Chapter 11 – The Devil’s Offer
The forest clearing had turned into chaos.
Branches snapped under hurried footsteps, the sound of bodies hitting the ground echoed through the trees, and the air was thick with tension and adrenaline.
Amara’s chest heaved as she tried to keep up with everything happening at once.
Daniel moved like a storm beside her—fast, precise, relentless.
But even with his skill—
They were being overwhelmed.
“Daniel!” she shouted as another man lunged toward him.
“I’m fine!” he shot back, blocking the attack and striking back with calculated force.
But Amara could see it.
Even he was starting to get pushed back.
There were too many of them.
And Sebastian—
Sebastian still hadn’t moved.
He stood at the edge of the clearing, watching everything unfold like it was nothing more than entertainment.
Like a man observing a transaction already decided.
Amara’s stomach twisted.
This wasn’t just about taking her back.
This was control.
Power.
Ownership.
“Stop!” she suddenly shouted.
Her voice cut through the chaos.
Sharp.
Desperate.
Everything froze.
Even the men.
Even Daniel.
Sebastian tilted his head slightly, intrigued.
“Well,” he said, stepping forward slowly. “That’s new.”
Amara stepped out from behind Daniel.
“Don’t,” Daniel warned under his breath.
But she didn’t stop.
Not this time.
“I’ll go with you,” she said.
The words hit like a shockwave.
Daniel’s head snapped toward her.
“What are you doing?!” he whispered harshly.
Amara didn’t look at him.
Couldn’t.
Because if she did—
She might break.
“They’ll kill you,” she said softly.
“I can handle myself,” Daniel replied.
“Not like this,” she shot back. “Not against all of them.”
Sebastian smiled faintly.
“Smart girl,” he murmured.
Amara’s fists clenched.
“I’m not doing this for you.”
“No,” Sebastian agreed. “You’re doing it because you finally understand.”
Her chest tightened.
Understand?
No.
She didn’t understand him.
But she understood one thing—
She couldn’t let Daniel die because of her.
“I’ll come quietly,” she said. “But you let him go.”
Daniel grabbed her arm.
“Amara, no.”
She finally looked at him.
And in that moment—
Everything slowed.
Fear.
Anger.
Trust.
Something deeper.
“You said we fight smarter,” she whispered.
“This is not fighting,” he said.
“Yes, it is,” she replied. “It’s choosing when to stop.”
His jaw tightened.
“You don’t know what they’ll do to you.”
She swallowed hard.
“I think I do.”
Silence stretched between them.
Painful.
Heavy.
Then—
Sebastian clapped his hands once.
“Touching,” he said. “Really.”
Amara’s gaze snapped back to him.
“You have your answer,” she said coldly.
Sebastian studied her for a moment.
Then—
He nodded.
“Alright.”
Daniel tensed.
Too easy.
Way too easy.
“Release him,” Amara said.
Sebastian smirked.
“Oh, I intend to.”
Relief flickered in Amara’s chest—
Until—
“After all,” Sebastian continued, his voice smooth, “he’s far more useful alive.”
Everything stopped.
Amara’s breath caught.
“What…?”
Daniel’s eyes narrowed.
He understood.
Before she did.
“You planned this,” Daniel said quietly.
Sebastian’s smile widened.
“Of course I did.”
Amara’s heart pounded violently.
“What are you talking about?”
Sebastian took another step closer.
His gaze never leaving hers.
“You think this was about chasing you?” he said softly.
“It wasn’t.”
Her chest tightened.
“Then what—”
“It was about drawing him out.”
Silence.
Dead.
Heavy.
Amara slowly turned to Daniel.
“No…” she whispered.
But the look on his face—
Confirmed everything.
“You knew,” she said.
Daniel didn’t answer.
“Daniel…” her voice cracked. “Tell me you didn’t know.”
“I suspected,” he admitted.
The words felt like a knife to her chest.
“You used me,” she said.
“No,” he said quickly. “That’s not—”
“You brought me here knowing they’d follow!”
“I brought you here to keep you alive!”
“And now look where we are!” she shouted.
Her voice trembled.
Not just from fear.
But from something worse.
Betrayal.
Sebastian watched the exchange with quiet amusement.
“Ah,” he said softly. “There it is.”
Amara’s hands shook.
“You’re both the same,” she said bitterly.
Daniel’s expression hardened.
“We’re not.”
“Aren’t you?” she shot back. “Both of you making decisions for me?”
“That’s not fair.”
“Neither is this!”
She stepped away from him.
Distance.
Space.
Something she suddenly needed.
Desperately.
Sebastian exhaled, clearly enjoying the tension.
“Now that we’re all being honest,” he said, “let’s stop pretending this was ever her choice.”
Amara glared at him.
“I chose to leave.”
Sebastian smiled.
“And yet,” he said, gesturing around them, “here you are.”
Her chest tightened.
“I’m not yours.”
His eyes darkened slightly.
“You will be.”
Daniel stepped forward again.
“That’s not happening.”
Sebastian sighed.
“You’re starting to annoy me.”
He raised his hand slightly.
The men around them shifted.
Ready.
Waiting.
“Enough games,” Sebastian said. “Take her.”
Amara’s heart slammed against her ribs.
This was it.
This was the moment.
Run?
Fight?
Surrender?
Her mind raced—
Until—
A sound cut through the tension.
A single gunshot.
Sharp.
Loud.
Unexpected.
Everyone froze.
Sebastian’s expression flickered—
For the first time.
Surprise.
A man from his side dropped to the ground.
Silence followed.
Heavy.
Confused.
Then—
A voice.
From the shadows.
“You always did love making things complicated.”
Amara’s breath caught.
That voice—
She knew that voice.
But it couldn’t be.
No.
It wasn’t possible.
A figure stepped into the clearing.
Calm.
Collected.
Dangerous.
And when the light hit his face—
Amara’s world shattered.
“...Elias?” she whispered.
Her older brother.
The one who had been—
Gone.
Missing.
Declared “out of the picture” years ago.
Standing right in front of her.
Alive.
Sebastian’s smile faded completely.
“Well,” he said quietly. “This just got interesting.”
Daniel’s eyes narrowed.
“You weren’t supposed to be here,” he said.
Elias smirked faintly.
“Yeah,” he replied. “I get that a lot.”
Amara’s heart raced uncontrollably.
“You’re… alive,” she said, her voice barely holding together.
Elias looked at her.
And for a brief moment—
Something softened in his expression.
“Hey, kid,” he said.
Tears filled her eyes.
Everything she thought she knew—
Everything she believed—
Was falling apart.
Again.
“Get behind me,” Elias said calmly.
Amara didn’t move.
She couldn’t.
Her mind was still catching up.
Sebastian let out a slow breath.
“You really want to do this?” he asked.
Elias tilted his head slightly.
“You already know the answer.”
The tension snapped back into place.
Stronger.
Sharper.
More dangerous than before.
Because now—
This wasn’t just a chase.
This wasn’t just about Amara.
This was something bigger.
Something deeper.
A war between people who knew each other too well.
And Amara—
Was standing right in the middle of it.
