house, they saw a large gathering of people. The atmosphere seemed joyful and orderly, but they knew there were secrets hidden beneath it all. Hawthorne was waiting for them. "Aia, Zack," he greeted them. "Thanks for coming. I know this isn't easy, but I hope I can help you." Throughout the gala, Aia and Zack observed the guests' actions and conversations. They were cautious, paying attention to every detail. Soon, they gathered some important information, clues that might lead them to the truth. Hawthorne remained true to his word, helping them uncover the secrets. As Aia and Zack walked around the gala, they gradually noticed hints connecting Hawthorne's family to what happened to her grandmother. In a corner, Zack caught the attention of an old man who seemed to be talking about memories of the past. "You know, not everyone in the Hawthorne family is bad," the old man said to his companion. "But the secrets have weighed heavily on us over the years." "We still have documents that connect the family's transactions. If we could only get those, we might know the truth," the old man's companion replied. Hearing this, Aia and Zack decided to approach them. "Excuse me," Zack said, "what were you saying about the documents?" But before they could introduce themselves, the old man's tone changed. "Whoever you are, it's best if you don't get involved. The past has reasons for staying hidden." The old man quickly left, but in his frustration, Aia immediately thought. "Zack, we need to get those documents. That's the key to the truth." As they continued to observe, Aia noticed Hawthorne talking to a group of people. She saw a document attached to the back of a picture—an old family photo that seemed to have names of people connected to their past. "Zack, look at that!" Aia said, pointing to the picture. "It looks like we have some information here." When Aia got the picture, she couldn't take her eyes off it. The names written on the back were people mentioned in her grandmother's diary. Her heart beat faster; this was a crucial piece of evidence. "After we get the information, we need to leave," Zack said. "Someone else might find out what we're doing." After the gala, Aia and Zack went home, full of new information and clues. But when she got home, she couldn't sleep. Memories of the past came back to her mind, and as she drifted off to sleep, she began to dream. In her dream, Aia saw herself in a dark room. Five men stood around her, their eyes filled with malice. With each passing moment, she felt herself struggling, being passed around by people she didn't know. Screams and resentment seemed to engulf her mind. "What do you want from me?" she asked, her voice filled with fear. But no one answered. The men seemed to be talking, but their voices became mere shadows in her mind. Again, Aia felt the pain of the past. The feeling of shame and abuse returned to her. In her dreams, she fought against the seemingly endless memories—the times she was ignored, the times she was hurt. Despite everything, Aia woke up with tears in her eyes. Those dreams gave her the strength to fight for her family and the truth. She knew she wasn't alone, and the memories of her past should be a reason to fight. Aia woke up trembling and crying. The nightmare about the five men seemed etched into her mind. She didn't know who they were, but the pain and fear she felt were real. She felt Zack approaching her bed. "Aia," he whispered, his voice filled with concern. "Are you okay? You don't look well." Aia saw the worry in Zack's eyes. She couldn't hold back her tears. "Zack," she sobbed, "I had a dream... a nightmare. Five men... They took advantage of me... back then..." Zack was shocked by what he heard. He didn't know about Aia's past. His heart filled with pity and anger. "Aia," he whispered, "were you... were you a victim of r**e?" Aia nodded, her tears continuing to flow. "Yes," she whispered. "I don't know who they are. But I want revenge. I want to find them and punish them." Zack hugged Aia tightly. "Shh," he whispered. "Stop crying. I'm here with you. I won't let you down. I'll help you." Aia found a little comfort in Zack's embrace. For the first time, she felt the support and love she needed. "Thank you, Zack," she whispered. "Thank you for understanding." "Aia," Zack said, stroking her hair. "What happened to you wasn't your fault. Don't blame yourself. Those people are the ones to blame. And I'll do everything to help us find them." "But how?" Aia asked, her voice weak. "I have no idea who they are." "Don't worry," Zack replied. "I'll help you. We'll study the information we gathered at the gala. Maybe we'll find clues that will help us track them down." With those words, Aia began to feel a glimmer of hope. She knew the path to justice would be long and difficult, but she wasn't alone anymore. She had Zack, her friend, who was willing to stand by her side on her journey.
