Chapter 10: Forgiveness Is For Me
It’s been 18 months since the book came out.
18 months since Tarkwa Bay at 2:47 AM.
18 months since "one night" turned into "eight months".
Life is different now.
The book is in bookstores in 4 countries.
Stary Spa gets messages every day.
"Thank you for writing this."
"You saved me."
"I chose me because of you."
Tunde and I are still taking it slow.
He makes me laugh. He remembers my coffee order.
He’s never made me question my worth.
Not once.
But last week something happened that I didn’t expect.
A letter came to my publisher.
Handwritten.
No return address.
Just my name on the front.
Inside, it said:
---
Dear Jimmy,
I don’t expect you to read this.
And I definitely don’t expect forgiveness.
I’ve watched from far.
The book. The tour. The way you’re glowing.
I’m proud of you. And I’m ashamed of me.
I lied to you.
To her.
To myself.
I told myself it was "one mistake" because "eight months" sounded worse.
But the truth is, I was a coward.
I wanted to keep both of you because I was scared of being alone.
You deserved better.
You deserved honesty on day 1.
You deserved someone who chose you out loud.
I wasn’t that person then.
I’m in therapy now.
I’m trying to be better. Not for you.
For the next person. So I don’t hurt them the way I hurt you.
I saw your comment under the book post.
"Closure is peace."
You were right.
I’m not asking to talk.
I’m not asking for anything
The apology letter he sent
To Jimmy,
I was wrong.
About the lies.
About the "one night".
About thinking I could keep you and her.
You were the best thing that happened to me
and I threw it away because I was scared.
I’m not asking you back.
I lost that right.
I’m just saying I’m sorry.
And thank you.
For showing me what love is supposed to look like
by walking away from what it wasn’t.
I hope you’re happy.
You deserve to be.
