Melia’s Point of View
He stares at me like he is not sure if he heard me right, his lips parting slightly as he lets the words sink i . Then, slowly, that serious expression breaks into a grin so wide I can’t help but laugh a little at his expression.
“Did you just say yes? Are we actually getting married?”
He asks, almost in disbelief.
I nod my head, still half surprised myself.
“Yeah, it might be crazy, but I think we should do this.”
I say.
“Lia, this is the best kind of crazy.”
He says, still grinning widely at me. I laugh again, shaking my head.
“You say that now.”
He takes a step closer to me, his hands resting lightly on my shoulders.
“I mean it. I don’t care how fast or impulsive this feels. You said yes, and I am not letting you take it back.”
“I wasn’t planning to.”
I say softly, meeting his gaze.
“But… I don’t want some huge thing. No guests, no flowers, no drama. Just us.”
He blinks at me in surprise.
“Wait, no big wedding? That doesn’t sound like you. You used to talk about walking down an aisle in some massive gown, music playing, everyone watching.”
He says and I shrug.
“I know.”
I say, looking down for a moment. I sigh before looking up at him again.
“But nothing in my life right now is how I thought it would be. Everything’s different. Right now, I don’t need a fairytale, Alex. I just need something real.”
I say quietly. He tilts his head, a small frown in his face.
“So what are you saying exactly?”
“I am saying that we go to the courthouse. Tomorrow. Just us, two witnesses, and that’s it.”
I say firmly. He studies me for a long moment, like he is trying to see if this is really what I want.
“Tomorrow? Are you sure?”
He asks, raising a brow.
“Completely.”
He lets out a whistle and shakes his head, smiling at me.
“You don’t waste time, do you?”
He asks teasing and I shrug, a small smile on my face. “Well, apparently neither do you. You literally ordered a ring before sunrise.”
I say with and arched brow. He laughs, rubbing the back of his neck.
“Okay, fair point.”
We both stand there for a moment, the room quiet except for the sound of our breathing.
“You aren't going to wake up tomorrow, regret this and try to run from me again?”
“I already woke up once regretting something. I am not making that mistake again.”
He lets out a breath, smiling faintly at me.
“You know, when I said I wanted you to take responsibility, I didn’t actually think that you would say yes.”
“I guess I like surprising you.”
I say, grinning.
“Are you really sure about this, Lia?”
He asks again, his eyes searching my face and I nod.
“Yeah. I just know that if we don’t do this now, life will find a way to pull us apart.”
He studies me for another long second before nodding his head.
“Then I guess we should make it official.”
He says, taking out the ring and slips it onto my finger.
“This is really beautiful. But how did you just happen to have a ring ready?”
I ask, my fingers lightly tracing the leaf patterns and he smirks at me.
“Like you said, I ordered it earlier this morning, I wasn't planning on wasting any more time.”
I laugh, shaking my head.
“You are crazy.”
“And yet, you still said yes.”
“Yeah, I did...”
I say, shaking my head.
“Oh god help me, I did.”
I let out a laugh and he grins at me again. He takes my hand, running his thumb over my knuckles, staring at the ring.
“So, tomorrow then?”
He asks looking up at me.
“Yes, tomorrow.”
I say, nodding my head.
“Okay then. Tomorrow we will get married. I should probably call someone to be a witness...”
He says, a thoughtful expression crossing his face.
“Yes, we should, but who?”
I ask, going to sit on the bed. He follows me and sits down next to me.
“Maybe Jared? He already knows too much about my life as it is.”
He suggests and I laugh.
“Your poor assistant. Today you wake him up at dawn for a ring and now you want him to show up for a wedding?”
He chuckles and shrugs.
“He’ll live. He owes me. Who else?”
He asks. I frown, thinking about it for a few seconds.
“I can probably ask Kira from work. She won’t judge.... much.”
“Perfect.”
He says leaning back on his hands, looking satisfied.
“See? It’s already coming together.”
I roll my eyes.
“You make it sound like we are planning a lunch date, not getting married.”
He smirks.
“What can I say? I’m a man of action.”
I stare at the ring again before letting out a long sigh.
“I can’t believe we are actually doing this.”
He turns his head toward me.
“Do you want you back out?”
He asks with a frown. I look up at him again and shake my head.
“No, I don’t want to.”
He nods slowly, his eyes softening.
“Good.”
For a while, we just sit there in silence.
Finally, he breaks the silence with a small grin.
“You know what this means, right?”
He asks with raised brows.
“What?”
“You are finally going to be Mrs. Maddox.”
He teases lightly. I laugh, shaking my head.
“You really are full of surprises, but I think I like it.”
I say and he smiles at me.
He leans over, pressing a kiss to my forehead.
“I can't wait for tomorrow.”
He says softly. I close my eyes and nod my head, my heart beating fast but steady.
