Chapter 4

1210 Words
Melia’s Point of View I slowly blink open my eyes, my mind feels fuzzy, my body warm. For a second, I don’t move. I just stare up at the ceiling, feeling confused, the edges of sleep still clinging to me. Where am I? Then the familiarity of the room sinks in, the soft grey walls, the curtains, the faint hum of the ceiling fan. I am in my room... I let out a small breath of relief and close my eyes again, snuggling deeper into the warmth at my back. There is an arm draped over me, heavy and warm, and the steady heartbeat pressed against my spine makes me smile without thinking. I sink into it, into him, taking a deep breath of his scent, but something isn’t right… This isn’t Micheal’s scent. And then it hits me. The memories from last night slam into my head, the wedding, the way my world shattered, the drinks, Alex pulling me away, the soft light of my bedroom, his voice, his touch. My eyes snap open, and my heart begins to race in my chest. I sit up slowly, holding my breath. His arm slides off my waist and falls onto the bed and my eyes land on Alex’s face. Alex is lying here in my bed, his hair a mess, his face relaxed in a peaceful sleep. My pulse begins to hammer in my ears. “Oh God…Oh god, no... What the hell did I do?” I whisper to myself as I slide my legs out of bed, moving slowly and carefully, trying not to wake him up. I grab the clothes I can find on the floor and pull them on quickly and quietly with shaky hands. This wasn’t supposed to happen. I don’t even know what this means. I quietly make my way towards the door, holding my breath, praying he doesn’t wake up. I need to get out. I need to get some air, and think. Even if it is my house, I need some space before dealing with this... My hand slowly reach out, touching the doorknob. “Melia… what are you doing?” Alex’s voice comes from behind me and I freeze. His voice is soft, rough with sleep, but it hits me like a punch to the gut. I squeeze my eyes shut. No. This can’t be happening. “Melia?” He calls out to me again. I slowly turn around, my hands still on the knob. He is sitting on the edge of the bed now, the sheet pooled low around his hips, his hair a mess, his eyes on me. Completely unbothered about being completely naked. My eyes can’t help it, they rake over him. I swallow hard, my tongue licking my dry lips as I take him in. He sure is one fine specimen of a man… I think before I hear him clear his throat. My eyes immediately back up to his face, hoping he didn’t notice me checking him out, but the smug smirk on his lips tells me that he definitely saw. I clear my throat, giving him a small, tense smile. “Hi.” I say quietly. “Hi?” He repeats, arching a brow at me. “Seriously? Is that all I get? Just hi?” I shift on my feet, fidgeting with my fingers nervously. “Good morning.” I add quickly. “Good morning.” He repeats slowly, leaning back on his hands. “Where are you off to so early?” He asks, his eyes roaming over me. “I… uhm... I just…” I stumble over my words, I take a deep breath before continuing. “I have a thing to do.” I say. He tilts his head slightly. “A thing?” He asks and I quickly nod my head. “Yes. A thing.” He slowly gets to his feet, making his way towards me without even bothering to grab a sheet. My heart begins pounding so loudly that I am sure he can hear it. “Oh my God…” I mumble under my breath as my eyes lock onto his c**k. “You were planning to slip out on me, weren’t you?” He asks, his voice is calm, but there is something sharp in it. My gaze snaps back up to his face and I shake my head. “What? No! No, of course not.” I say quickly, still shaking my head. “Don’t lie to me, Melia. You were going to slip out and just leave me here.” I take a small step back. “No, I just needed some air. That’s all.” He lets out a short laugh, but there is no humor in it. “Some air. Right...” He says, shaking his head. “You were going to disappear like last night meant nothing.” I swallow hard, shaking my head. “No, it is not like that. I didn’t want to wake you. I just…” “I can’t believe this.” He cuts me off, running a hand through his hair. “After what happened last night…” He looks back up at me. “Are you seriously not going to take any responsibility?” He asks and I frown at him. “Responsibility? What are you even talking about?” I ask, but he stares at me like I am the crazy one. “You took my virginity last night, Melia. You can’t just walk away from me now.” He says firmly. I blink at him, stunned. “Wait, what?” I ask and he arches a brow at me. “You heard me, Melia.” My mouth opens, but nothing comes out. I close it and try again. “Alex, that’s…” He shakes his head, cutting me off before he turns and walks over to his jacket tossed over the chair. “What are you doing?” I ask him but he doesn’t answer me. He just digs into the pocket and pulls something out. A small box. My stomach drops. “Alex…” He walks toward me, with the box in his hand. “Alex, what is that?” I ask, my voice slightly trembling. Still, he doesn’t answer me, he just flips it open, and the ring inside catches the light. My breath hitches as I stare down at the most beautiful ring that I have ever seen. “Alex, what the hell are you doing?” I ask. He doesn’t flinch as he stares at me. “I told you. You can’t just walk away from this. You have to take responsibility.” I stare at him, frozen in place with disbelief. “Are you being serious right now?” I ask, my voice filled with disbelief. He nods his head before taking another step closer to me. “Oh, I am dead serious about this, Melia.” “Oh my god, Alex... This is completely insane.” I say, shaking my head, and he shrugs at me. “Maybe, but last night happened. And I’m not letting you pretend that it didn’t.” “Alex…” He cuts me off. “You have to marry me, Lia.”
