The next day, nothing had changed and everything was the same. The eyes of the people felt like they were fixated on me, and somehow it felt suffocating. I was getting used to it but there are times that it is really becoming annoying.
Miko, on the hand, was waving at me catching my attention. He sure is like a grade schooler. I wish I had the same mindset as him, but how does he do things like this. I know that he had the same situation with me, but it’s not that severe to the point he loathes his father. Unlike me, at the house, it seems like nobody cares. All in their minds was retaining the business under our family name.
“Hey, what’s up?” Miko said.
“Nothing has changed. Everyday is still the same for me.” I sighed and we began walking to our room. We still have almost half an hour before the homeroom teacher arrives. We are used to getting early at school to avoid unwanted attention from the people around us. It was surprising that the other students were early as well. Do we have an event now?
“What time did you get home yesterday? You should have come with me so that we could have dropped you off at your place.” Miko said, fishing out his phone from his pocket.
“It was late when I arrived at home. Our driver got stuck in traffic congestion yesterday. You know what, I am planning to get a student driver’s license.” I said.
“Really!” Miko exclaimed. All the students looked at us like we were some weird people. I looked at everyone and they shifted their gazes away from us.
“There you go again, Miko. Over the top reactions. Yes, I am planning to get one, and a motorbike. I don’t want to cause trouble to our drivers like yesterday, so I want to learn.” I answered.
“That’s really bold of you, Ray. Do you think your family will allow you to do that?”
“Well, they don’t really care about me so what’s the point? I already have enough money that I saved from the allowances that father gave me, and it’s enough to buy me a motorbike or if not, I will settle for a scooter.” I answered.
“I think you are entering your rebellious phase now, Ray.” Miko said, laughing.
“Is it obvious? I am not planning to rebel or anything. I just wanted to learn, and it will benefit you too since you are going to get free rides from me.” I said, laughing with him.
We were so busy talking that there was a certain student who entered the room. All the gazes were fixated on her, like she was some sort of celebrity. I know that students here on this campus have good looking people as their idols, but i didn’t really care about it.
I suddenly felt the gazes towards us again, so I stopped. I looked around confused as to what was happening then I noticed that a girl was approaching us. Miko noticed and looked at the girl too, who was smiling at me as she approached us.
“Hi.” the girl waved at us. I can hear everyone in the classroom murmur and gossip when she does that. I can feel that they were surprised by what was happening. Miko cannot help but be surprised too. I waved my hand awkwardly.
“Ray, do you know her? How come and when?” Miko asked.
“I just happened to talk with her yesterday. Why is there something wrong?”
“Don’t you know who that girl is. That’s Pine Martinez. One of the famous girls here at our school and the daughter of the owner of Martinez Wines.” Miko exclaimed.
“Well, you know that I don’t care about trivial things like that and I am not really interested.” I said.
‘Dude, lower your voice. She might hear you.” Miko said.
“Is there anything that I can help you with?” I asked, looking at Pine who was still smiling at us.
“Uh, it’s nothing. I just wanted to return this to you.” She said, and pulled the handkerchief from her pocket. I can hear everyone gasp again from the room. Their reactions were over the top.
“You can keep that handkerchief. I will buy a new one.” I said.
“Oh, really? Are you sure about that? Thank you.” Pine said happily.
It was just a handkerchief, and why is her reaction like that. Miko too, he was looking at me weirdly like I did something wrong. I don’t want to be bothered, that's why I told her to keep it. The bell rang already and our homeroom teacher arrived. Finally, some peace.
Everything went smoothly from the first to second period. I really like this, no one bothers me. They were all focused at the lessons, unlike earlier. The bell rang and everyone was heading to the cafeteria to eat some snacks. I took out my water bottle and took a sip while looking at everyone going out.
“Ray!” Miko exclaimed.
There he goes again. I almost blew the water to his face.
“Why?” I asked.
“You won’t believe what happened. “
“What is it?”
Look at this. He held his phone and showed the message that circulated throughout the school. It was about me and the girl Pine. They were talking about us, and our relationship.
“Wow, I cannot believe it. You blew up on the school's gossip page. Everyone is talking about you and that girl named Pine. Are you really dating her?” Miko asked.
“What? Are you silly? Of course not, and it will be a waste of time.” I answered.
“But there was evidence.” He showed me his phone again and on the screen was a photo of me and Pine, shaking hands yesterday.
“Silly. Just because of that picture, I am dating already? She just introduced herself to me the other day. There was nothing to it. Why is everyone adding fuel to the fire?”
“That’s because Pine is famous in our school! So now, are you dating or were you set up in an arranged marriage?”
“Cut it out Miko or I will smack your head.” I sighed.
This really smells like trouble.
