CHAPTER TWO

WHAT I couldn't believe my eyes. Did Bethany have to go this far? The nurse, seeing the news, turned off the TV immediately, almost dropping the remote, but it was already too late. I had seen and heard everything. I thought last night held the worst pain of betrayal, and nothing could break my heart any further, but this shattered whatever was left of it. Could my day get any worse? Before I could complete the thought, a notification popped up on my screen. It was a post from my parents' account: "Congratulations on our beautiful daughter Bethany and her fiancé Collins Stones on their engagement. We are so proud of you!" The caption was followed by various heart emojis and an engagement ring. Underneath the caption was a picture of Bethany, smiling like she had just won the lottery, her arms wrapped around Collins. He stood there, smiling like a picture-perfect fiancé, as though he hadn’t broken my heart just 24 hours ago. I couldn’t take my eyes off the screen as my mind continuously played the words over and over: "Congratulations on our beautiful daughter’s engagement to Collins Stones." I shook my head in disbelief as the words echoed louder and louder in my head. This can’t be true. It can’t be. I didn’t know what was more heartbreaking—Collins leaving me for my sister, Bethany’s manipulative self, or my parents being in on it. It felt like the universe was mocking me. My whole body trembled, and I couldn’t breathe. Everything felt a lot more suffocating. “How could they do this to me? This can’t be real. It can’t be,” I whispered, clenching my chest and letting out a bitter laugh. I tried so hard to fight reality. “How could they?” I asked, my voice trembling, my emotions betraying me. “What did I do to deserve this?” The nurse came in, her expression full of concern. “Miss Willows, are you alright?” “I’m fine,” I snapped, my voice sharper than expected, but I didn’t care. “Miss Willows, you need to rest—” “That’s not your problem!” I said as I yanked the blanket off to get up. But my legs betrayed me, and I fell back onto the bed. The nurse rushed to my side to support me, and as she gave me a soft pat on the back, the tears I had been holding back finally burst out. “She took everything,” I said, my voice shaky, my nose running, and my eyes red and swollen from crying. “She took everything from me. EVERYTHING!” My voice cracked as I continued. “And they—my parents—they…” The words barely came out of my mouth, my face filled with pain. “They chose her. My parents, the ones who claimed to love me, betrayed me.” “Am I the problem?” I asked, sitting there, staring blankly at the wall, my mind racing. The nurse didn’t say anything. Her silence was more comforting than anything I had felt in the last 24 hours. I picked up my phone to call my parents, hoping for an explanation, but there was no answer. I continued drowning myself in my sorrow and misery. They will pay. All of them will pay for the pain they caused me. If not, my name isn’t Amelia Benedicta Willows, I thought as I wiped the tears from my eyes. The crying girl from an hour ago was soon replaced by someone who wanted nothing but revenge. My thoughts were cut short as the nurse finally spoke. “Miss Willows, I would like to check your blood pressure again to make sure your stress level isn’t too high, and I will also need you to rest in the meantime,” she said as she turned to leave. “Miss Nurse?” I called softly. “I’m sorry. Forgive my manners. I didn’t get your name.” “It’s fine, Miss Willows. It’s Grace. My name is Grace,” she said warmly. I let out a little smile before proceeding. “Miss Grace, I’m sorry I lashed out at you earlier. I was—” Before I could continue, she cut me off. “You don’t have to explain. Anyone in your shoes would do the same thing, or even worse. So I understand,” she said with a warm smile. I called her one more time as she turned to leave. “Miss Grace?” “Yes, Miss Willows?” “Thank you.” She gave a polite nod and smiled as she exited the room. Now it was just me, the empty room, and my thoughts. One thing was for sure: if I wanted them to pay, I needed to come up with something big, something that even the Willows and Stones feared. Or… someone. That was when the thought clicked: the Windsors. But there was only one problem—how do I get acquainted? They were the only ones who could give me the power I needed and the sweet taste of revenge I craved. And they were also something Bethany and my parents would want. Another idea clicked in my head: a marriage alliance. Something that would wipe Bethany’s smug smile off her face. I continued my research and found the only heir to the Windsor empire. His name was Jeremy Windsor. Bingo! That was my ticket to the jackpot. But there was one problem. The news didn’t have good reviews about him. Some called him the Grim Reaper—everything that came before him disappeared into thin air. Others described him as a tough businessman, comparing him to a living Ice King. I couldn’t blame them. Physically, he was tall and imposing, with broad shoulders, a strong jawline, and piercing blue eyes. But something about him seemed oddly familiar. I continued my research and found something interesting—he was Collins’ uncle. Then the memory clicked. He had been at my grandparents’ wedding anniversary six years ago, where he was introduced as Collins’ uncle. I remembered Collins saying his grand-aunt married a Windsor. Well, well, well. I might have a shot after all. Operation: Get My Knight in Shining Armour As i mop the floor with Bethany's face was a go. “Okay, honestly, I really need to come up with a name for this operation,” I said as a satisfied smile spread across my face. HERE IS THE REAL QUESTION WILL BETHANY BE HUMILIATED OR WILL I GET MY KNIGHT IN SHINING ARMOR FIND OUT IN CHAPTER 3
