CHAPTER NINE

LILITH’S POV:
I hadn’t heard them come in. There were about seven shirtless males and a very beautiful lady. They were all tall, huge, looking like they’d stepped out of a magazine ad…yup, typical werewolves and they were staring at me in surprise. Which was a perfect reaction that I would have too if I’d caught someone in my dinning, scuffling down the food I’d just prepared for myself like a hungry dog.
Back at the moonlight pack, I wasn’t allowed in the dinning except to set up the dishes and pick them up after their dinner was over. I wasn’t even allowed to eat from the same pot. Any leftovers I’d gotten, was pure luck.
Being caught in an act like this one would mean severe punishment such as being whipped, healed, whipped again and then sent to work in the fields with your injuries while being on a 7-days fast.
I’d seen it occur three times with omega wolves (The weakest wolve in the hierarchy after me.) it’d had been a nasty sight and it’d made me resolved to never fall into such punishment. I could just die since I had no wolf.
This wasn’t the moonlight pack, but that didn’t stop the fear that rose in me. I didn’t know where this was or what kind of rules they had. If what I’d done was enough to get me killed. The devil you knew was better than the devil you didn’t. How would they punish me?
While shaking with fear, I rise to my feet and try to move slowly away from them. So far, they hadn’t done anything or said anything to me since they came in. I could only watch their expressions go from surprise to shock as they sniffed the air. I knew they were taking in my scent. I guess the shock came from not sensing my wolf.
“s-she…” the girl began. She was Tall, had fiery red curls and emerald eyes. She was extremely beautiful, the kind of beauty that made it hard to look away.
She took two steps forward and my heart leapt into my lungs. I found it hard to breathe. This was it; they were gonna kill me.
At least I didn’t die hungry.
I thought the death I’d escaped earlier was back to get me, but what happened the next second had my eyes rounded with shock and me, flabbergasted.
The eight of them had knelt down with their head bowed.
I looked behind me but there was no one there. Surely, they weren’t bowing to me?
What’s happening? Was it some kind of ritual they carried out before killing the felons? Like one minute they’d be bowing and the next my head would be hanging from the stakes while the rest of me got burnt.
Somewhere nearby, a door is slammed and heavy footsteps can be heard. Then a huge figure appears at the doorway, his unusual red eyes fixed on me. “Everybody GET OUT!!!” he thunders in a voice that can raise the dead. And I see the huge men flinch too. Strangely, I’m not scared anymore, neither am I scared of his thunderous presence. More or less, there’s a little flutter in my belle. I feel safe for some reason and I want to run into his arm for protection.
I knew who he was. The giant that rescued me. The same one I had s*x with last night…
Against my will, memories from the night before floods my mind and I turn beet red with shame. I look away from him. Too shy for his intense looks. Why Is he looking at me like he wants to eat me? maybe I’ll let him… again?
“Alpha we didn’t mean to scare her” one of the guys say, his neck bared in submission.
Alpha? He’s the alpha?
Wheels were spinning in my mind as I stand there in greater shock. OMG! I slept with the alpha???
“But you did, now everyone LEAVE!” He says and this time I can feel his alpha authority.
They all leave quietly, one after the other. Except the girl, she kept staring at me, I didn’t know whether it was curiosity or amazement, but she had her eyes glued on me.
“RED!” I heard him growl in annoyance. My eyes move to him taking him full while he’s distracted. For some reason, I’m strangely attracted to him.
Everything about him pulls me in. From his huge form, to the scowl on his very handsome face. Like the guys from before, he’s shirtless and only on a pair of blue jeans that hug his thighs in a very attractive manner…maybe too attractive for my mental health. His long black hair is tied in a messy bun at the top of his head, some strands falling around his face making him more striking. I want to reach up to that bun and mess it up some more.
But I shouldn’t do that. Not when I was caught stealing his food and probably about to be punished for it. I should think of ways to get him to let me off but some part of me wants to see how he would punish me.
What is wrong with me?
“Red, now’s not the time, please leave.” I can see that he’s retraining himself from grabbing her and throwing her out of the room himself. Why wasn’t she scared of him like the others? She must be really brave to make her Alpha beg. He called her Red, what a pretty name that suits her and her fiery red curls.
Red rolls her eyes even though she had her back to him, something tells me he could tell since he lets out a frustrated breath. She smiles brightly at me, ignoring him and I’m struck by how beautiful she is.
“COLE!!!” The alpha yells again and the guy that had spoken earlier comes back into the room. He walks to the girl and lifts her into his arms despite her protests, dragging her out of the room but not before she yells at the alpha with the words: “Oh grow out of it, Cayenne!” and then smiles and waves at me. “See you later, LUNA!” she yells again as he finally drags her out.
Now it’s just me and HIM in the room. The butterflies are back but I’m too distracted by my thoughts to pay attention now.
She called me LUNA!!!
Then slowly, like a candle burning out, that one memory I never should have forgotten came back.
It was right when he’d driven me to the top of the cliff, right when we were both about to fall off. With glowing eyes, he’d spoken the words as his canine extended. “I, CAYENNE, alpha of the REDEMPTION pack, accept you, Lilith as my MATE, to love and care for, to respect and honor unto the end of my days.” Every spoken word was intense with power. And like a bee drunk on honey, I was clouded by such intensity.
“I, LILITH, accept you, Cayenne, Alpha of the redemption pack as my MATE, to love and care for, to respect and honor unto the end of my days.” I said the words that sealed my fate. The mating bond feasted on the vows we’d made and our fates were merged like we were, as ONE.
He sunk his canines into the hollow of my neck, claiming me, marking me as his. The pleasure that followed had us falling off that cliff, hard. I held unto him as he thrusted and pumped me full through the throes of o****m. A perfect finish.
Basking in the aftermath and driven by the heat to complete the mating process, I lean up and bite into the hollow of his neck, leaving my own mark on him, making him mine.
He was the Alpha and now I’ve become his Luna.
The mating heat was satisfied and the mating bond formed. I was drained and drifting off. Right before I lose consciousness for the second time that night, and with his face still buried in the hollow of my neck, I hear him whisper: “Thank you.”
Standing here now, fully conscious, confused and petrified, I think that maybe that last part didn’t happen and I’d only imagined it. I mean why would he thank me? I watch him size me up with his eyes. He face is blank unlike his furious look from earlier. But I see a hint of anger in his eyes as he stares at my bare feet.
“Why the f*ck is your feet bare?!” he growls angrily and I startle.
“I … I” I stammer as I move further away from him, confused by his words. why did it sound like he cared?
What did it matter that he cared? Last night was a mistake and he was going to reject me the moment he realized that I had no wolf. who would want a weak mate?
Why exactly did we mate? I’d already been rejected by my mate. I should spend the rest of my life lonely. I shouldn’t be able to bond with anyone else.
I’m lost in my thoughts, sad and scared at the rejection that was sure to follow, thinking about the pain and t*****e I would go through again, I didn’t realize he’d closed the distance between us. And in the next moment, I’m lifted into his arms.
